Ride out the storm with us at Haptic Garage while we restore VW bug Dweezil during Hurricane Irma. We'll finish painting the front suspension and steering parts with Rustoleum Primer and Gloss Black Enamel, take another look at the new stainless steel fuel line project, disassemble the rear brakes, and remove the Volkswagen transaxle. It’s getting a little breezy in here...

Hurricanes are a thing here, but thankfully I'm inland and never see the worst of it. The last really bad one for me was Charlie about 16 years ago. It's just one of those things where you hope for the best and reasonably prepare for the worst. Thanks for the encouragement; when we return to the Dweezil project there will be some catching up to do and then we'll set sights on finishing! Thanks for viewing the series!

attached is my first you tube video my son & others talked me into sharing my work on vw bus. Reason i attached it is to show you how i just used two saw horses for working on our VW floor pans. Looking at it now was not very safe but is funny. Back when my son was 12 we started the project finished it when he was 16 . Watching this fun to see how much he changed from 12 to 16. For us VW beetle have been a great father/ son time, which started when he was 3 years old going to car shows. This Feb. he will be 31 & is my best friend. We still enjoy vw beetles & buses plus have more projects than time and dollars. Yestherday we talked about what we will do in the spring. For the first time will not be doing 100% vw's. My son fell in love with a 1986 Chevy C10 i picked up this year. That sure surprized me, so i gave it to him, and i will be working on a vette i got this year. We still have vw projects along with our new chevy projects. (time & money still a factor, along with my health--dad got old & broken like our car projects) Santa This year will bring a lot of c10 patch sheet metal patchs pieces from LMC & a few vette mods....kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ocBjmZd-lrvJg6c.html You have a great channel & content the best video work i have seen on you tube.

Thanks Busman 54! That's a fun intro video you shared- was neat to notice Mid America Motorworks in one of the show pics. The sawhorses may not be what you'd call "overbuilt", but they appeared functional and didn't lead to any issues. As always, thanks for checking out the video!

My 59 is ment for competition off-road use only,not street legal ,could be ,but I have other choices for daily transportation( my 93 Harley chopper and my 92 Chevy Silverado 4x4,,,)therefore I put in access panels so I can get to starter and clutch lever quickly ,also makes engine swaps easier due to access to bolts ,putting in access panel to tunnel soon for future use, brake,fuel,shift rod ect....if ever needed...rear valance and all fenders quick remove with dzues fasteners( still in progress ) makes engine removal fast with no need to lift car.... But I learned a thing or two from you....will be putting out vids myself soon....lots of editing,to busy working on car up to now....

Looking good! Great video man! I like seeing progress. Too bad I'm not making any progress on mine... lol! It's really cold out up here in New England. Another great penetrating fluid is a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Shake it up well, spray it on and wait maybe 15 minutes and you're good. Better than any store bought penetrating fluid I've ever used... PB blaster is pretty a good store bought one though...
@HapticGarage
@HapticGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks XFretless! I agree that frigid temps can make progress difficult on an old car- you guys see painfully low temps up there. That's a good tip about the 50/50 acetone/ATF mix, will have to try that. I guess it would be important to keep it sealed to prevent the acetone from evaporating. Will give it a shot. The best store bough stuff I've used is called "Kroil"; found it at a shop specializing in Model A Fords.
@XFretless
@XFretless 4 жыл бұрын
@@HapticGarage I have heard of "Kroil" I've never used it though. I'm going to have to try that as well! The cold temps up here aren't so bad with a heated garage lol! Getting older, I've noticed I don't like the cold and hate working in it even more. I'd love to move to a warmer climate. I'd also like to be independently wealthy, but, I'm not, like many others and have to work 55 plus hours a week to survive. That doesn't leave as much garage time for me as I'd like either. Idk how some people have the time to video their projects and still have time to edit them lol! All of my test videos I've deleted cuz I think I look and sound like an idiot! Lol! I'll be posting a video of my messy garage. Hopefully I'll be happy with the footage to start up my channel of cleaning out ands organising my garage, then the build of my Baja! I've collected many many parts to get this built. But I keep changing my mind on what I want... keep up the good work! You're inspiring me to get stuff done!

Enjoying the series as I am about to embark myself on this same journey. Doing a 73 Baja Bug with a 2.5 SOHC Subaru. I have to replace the floors on mine though :( I must say, I was getting stressed when you were unbolting everything from the spring plates. I keep hearing about how much pressure they hold. Did they pop on you when unbolting them? Thank you for the videos!
@HapticGarage
@HapticGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the channel Biff! Your Baja project sounds great. There wasn't an uncontrolled pop when I dealt with the plates, but it's true they hold considerable tension...roughly equal to the weight of the car if you think about what they do. The spring plate tool did the trick for me on my swingaxle, supposedly they work on IRS cars like yours too. Good luck, be careful, and let us know how it goes!
@biffbastion301
@biffbastion301 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tips and looking forward to seeing your project to the end. Though I guess they are never really “done”. I missed your first video after I already posted and saw you had to tackle the floors on yours too early on. Seems to be a common theme. My next step will be removing the front beam and redoing all the suspension (hint on where I started on your series). LOL Going the 3 inch lift spindle with disc brakes route. I am tempted to remove the body and do it right like you are doing.
@HapticGarage
@HapticGarage 4 жыл бұрын
@@biffbastion301 Thanks for catching up on the earlier videos- you're right, never really done! Disc brakes sound like a good idea with all that Subie power, that lift will look great and it should be fun to drive. Pulling the body introduces a lot of those "while I'm here I might as well..." added steps, but having the access to the chassis is well worth it!

Mine were stiff too but I eventually decided it was just because they were new. With everything installed, the leverage from the steering wheel made it seem normal. Those GMC motorhome are cool and unique. Front wheel drive too! Thankfully they have enough of a following that more of them survive, information is available, and parts can be found. Not a bad choice for a vintage motorhome. If you like the Winnebagos at all you might check out what @robstapleton has been posting recently- he's following a '69 Brave project that Ryan Lowther picked up. The plan for Haptic Garage is to pull Dweezil behind the Moseyhome. Really excited about this! That area north of Daytona is my favorite section of A1A; around Flagler Beach and Gamble Rodgers State Park. Such a pretty area. Thanks again for checking out the Argosy road trip video- it doesn't get a lot of views but is one of my favorites. Let us know if you find a GMC, that would be super cool!
