There's something about Jennifer Lawrence's voice when she sang this song in the movie that made it so touching (I don't know if this is the right word for it). She sounds desperate, afraid, and sad all at the same time.

And that .. effect? Fits so well with that particular song, because if I remember correctly (it has been quite some time since I read the books) that song was basically banned by the capitol early in Katniss’ life because it was seen as potentially revolutionary in nature (despite having a history long predating the first rebellion) so it makes sense that she sounds afraid, not only has it always been very “risky” to sing it but she makes it clear that she doesn’t really like being in front of the camera either, also it probably reminds her a lot about her father

That's because she didn't want to sing it and was forced by the director to do so. She was unsure of her singing.

The increase in tempo is ever so slight, but CONSTANTLY building throughout the entire song, and the more people that are added and the louder it gets, the faster it gets too. For a hundred people to pull it all off? DAMN. From a note playing perspective, this song is easy. But from a technique and orchestration perspective? DAAAAAAMN.

Hats off to James Newton Howard for taking Suzanne Collins' lyrics and composing a breathtakingly... haunting, sad... troubling song. I can't remove it from the story in my head so Idk if Jenniffer Lawrence's rendition can be topped. The rawness and disquiet she sang it with was perfectly gut wrentching. That being said this rendition is beautiful and velvety. It feels far removed from the story but exquisitly and elegantly performed. Beautifully done.

I'm still bothered by 'rope' being replaced by 'hope' in the movies. Regardless, it's SUCH a haunting and beautiful song. There was a fan made version I loved before the movie version came out, but the scenes with Jennifer singing it's really incredible
@feifiefofum1

i dunno, i think the necklace of hope has called a certain image to mind that underscores how dire the situation is. like rope describes the physical object that killed them and all that implies. but hope being the thing that killed them- the hope for a better future, for revolution- it has a certain deadly ring to it that chills my soul personally. hope killed them, not the system that bought the rope, not the faceless government executioner, but the hope that damned them.
