The purpose of the "low budget bomb" was to let the audience know that the ants never stood a chance of conquering humans. A single bomb could take out the strongest ant, what would happen if they dropped a hundred, a thousand bombs, forsaking the population of the small island the ants are on.

Not really, the message was that humans can be really pieces of shit and really good at killing things. After all those things aren't even banned because the countries use them to rule by fear.

@@kingragnarok7302 your point is more emphasized by the description of the bombs effect and the fact that humanity refused to ban the use of such terrible weapons. If he wanted to simply make a irl nuke reference, he wouldn't have bothered with the low budget part. It would have just been "we can create weapons that can kill millions at a time". The manga never gets into it, but imagine what a high budget, well designed nuke in this world can do. Imagine a several hundred pound bomb infused with the nen of hundreds of individuals instead of just a small cheap thing that can fit inside the body of an old man. The Rose is like the equivalent of an RPG in our world in terms of rarity and difficulty to manufacture.

ian long you have to account how fast the king moves tho (and that’s not even considering when he got even stronger) like you thing he can’t run before a bomb is dropped on him? Maybe if one that was at or around ground level were to detonate when he’s nearby it’d kill him but if someone were to either drop a bomb via aircraft (which let’s be honest would be destroyed real quick) or launch one he’d probably be able to get away (those launching Bombs would have to consider human casualties as well, also the way you mention it makes it seem like you’re referring to it as something just a little more powerful than a grenade, like this bomb was powerful lol and was only successful in the king as he was caught off guard

@@Blockshot16 the rpg comment wasn't referring to how powerful the bomb was, rather his easy it is to manufacture. In the real world, nuclear weapons are incredibly difficult to make and cost millions of dollars per bomb. As for the kings speed, it doesn't matter how fast you are if the entire Island you're on gets destroyed. It never says how large the kings en range is, but I'm pretty sure humans can sill fly above like how netero and zeno infiltrated the palace.

The fact thet he used a low budget bomb shows thet even tho we the spectators have been considering the ants as an international danger, they really were nothing in the grand scheme of things the could have easily dealt with all of the ants by nuking the whole country. And this teaches us that whatever what happens humans will come out on top because we don t play by the rules, which what netero calls humanity's infinite potential for evolution/malice

Humans don't play by the rules ?What rules ? It would be actually unfair if humans don't use everything in their power to destroy the threat they're facing. The ants were gonna kill all humanity, so both humans and ants played their cards, and the ants lost because they were naive into thinking that physical strenght alone would be enough to eradicate humans whithout planing or strategising how to fight against them, a specie that's been around before them and fare advanced technologically. The ants were arrogant and ignorant that's why they lost.

Fun fact: in episode 88-89 netero says: "i dont think i can accomplish this mission without sacrifycing someone's life", who would've thought he would be the one sacrifyng in order to win this battle, thats what iblove about this show, the small details

If you like some foreshadowing, do you remember the little test he had against Gon and Killua back in the Hunter exam? Remember how he deliberately didn't used an arm and leg against them? That's the bias Meruem was talking about.

everyone else in this mission was a sacrifice, they know the royal guards are too strong for win in a 2 vs 1 or 1 vs 1 (Gon and Killua vs Pitou, Knuckle and Shoot vs Youpi and Morel vs Pouf), Shoot lost in around 10 seconds vs Youpi and others survived just for specific things happened like Komugi injured or Youpi that don't care about killing the enemy In episodes before we also have Know that say "isn't important if we lose 3-1 if the one win is vs the king" and Netero say "my subordinates probably are death at this point" (when talk with Neruem for convince him to fight)

His real sacrifice was Gon when he saw pitou healing komugi in the palace. They need to get rid of pitou or else his poison bomb plan is useless.

@@solodolosolomon So do you think that in over 50 years he never fought anybody using his nen? I remind you Maha Zoldyck was better than him (Zeno himself stated that he is the only one who survived against Maha, not the only one who has won against him). And also he trained for months his mind and body to regain his prime strenght to be able to face Meruem. Anyway still, Zero barely scratched Meruem, how can anybody thinks that even if Netero was younger he could have won? If Meruem wanted to kill him he would have beheaded him instead of ripping off his leg but he wanted to have him admit defeat, in a serious fight, Netero wouldn't even had time to use Zero, the only move able to make Meruem feel something.

Netero said that he wasn't the best Nen user anymore. There is like 4-6 stronger Nen users in the world at this point. If you think one blow of his ability do nothing to the top ants (Meruem and Pitou). Keep that in mind for the future.

No. he was. For the simple fact that it was only after his death that certain folks began their hunt towards a certain restricted zone. He was just merely being Netero when he said he wasnt the best nen user anymore to Morel and Knov. Now was he as strong as he was at his peak? Probably not. But fairly certain he was close after he went into hiding to focus on powering up. Neteros power kept the buffer between the world and the restricted zone.

Netero downplays his own strength significantly. As of right now (as established), there aren't any character that really seem stronger than Netero. There are a couple possibilities, but we won't know until we actually see them do stuff. I'm thinking of three characters in specific.

this arc was about humanity i think the right subtitles were "you have no idea of the bottomless malice inside the human heart" which shows the viewer how scary and evil humans can be.To add to that meruem was starting to shift towards his human side after meeting komugi while netero and mostly gon on the other hand were losing their humanity so the whole philosophic meaning behing netero/gon fights was...who is in the wrong?who is more human the actual humans that also have nuclear bombs and immensely lethal weapons and dont care about sacrificing even their own kind for the sake of achieving whatever goal they have or even so much as for simple money? or the ant/human hybrid who killed humans and everything in his path from birth but started to question that after meeting komugi?

In the original manga, what netero said was "meruen, king of ants, you understand nothing of the infinite potential of human evolution, and the sins we committed" (best i can translate) which will make more sense because of the nuke inside him.

There is always a level of raw energy that can overcome any amount of strength, even in anime. Nuclear weapons are so irrationally powerful that short of intercepting the bomb before detonation, it is simply not possible to survive. Even dragonball characters would be susceptible to this level of destruction due to the radiation

To be fair, the King was TOO kind with what he proposed to Netero. Biologically speaking, at this arc, the ants became the new "humans" and the humans became the new "animals". Meruem just said, some of yall are impressive pets, we will play with you, feed you, give you baths, etc. Basically, he will do whatever humans did to the previous un-evolved animals. As I said, biologically, ants are superior and humans are the new "dogs" of the planet. And considering that humans (when they were the top of the food chain) killed most of the animals, then Meruem was WAY more kind than he should.

After reevaluating Mereum's extended delving into strategy, I think Netero could've beaten him if he had fought him before Mereum went to the palace. If he never developed his strategic mindset he may very well have never figured out how to get through Netero's perfect defense, whether due to ignorance or pride.

@@LeParesseuxNoir I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but Netero's defense undeniably took careful strategy and planning on Mereum's part to get through. Overall Mereum was powerless against the Guanyin's strikes.

@@VegaSlides the think is it did nothing much. Zero hand did "zero" much so i don't see how he would won. Even if meruem has not his strategic, we know that he still is super smart so it's not to much to think he would come up for something and take him out.

The thing is Mereum never tried to kill Netero. He was just trying to convince him to tell him his name. If he was tryyin to kill Netero he'd do it pretty quickly.

@@cihads4698 The times Meruem snuck through Netero's defense he could have easily decided to land a fatal blow instead. But what I'm saying is without his strategic mindset and humility he could very well have lost through attrition. Meruem was undeniably powerless to stop active hits from Guanyin, and Netero's attacks were faster than Meruem. Netero didn't show any signs of getting fatigued until Zero Hand, but it was said that Meruem was "beginning to feel the slightest hints of dull pain." Less than a minute into the fight. If Meruem never pierced the defense he would eventually lose assuming Netero can use his Hatsu for a decent amount of time.

this dialogue "never estimate human beings" is why HxH themes are a masterpiece that no anime could've ever reached (except Attack on Titan, another masterpiece), nen can be powerful and stuff, but an atomic bomb, chernobyl is still a very toxic place to this day, so yes! humans are very scary and should never be underestimated.

MonkeyKingBambina Whether you think Togashi writes better than William that’s for you, but I never underestimated Togashi I still think he is a genius but that specific dialogue isn’t even the best in its respective series, and I believe multiple writers wrote better shit than that which doesn’t mean Togashi is any less brilliant
