@@brucefranklin6295 Jeez, don't exclude Jerry Shirley. Steve was hanging out at Jerry's mom's house, who pretty much became his surrogate mom while young Jerry was cranking those drums for the band. It was an amazing group, and the chemistry came together perfectly while it lasted. Read Shirley's book if you get a chance.

Say what you want but n my piddly opinion there was NEVER NEVER ANYONE in hard rock better than Steve Marriott. Period. No one & no band kicked that boogie more then Pie. The Stones wish they had this kind of raw passion to me. To me this is pure rock, There are many good ones but imo Marriott was the absolute true consummate rock musician/ performer.A diamond in the rough w/ few in this league.Zep & the Who aside I just can't think of any better., man I miss real rock .sigh

This song kicks all kinds of ass in any genre in any decade . Would stand up today ,still sounds fresh and so much energy. I was a bit too young for the Pie but managed to see Mr Marriott live in Buxton in the mid eighties when I was 15 . I hung around afterwards to chat to him and he showed me a few licks ( he was a killer guitarist as well , people don’t give him the respect he deserves) really top bloke and he was extremely humble with me , let me play his natural 335 as well . He could go toe to toe with any musician in the world then and now .

That's a great story Grant. It lines up with what I have read in his biographies. Wife Jenny says Steve was always kind and encouraging to young musicians as he felt extremely grateful to have been given the opportunities he had. He was also known to give his guitars away to young musicians he met if they didn't have one. Both Jerry Shirley and Peter Frampton were mentored by Steve when they were teenagers as Steve recognized their talents and encouraged them.

Not as short lived as the Small Faces, in fact versions of the band have existed right up to now however dubious some of them may seem - do you discount the 2nd version of the band with Clem? I am 62. Remember humble pie from when I was about 13 years old? There were so many so-called supergroups going at the time.... I don't think the pie really got the attention they deserved ! Did anyone ever hear that Keith Richards thought that Steve Marriott would be a good addition to The rolling Stones ? So Keith brings Steve 2A Stones rehearsal. Mick Jagger heard Stevie's voice and was so intimidated , Mick said make sure to get that guy out of here ! Sad but true Stevie also died alone and broke. So The story goes.

You’re right on all of them. There’s no comparison between Jagger (such a limited vocal range!) and Stevie. And Stevie died, broke, in a fire at his cottage, probably caused by his own cigarette. One of rock’s most tragic victims - terribly underrated.

Somewhere around 1990 i had heard Marriot and Frampton were talking about putting the Pie back togerher. Think it was on Rockline. A short time later I walked into my favirite watering hole and heatd this amazing voice on the jukebox. I thought for sure that this must be a new taste of the pie (or an old track i had simply never heard before). It was neither. It was my first taste of a band i &dnt heard yet. The Black Crowes. I dropped a few bucks in the box and played the whole album. Couldnt believe what i was hearing. The ibfluence was obvious in every track. Finally after a decade of hair metal, pop crap and "alternative rock" ....(if you dont like GOOD rock then heres the alternative) ...was a real rock band that sounded like they had jumped right out of 1973. Thank God. Rock wasnt dead yet.

@@chriscampbell9191 You got that right. I was lucky to have seen them twice ,once in 1970 & once in 71 when Peter was still with them. First show they opened for Black Sabbath & they were so wound up they played for 2 1/2 hours & Sabbath played for 45 minutes & split very pissed off. Second show they opened for of all bands King Crimson & again were on fire but it was such a big difference in bands they both did fine sets with no toes getting stepped on. On Black Sabbaths show Ozzy & the band did play a fine set but Humble Pie just bested them. I play guitar myself & if you would care to give a listen here's the links to two songs one i wrote & one is with the band i play in now. They are just audio tracks but if yo like them please feel free to leave a comment but leave them on my posts not back here. @@paullevine1813 Checked out your stuff. Really love the first track. I think any guitarist here should check it out. RE Humble Pie: my introduction to them was through the Rockin The Fillmore LP, which a friend had purchased. A lot of the jams were a bit long for me at that time, except Rollin' Stone really caught my ears for its stripped down grit, as well as Stone Cold Fever and I Don't Need No Doctor, all of which re-introduced me to the vocal talents of Steve Marriott. Not being too hip to the who's who of the rock scene back then, I hadn't known he was in the Small Faces, who weren't really known here aside from Itchycoo Park. Their mod stuff never got exposure on radio, as you're probably aware. I've always thought Marriott was one of the pre-eminent blues shouters. And we all know -- Robert Plant agreed. :-) Peace.

@@chriscampbell9191 Hey Chris, Thanks for the kind words & I'm glad you liked my playing, Hard to believe it was that long ago when we recorded it but it goes back to 73 -74 when i was still in school & they were jams that stuck & morphed into full songs. I have much more but with so much stuff on YT ii haven't posted anything else. Now at 65 I'm still playing even though the damn virus has hit us hard , I hate to say it but I did get it & am finally on the mend. The band has no place to play as most all the clubs here in MD. have no live music just carry out dinners. Well i will admit for you to hear Rockin' The Fillmore for your intro into Humble Pie was like the first time i heard Rory Gallagher's first solo Live in Europe 72 LP. That was one hell of an ear opener so i know that feeling well. Other than Walk on Gilded Splinters & Rollin Stone, Humble Pie pretty much kept thing fairly short .LOL That was one hell of a band even after Pete left & Dave who was & still is one hell of a player joined. He went back to his original band Colosseum until drummer Jon Heisman passed away. Anyway not to ramble again i thank you for taking the time to give me a listen, I'm no pro but i started picking up guitar as a kid in 67 & by 69 i took lessons for 5 years. Been at it since. I'll leave you with this link just in case you have not seen this performance with Steve Marriott it's a must see deal . As the great man used to say Rock On !!!... Hang on to your hat cause ole Steve burns this old Blues number up.. He wasn't just a great singer & performer he was a great guitar player as well .. Marriott left the Small Faces citing frustration at having to play commercial material in order to fit in with the pop groove the Small Faces had found themselves in and he left so he could play the stuff he wanted to. This was Peter's first evening concert of the summer tour and the lip of the stage was not taped yellow to demarcate stage from photo/security pit. Frampton comes out waving to crowd and dropped right off the stage. Pulled back up to stage, apologized and went right into the intro acoustic set. Rumor was he had slight bruised ribs and split britches to boot!

@@carlospereda9792 No it isn't - the Small Faces version of Whole Lotta/You Need/Love precedes Led Zep by ages, you need to do some research.

@@no1nestandsalone387 It's also worth noting that Led Zeppelin was being sued by Willy Dixon in the early '80s for plagiarism with respect to song 'Whole Lotta Love' among others. But they, Led Zeppelin that is, decided that 'discretion(Falstaff, Henry IV part 1)is the better part of valour,' decided to settled out of COURT.😂🤣😂
