The receiver is not aluminum. The bolt locks into the barrel lug. It’s just as strong as any bolt action. It is designed to handle the same pressures as a bolt gun. The advantage of a bolt is the leverage to squeeze in a tight case. As far as accuracy, it’s fully free floated they are very accurate, you are right on with the trigger.

Critisizing this iconic deer killing machine to those of us who praise this classic firearm design is like critisizing your friends hunting dog. It’s never done. That said, my Remington “six” in 30-06 is as accurate as my Sako in 270 WCF. If you were hunting in the big woods or anywhere else for that matter, the Remington pump rifle is a good bet to track down and shoot a giant - without firearm failure and a lightning follow up shot or just some extra insurance if you should need it. Under 1” MOA - sometimes near 1/2” with hand loads. Never disappoints - and that is why we love this design.

Enjoyed your video , but must correct your statement that the rec. is Alum. The rec. is all steel, only the trigger guard is Alum. I am 68 yrs young, Spent 66 yrs in PA,the REM pump was a very popular deer rifle in the north east. Along with your lever actions such as the 99 sav. Win.88. And Browning BLR. I have many bolt actions but come Buck season I was usually toten a REM pump. In my Coll. I have 11 cal. 270,7mm08,280,3006,and a favorite, 35 Whalen, most will shoot close to 1 mos or less. Shot a truckload of Bucks and 2 PA black bear with the REM pump 97% of the time one shot. Guess we’ll have to wait and see any new ones will be manufactured. Keep the videos coming

I have a Remington Model Six, which is basically a fancy 7600. Mine is chambered in.270 and it’s deadly accurate. I put a new scope and a new trigger spring last year and it is like a completely new rifle. It’s almost 40 years old and I have taken a bunch of deer with it.

7600 not a strong construction? Wow, you couldn't be more wrong. We have 3 of these rifles for the last 35 years. No failures, tack drivers all of them. Love these rifles. Due to the narrowness of the receiver at the magazine, it is a dream to carry. Where a typical bolt action is much wider. Regarding the trigger, install the Timminey trigger fix. Certainly it will never be the trigger equivalent of say an old Rem 700, but the Timminy fix is a significant improvement. Great woods gun for the East. yeah, you hunt the great plains, get yourself a Mod 70 Super grade. Not a pump.

Chris T Yackiel Certainly not strong construction when compared to a forged receiver for example. I’m certainly not implying that these guns are going to fall apart or anything like that. I hunt out west with a pre-64 model 70 in 30-06, but I have also taken a number of deer with the 7600 in 308

The best? I carry a Winchester 94 30-30. It works fine for me. The only advantages of a pump over a lever action is pumps are easier to cycle if you are shooting from the prone position.
@oncall21
@oncall21 3 жыл бұрын
@@mydixiewrecked515 the advantage of the pump action over the lever actions (with the exception of the BLR and Henry’s Long Ranger) is that they can shoot high intensity, spitzer centrefire rounds such as .270, 30/06, 35 Whelan, etc. They can reach out where tube fed rounds like 30/30, 45/70, etc can’t. Having said that I will never part with my ‘JM’ 1895 45/70.

I have a 760 in 30-06; it was a gift from my dad when I was 15 back in 1979 - he had bought another deer rifle and I shamed him into giving me the old one. My old man always shot either 180 or 220 grain bullets from it. I started shooting 165 grain bullets - boys always have to try something different. I could never get better than 1.5" groups @ 100 yards, usually closer to 2". I just figured that was all the rifle would do. While preparing for a trip to Nebraska a few years ago i picked up some cheap 150 grain ammo just to plink, it grouped about 1" which I thought was an anomaly; picked up some premium 150 grain ammo and consistently grouped just under or at 1" all day while employing the two sacks of corn on the hood of the truck method. I was pleasantly surprised. I do not reload, but have since found some premium 180 grain ammo that also shoots well, but she simply doesn't like 165 grain ammo.

As a boy about 12 or 13 I watched daddy roll up a 6pt at a trot with his 30-06 rem 7600 at 550-ish large steps (don't know actual yardage but probably roughly that) down a powerline field. Never took a step. I also took my first deer with that gun, big doe dropped in her tracks as well. Recently I rescued a model four (a nicer finished model 7400) in .308 from the local used rack, cleaned up the chamber real nice and I love this gun, it reminds me of "daddy's gun" but I love the softer shooting gas-operated .308 versus the -06 pump. It even likes the same cheap Winchester ammo his does lol

And the "tube" doesn't hold the barrel on.. I laughed when I heard that. I get it. They are actually built tough and easily weilded. But he still gives it a thumbs up. .308 is not the best choice for a long shooter anyhow.
@chubbruleigh8682
@chubbruleigh8682 5 жыл бұрын
The .308 has won more long distance shooting matches than any other caliber. Bullet selection is and should be a top priority when purchasing ammo for a particular hunting or shooting situation. As far as the action not locking up as tight as your bolt gun, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out where you come up with the data to back up such a statement. The .308 Win. can develop over 61,000 CUP of pressure, the 7600 can handle that as well as any other action. The free floated barrel attached to the STEEL receiver of the 7600 make it a very accurate platform. The only downfalls to the Remington 7600 for long range bench rest shooting or hunting are (1) the trigger sucks, you got that correct (2) cycling the action from the prone position is not impossibly but requires far more movement than you want to do during a competition or follow up shot situation during hunting.

In eastern woods the 270 is hard to top. Small tracks of land lend to animal theft. Need them to drop on the spot! 130 grain bullets drivin to 3100+ FPS . Blows a thin skinned deer down most generally. No death run . It makes a difference in the real world. Knock down power!

Misinformation !!! The receiver is STEEL and that tube does not support the barrel, the barrel is free floating, the tube supports the slide action ! I have a 7600 in 35 Whelen and bought one for my son also. It could be considered overkill for deer but I do like it's ballistics. @Thomas, I have many guns and calibers, and the 35 Remington is one of the calibers I own, but I don't have a 35 Whelen, which I like to get one someday. I heard and read many good things on the 35 W. Might be wrong, but 35 W does not sound like its overkill to me for deer. The 3 calibers I think is probably is overkill for deer is the 338 Win mag and the 375 H&H or this newer 375 Ruger. But recently read or heard that they are making a bullet for the 338 Win mag just for deer hunting.

If there’s play and a rattle, you may need a new action tube ring. It’s a $5 O-ring that’s replaceable. I changed twice on my 7600 already. If you do the job, make sure you lubricate it well with moly lube, as recommended by Remington when I called them for a lube recommendation.

Enjoyed the video, congrats on the successful hunt! I had the synthetic version in .30-06 with the 18.5" barrel. Sure wish I could have found it in .35 Remington as it was a great little brush gun, but the recoil and muzzle blast were a bit much! The forearm placement on the pump may be a little too far forward for some shooters who are used to a bolt action rifle.

Leaving a comment like you said. Think 270 Win and 308 Win are both excellent hunting calibers. I have both of these hunting calibers. Admit never hunted with the 270 Win but I did hunt with the 308 Win and I like it. 308 is one of my 5 favorite hunting calibers. Think the pump's is probably the best thing Remington ever has made. Not a fan no more of Remington, cause seemed like they made a lot of junk since the 1990's, but thinking about picking up one of their older pump rifles made before 1980. (1.) Just don't understand why other gun companies like Mossberg or Ithaca etc...never started making their version of the pump rifles ? (2.) Then also on why cut down the barrel 4 inches for ? Do understand on why some shorter people cut down stock, cause it fits them better, and they also shoot better with a shorter stock, but why the barrel.

My father supplied me with a 552 22 speedmaster a 870 LW 20 Gage wingmaster pump and a 7400 Rem.270 simi auto rifle. So other than a hnr 410 single i hunted squirrels with untill 10 years old and a marlin 3030 i used from 10 -13 years old. All of my hunting and shooting has been with the same Remington trigger. I agree its not the best. ALTHOUGH i am very consistent shooter because its the only trigger i have hunted with. My 270 on bench with bags topped with a fixed 6 power Burris scope will shoot 1 ragged dime sized 5 shot group at 100 yards. COLD BORE i let it cool completely between shots. Otherwise the thin sporting barrel will string groups because of heat. The higher the temp the bigger the groups. Even so ,with the barrel smoking hot it will still hold pie plate sized groups .RAPID FIRE. I have been thinking a pump rebarreled in quarrter bore 25,06 would be nice when i go West to hunt, others tell me 6.5,06 is better for very long ranges. I am for certain getting a pump 308 because of ammo available. I had a custom rifle built by a smith in Montana 20 years ago. K98k ,timney,26' bull barrel, laminate stock ,tack driver . 2,000 bucks 12lbs. Never used it. To heavy . Nice target or varmint rifle,, traded it for a truck.lol. like my Remingtons. 130grain silver tips are what my rifle likes to eat. Puts the game down humanely as well. Good luck, i believe the more you handle yours the more you will like it.

Remington 760, and 7600's are the very best hunting rifle's out there available! i got my new 760 .308 Gamemaster carbine, and killed everything it hit for 15 years! just retired it for a new 7600 35 WHELEN! cant wait to be WHELEN'EM this coming season! the .308 is all around better IMO than .270, just the recoil alone will be more with the .270 but the .308 is the king of whitetail hunting! being pump and not a Bolt action, i dont have to move my hands to reload! thus meaning quicker target acqusition, Quicker follow up shots, its just better for hunting! say nothing about being Left handed! here in VT not to much wide open shots, and the 30 cal power of the .308 ill take every time! If your shooting hundreds of yards than look for a projectile with low BC, just common sense! but there way better for hunting in the woods than any bolt action i feel! OMG BOLT ACTION! I bet i can shoot just as good as you with your bolt action! if you dont think so, lets try it out!

However I own and use an older 1964 made “5 Diamond” 760 (30/06) has metal buttplate on it I been hunting hard with it for over 30+ years I never try to shoot at a deer more than 350 yards with factory ammo… I know few guys who have newer 7600 model they reload for their gun they take deer and antelope out at 500+ yards the newer 7600’s are definitely more accurate with free floating barrel compared to the older early 760s that had attachment between barrel and forearm tube … mine will shoot 1-1/2 group at 100 … @ 200 more like 2-1/2” to 3” group suitable enough for deer most of my shots are in heavy timber 100-130 yards or less not bad for an ol’school gun that been knocking deer down for 57 years … one thing I have noticed is newer 7600 magazines don’t fit in my older 760 I have to use original stamped metal 760 magazine or a older style 740 magazine… in Pennsylvania we call them the “Amish machine guns” there isn’t a deer camp where at least one or two guys shows up using a 760/7600 very popular rifles in Pennsylvania, but now a days I’m seeing a lot lesser 760s in the woods a lot guys are using bolt actions now a days

Hmm, well I thought you had said that inadvertently. That's the first time I heard the .308 Winchester called 30-08' and I worked in the firearms industry going back to the 1980's. The designation would be incorrect because historically the second portion of the designation would indicate the year the cartridge was invented. For example; the 30 in the 30-06 Springfield indicates the diameter of the round .30 of an inch. The second portion, 06' (1906) is in reference to the year in which the cartridge was created. In the case of the .308 Winchester, 30-52' might have been more appropriate. You may have already known this but it may throw off some of your less experienced viewers.

As a newbie I'm learning as much as I can before going. Would this gun in 30-06 be flatter then the.308? I plan on using it anyway, just have found your videos on it the most enjoyable. Thanks

Marginally. A .270 or .243 will shoot even flatter.

too bad you don't have the .270 on the 7600 and the .308 on the bolt..then you may not have the accuracy issues, since the .270 has a flat trajectory for a long distance

It's two bad that its not shooting better. I have 2 of the 760 models, 1 shoots 3 rounds touching and the other shoots a 0.75 to 1 in moa groups.

i just picked one up at an estate sale was cheap enough but the action wont lock into place and it wont fire. the little locking lever on the trigger assembly doesnt seem to be going into the locking position. have you ever had this problem with your 7600?

correct, it's steel. And the bolt locks into the barrel extension, which is also steel. No idea what he's talking about. He doesn't either.

It’s plain to see you are not to brite put a magnet on the receiver it’s steel it’s also a very accurate and yes I have three of them and they all shoot hole to hole the bolt action rifle you have is junk it was Remingtons answer to cheaper rifles on the market

Jacob Mullins it floated my boat to the tune of 3 mule deer this year LOL. 308 is definitely not my first choice in a deer hunting round it most definitely gets the job done. I prefer 270 because it's flatter shooting

It looks just as cheaply made as the 742 semi you hated so much. Looks like a thin Rem 870 receiver too.
