NEVER underestimate the mosin. There are better, faster, newer. It will still shoot you, through the wall you are using for cover. I have seen that quote in action. @NovaGirl8

@@matejlieskovsky9625 this is why i consider this hyperbole. To kill that many wolves you have to kill roughly 3 wolves per day or 24 wolves per week. That is systematic slaughter and no longer protecting one's domain because within a month you would have wiped out all wolf packs in your home's vicinity. And that is for one rifle hunting nearly non-stop to achieve that grisly feat. Of all the feats that rifle's owner can be proud of, this one is something they should be shameful for. That ending took out my enjoyment for this story.
@donanthebarbarian5177

@@NovaGirl8 to be fair you might be able to do that if you're job is bouncing around from colony to colony using ftl and hunting done of the wolves that are getting out of control after being introduced to the 4+ extra planets humans appear to have settled by now. That said I do think the timeframe would need to be longer than they stated. Unless they are only counting the time the weapon is loaded as time in service. After all of you count like that it's be closer to 1000 years since manufacture but only was in use for 200 years of it.

The fact that everyone else is so caught up on the fact that woman shot an alien power cell with a *Moist Nugget* kinda bothers me a bit. Cause this is a woman who used a two hundred year old rifle that went through all those things, probably in the dark at long range with no real night-vision (perhaps a scope? Though given it wasn't mentioned I'm thinking iron sights here) and maybe with some lights around (Then again given they were using laser-sights maybe not) with a rifle that was mass produced that they couldn't even get out *fast enough* to the point there was rumors that during one of said world wars that men were sent out with ammo rather than rifles to pick up ones that were on the ground via men dying... This woman, to me, able to shoot an alien's 'magizine' of their rifle, probably in the dark with that alien RUNNING, more than likely using either iron sights or an old scope with a two hundred year old rifle, is quite possibly the most terrifying thing I can think of in this universe. Ratjoskie is not a person I would cross at all, no sir.

1. The alien was not running in the story. He was surounded, and they had fired a shot at his feet to make him stop. 2. The Mosin is quite capable of having a modern optic added to it. The Mosin-Nagant, or at least it's early models, is already 130 years old, having entered service in 1892. It also did have a long production run, with many even being made after the Second World War. Assuming her's was made in time to serve in the first World War (as stated) which ended in 1918, it today would already be at least 104 years old. There are many war era rifles that still work just as well today as they did then, even through heavy civilian use after their military service lives. Even centuries out there may be masses of specimens that have been mummified in cosmoline only after light use or even straight from the factory. But it is not out of the question for a robust turn of the (20th) century rifle to continue working through two centuries of use.

No joke but for real, to this day hardcore war historians often argue about the ultimate human handheld weapon and without a doubt the AK47 makes it to the top of the list every time, I have heard stories of our boys finding them buried for long periods of time only to be picked up in the heat of the moment and they still fire, it's beautiful, a beautiful chaos which is not unlike our own fighting spirit.
