I was really impressed, and very much enjoyed using the Humminbird Helix 5 DI fishfinder on my float tube. This is a great review on the water of the Helix 5 fish finder. It's actually mounted on an Outcast Super Fat Cat LCS float tube with our U3 float tube fish finder mounting kit from Float Tube Fanatics & Fish Finder Mounts .com. It was an amazing day for the fishing, and for the weather too. This was shot in Mid September, so we really ran into a great string of weather for this late in the year. Enjoy :)

+Float Tube Fanatics & Fish Finder Mounts .com Hi Tim, both are good products, but my personal choice would likely be the Helix 5. It was my favorite finder I used last year.

I just got a boat that came with one of these helix 5 di the transducer is on the back is there a mount to mount it on the trolling motor ..... plus it beeps sometimes on the water lol does that means it detects fish theres a cupple difrent types of beeps ...

Debating between the helix 5 DI, the Helix 5 SI KVD combo. and the hook 5. KVD is on sale 420 so $20 more then hook 5. Can you recommend one? Just want the best bang for my buck. Using Kayak, will sit in box in middle of the feel free lure 13.5. 2016 model

What do u think of Helix GPS vs Hook2 5 vs DragonFly 5 GPS????

We focus more on the sonar aspect, so we can't provide you with the best comparison feedback on the GPS aspect of these units. I like the simplicity of the Hook2 series marking waypoints etc. It feels a bit more intuitive from personal experience.

I have Helix 5 si gps, and in setting i dont have option unit temperature, language, and i can not change feets to metters, coz there istn option meters, does someone know what is this ?

+Jovan Djukic Hi Jovan, in the English manual, settings operation is described at page 139 & 140. I'm not sure which country you are in? It is possible the international version of the unit you have may not offer certain measurement unit settings, but I'm not certain of this. I recommend you call Humminbird directly if you can.

No, as this 1st generation Helix 5 DI doesn't have a GPS built in; but any that have a GPS or mapping feature should.

When looking at the screen and you see fish, where are the fish in relation to the transducer? Directly beneath it when they are in the middle of the screen?? I'm looking at getting my first fish graph.

If you watch this video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6loo5uJqMjTZ6M.html for example , you will see that objects are scanned and displayed in real time on the right side of the fish finder screen. This is where you amplitude scope is handy as it is a real time look at what is going on. The rest of the screen is more of a look at what just happened - a brief histogram if you will.

Have you had a problem glare from the Sun. I cannot see the screen at all when the Sun hits the screen. I sent it back to Humminbird and they sent it back not repaired. I have a 798SI and have no problem with it.

+Ronald Bolen No Ronald, I find the Helix 5 screen reasonably readable under direct sunlight conditions, with the backlight at a setting of 7/8.

+Ronald Bolen that seems to be the norm. I have tried everything, even adjusting the backlight. I have to put my unit all the way on 10. It has an excellent display, but when the sun hits the screen it is like looking in a mirror. It will blind you. I think I just got a faulty unit.Thanks!

+Ronald Bolen Hi Ronald, you might try and see if there are some anti reflective peel and stick covers or even maybe some kind of spray that might help - just an idea.

+Float Tube Fanatics & Fish Finder Mounts .com The guy at Humminbird said that they changed the display and he is going to test some more units. I just ordered a NuShield Dayvue Antiglare Shield. Hope that helps. Thanks!
