In this video you will find the most common issues you could encounter when servicing a water pump. It was epic!

What a nightmare. I just changed my water pump in below zero temps outside and was nearly 3 days getting it out. Clutch fan bolt didn't want to break loose. Just flat out refused. No amount of banging, pipe wrenches, or open flame would get it to budge. The "specialty tool" was beyond worthless and bent on day 1. I loosened the pulley and had just enough space to get a 10mm in behind it to loosen the bolts holding the water pump in 1/8th a turn at a time. Took me a whole day to remove those long winded SOBs. After that I removed the fan bolts and alternator (was changing that anyways) and managed to twist and turn and squeeze the whole assembly out of the engine compartment with minor fin damage to the radiator. Still needed that pulley and fan blades so I took it and got it into the vice and w/ 2 pipe wrenches with 6 foot long cheater pipes and some very creative swearing I hung all my weight off the end and FINALLY a loud bang and the clutch fan bolt broke free. After that, everything went back together in about an hour. Figures....

That is crazy boss! I've dealt with some ridiculous parts to remove, but I reckon that takes the cake! Sure am glad ya got it sorted. I'd have probably hauled it off to the scrap yard lol!

There's some clips you can push and slide around so it comes out without removing the fan 1st

Great video. I m just about to replace the water pump too. What size wrenches did you use for the fan clutch bolts?
@joshuaanothereraseddad Жыл бұрын
I hope it goes well for you! I actually used a wrench from a kit from Advance Auto and a wrench from a kit from Harbor Freight. Not sure what the sizes were, but I do recall one bit was from a Ford tool kit.

Hey I’d like to get a kit like that but I’m definitely not buying from harbor freight any ideas?

Quite frankly I have the same question lol! I'd just hunt them on Ebay or Amazon and find the kit that has the most components. That's probably your best option. If you come across a decent one please let me know!

What are the tools you used

The only specialty tool I recall using was the fan clutch removal kit. Otherwise, it was just regular tools. But it's been a long time, so I can't fully remember. Sorry.

No joke and it's sad! Even the Silverado, which really was their only good vehicle, has turned into garbage.
