I actually think that Lucy Gray survived and she is Katniss’s grandmother because Suzanne hints at it when Lucy Gray says that she’s gone “pick katniss” at the end of TBOSAS.

You nailed it! Yes, Maude Ivory was Katniss's paternal grandmother. Katniss's paternal grandfather, I believe, was original named Evergreen, and at some point in time the Capitol banned music in District 12, as well as all colors associated with the Covey's music. Evergreen changed his named to Everdeen, and passed that named down two generations to Katniss. I doubt whether Lucy Gray ever returned to District 12, assuming she survived. Mayor LIpp would have immediately had her executed. So she either died, or went into the wilderness to the north. Great video, very thoughtful!

I think she did survive and I would like to think so. But I also think she escapes somewhere. Probably far away and she could either be President Coin, or she lives in exile. Or the impossible could’ve happened and she could vary well be Katniss’s grandmother. It’s open ended unless Suzanne decided she wants to close that up.

I have been thinking that it would be interesting if Lucy had survived her final standoff with Snow only to find out that she was pregnant. Maybe she died in childbirth and then Lucy Grey's family had to raise Katniss's father as a foundling type situation. They had to keep Lucy Grey hidden and the childbirth was too much for her to survive. This would explain why there is almost a disregard for her family in the "higher" circles of the society. Yes she has a single mom but I can't imagine that coal mining doesn't result in that often. Then for her to be the districts hero kinda gives that full upturn of born of a bastard at the bottom of the bottom of the district story that would resonate with the oppressed. Since we have it from Katniss's perspective that would also explain why it seems early on that Snow first sees her and targets her for her looks like her paternal grandmother, but also why she has to attract attention of the capital people. She is what they all think of the other districts. She is the grandchild of a teen mother who has no known father. She is the product of a single parent household. She is pretty but not over the top extravagant, so they were these outrageous outfits and are not a pretty as she is in her simple braid and her understated by their standards garb. To be honest that might be why Cinna was sent to her. He wanted things amazing but also to be understated and simple. When the others were all gold and flash their outfits were smile with their own flare. I could see the family that saw Lucy Grey get taken from them for standing out would have wanted simple and functional aspects so they could step back into the shadows. This might be what happened to the band too. They knew that being the flash and with the outlaw of music they faded into the rest of the district. At least this is what I have thought when I read the ballad of songbirds and snakes a year or so ago.

I think it's highly unlikely considering that Lucy either died or moved away to the North or Canada. If she fifnt find anyone up there, she would have died if she wasn't already killed dby Coriolanus , and if there WAS people what would be her incentive for coming back?

Katniss will not only be Lucy Gray's granddaughter, ALSO SNOW´s!! When Lucy flees she is pregnant from Snow´s son and remains in the forest until she has her son (Katniss's father). For reasons the author will have to figure out (perhaps she dies during childbirth), Ivory will introduce Lucy's son as her son (or as a member of the flock). It is a very Star Wars version (with Luke hiding it) and that would justify that neither Katniss's father nor she herself would know (to protect them from Snow). Plus, it's much clearer that "What You Love Most Destroys You" is because she's the President's own granddaughter (and Snow's fascination with Katniss).

Lucy Grey is named after a ghost. Her spirit lives on in the Hanging Tree. She is a legend.
