The Hungarian Folk Tales stem from original folktale collections, every episode has its special authentic ornamentation. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes.

The king brings presents for his daughters, but he cannot fulfil his youngest’s wish because he is unable to find talking grapes, smiling apples and ringing apricots anywhere. On his way home he gets into trouble and only a white swine is able to help him. In return for his assistance the king promises his daughter’s hand to the swine. So, the swine comes for the king's daughter, takes her with him on his cart to the pigsty. But then, lo and behold, ...
Made by the Kecskemét Film Studio.
Directed by: Mária Horváth
Storyteller: Gyula Szabó
Music: Kaláka band
The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

A lot of people try to logically interpret the story and end up with dark theories lol. Like, the pig drugged the princess with "corn" or her dad sold her to a pig for his precious carriage. I think yall need to think differently. The story is more like, If u stay true or genuine, rather than shallow and materialistic, you will come upon blessed fate later in your life. Even if things seem to be not going your way at first, you will always be rewarded in the end, for being a genuine soul. Those 2 older sisters seemed to be having things going their way right? but it's the youngest that was blessed with the best of fortune. The king too says it's the youngest daughter he likes the most, probably because, he feels that she is the only one out of the 3 who has a proper mind or personality. I'm not saying materialism itself is bad, I mean the king damn sure loved his horses and carriage lmao. But a mind with materialism ALONE, will only rot away in time. There's always some deep morale in these stories. Try not look at it on a surface level.

This fairy tale reminds me of the original Beauty and the Beast story. The father also had three daughters - the first two asked for pretty girly things, and the third asked for a plant (rose), the father ran into a spot of trouble during his travels, ran into a beast who made a deal with him for his youngest daughter, and you know the rest.

Yea. Those ugly sisters would be like omg shes gonna be with a BeAsT ew. But then she ends up with the most fortunate life as a result of her genuine heart and pure soul. Those 2 sisters are so mad, jelly and evil, upon seeing her wed a prince/king, that, a fairy sees them and curses their appearance to match their hearts. They physically turn into stones. As that's how their hearts were. Maybe the same fairy that cursed the prince to turn into a beast? cuz he won't give an old lady some shelter in his bigass kingdom amidst storms. The old lady reveals her true form and curses him to become a beast as he was such on the inside. Makes one wonder what could this prince have done, to make the fairy curse him, turn him into a pig, until the day a girl who loves a talking vine, smiling apple and jingling tingling peach, or, the stars, sun and the moon, shows up.

Besides all the "I give you my daughter in exchange for..." which is unthinkable in many countries nowadays, I found this story cute : The princess was looking for something so particular that a king couldn't buy and no craftsmen could make. But it was found in the most unusual of place. For me this is an analogy of richness beyond wealth that could be found in even the must humble of homes.

Got to love the logic of this story the first two sisters ask for things that are flashy yes but concrete and easy enough to buy if you're as wealthy as a king and they're the bad sisters and then the third sister asks for things that literally don't exist and three of them and she's the good one

In this case it symbolises a kind of special-ness(if you haven't already figured that out from the wishes and the lucky third girl). The other people have generic white eyes. Just human. Not special. Something like this. It's rather symbolic than literal, it's a cartoon after all.

Mallard Duck/ JRH YO you're telling me!! Folk tales are always so weird. My mom told me a Filipino one about a girl that got turned into a pineapple cuz she was too lazy and her mom said 'I wish you had MANY eyes, clearly you don't know how to use your TWO eyes'....y'know...cuz...pineapples have many 'eyes'....

Love these tales cause you never know what to expect. For all we know the next tale is about a talking frog seeking revenge on a king for killing his kids to make a medicine for his wife to be young again so she can go up in a mountain to sew a dress for a witch the king once met and promised her a dress so she could make his love interest to fall in love with him. Also the frogs son is now a fine mustached fella trying to find the wife so he can tell her her love for the king isn't real but the result of the witches spell.

The moral I see here is that no matter how unsatisfied you are with an unexpexting event, you can still make the best out of it and get a happy life. This story I will endear to my heart as it teaches a nice moral yet again. I'm happy that these Hungarian folk tales carry such strong messages. :)
