This song kicks all kinds of ass in any genre in any decade . Would stand up today ,still sounds fresh and so much energy. I was a bit too young for the Pie but managed to see Mr Marriott live in Buxton in the mid eighties when I was 15 . I hung around afterwards to chat to him and he showed me a few licks ( he was a killer guitarist as well , people don’t give him the respect he deserves) really top bloke and he was extremely humble with me , let me play his natural 335 as well . He could go toe to toe with any musician in the world then and now .
@cindyfalstrom7231 Жыл бұрын
That's a great story Grant. It lines up with what I have read in his biographies. Wife Jenny says Steve was always kind and encouraging to young musicians as he felt extremely grateful to have been given the opportunities he had. He was also known to give his guitars away to young musicians he met if they didn't have one. Both Jerry Shirley and Peter Frampton were mentored by Steve when they were teenagers as Steve recognized their talents and encouraged them.

I am 62. Remember humble pie from when I was about 13 years old? There were so many so-called supergroups going at the time.... I don't think the pie really got the attention they deserved ! Did anyone ever hear that Keith Richards thought that Steve Marriott would be a good addition to The rolling Stones ? So Keith brings Steve 2A Stones rehearsal. Mick Jagger heard Stevie's voice and was so intimidated , Mick said make sure to get that guy out of here ! Sad but true Stevie also died alone and broke. So The story goes.

A short time later I walked into my favirite watering hole and heatd this amazing voice on the jukebox. I thought for sure that this must be a new taste of the pie (or an old track i had simply never heard before). It was neither. It was my first taste of a band i &dnt heard yet. The Black Crowes. I dropped a few bucks in the box and played the whole album. Couldnt believe what i was hearing.The ibfluence was obvious in every track. Finally after a decade of hair metal, pop crap and "alternative rock" ....(if you dont like GOOD rock then heres the alternative) ...was a real rock band that sounded like they had jumped right out of 1973. Thank God. Rock wasnt dead yet.

@@paullevine1813 Checked out your stuff. Really love the first track. I think any guitarist here should check it out. RE Humble Pie: my introduction to them was through the Rockin The Fillmore LP, which a friend had purchased. A lot of the jams were a bit long for me at that time, except Rollin' Stone really caught my ears for its stripped down grit, as well as Stone Cold Fever and I Don't Need No Doctor, all of which re-introduced me to the vocal talents of Steve Marriott. Not being too hip to the who's who of the rock scene back then, I hadn't known he was in the Small Faces, who weren't really known here aside from Itchycoo Park. Their mod stuff never got exposure on radio, as you're probably aware. I've always thought Marriott was one of the pre-eminent blues shouters. And we all know -- Robert Plant agreed. :-) Peace.

I have much more but with so much stuff on YT ii haven't posted anything else. Now at 65 I'm still playing even though the damn virus has hit us hard , I hate to say it but I did get it & am finally on the mend. The band has no place to play as most all the clubs here in MD. have no live music just carry out dinners. Well i will admit for you to hear Rockin' The Fillmore for your intro into Humble Pie was like the first time i heard Rory Gallagher's first solo Live in Europe 72 LP. That was one hell of an ear opener so i know that feeling well. Other than Walk on Gilded Splinters & Rollin Stone, Humble Pie pretty much kept thing fairly short .LOL That was one hell of a band even after Pete left & Dave who was & still is one hell of a player joined. He went back to his original band Colosseum until drummer Jon Heisman passed away. Anyway not to ramble again i thank you for taking the time to give me a listen, I'm no pro but i started picking up guitar as a kid in 67 & by 69 i took lessons for 5 years. Been at it since. I'll leave you with this link just in case you have not seen this performance with Steve Marriott it's a must see deal . As the great man used to say Rock On !!!...
