I got a used 68” epic off of marketplace for less than the husky professional boxes you showed online. First snap on box I’ve owned and I’m very pleased with it.

You know after researching and looking at different boxes I’m going with Tektons 60” 30”deep tool cabinet. Each drawer can hold 400lbs and it just looks like it’s built to last a lifetime and for $3800 I think it’s a fantastic deal!

Great review. As far as Husky tool boxes, they basically make three levels of tool boxes. Some say 4, but in reality, the 4th one is simply different items used on their lower end, entry level, like one will have a thinner or thicker wooden work top or stainless work top. Regardless, those are still their Standard boxes. Their 1st level/ entry level what they call Standard Duty boxes are just that, entry level. They use 21 ga steel, a few welds and rivets to hold them together. The welds aren't really that great by comparison to their higher levels, but they are still better than Kobalt, one of their main competitors. (But then again, who isn't better than Kobalt?) Their 2nd level, what they call Heavy Duty (which is the box you have) jumps up their steel to 19 ga. From what I have seen in the stores, they add a smidgen more welds and rivets, and most boxes are a bit nicer when it comes to the manufacturing process. You get better paint as well. Their 3rd level is the Professional Duty series, are made with 16 ga steel, and since I've only seen one box in person, and that was only for a brief second, it appeared to have a little more attention to detail, better welds and metal shaping/curved over edges etc. So maybe when you start at their factory, you are on the lower level boxes, and hopefully you learn a bit more and take a little more pride in your work and move up and so on. Obviously as you move up the chart, your components are better, more robust. The casters, drawer slides locks and as you mentioned, lighting all tend to get a little bit better. For the price, they are quite appealing to many, especially those on a thin budget. Although in my professional opinion, if I was only looking for a typical top/bottom chest combo, I'd pay a little more and go with the Milwaukee Tool brand boxes over their Standard Duty and Heavy Duty boxes. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, Milwaukee doesn't make a box in the configuration that you have in this video, only top/bottom chests and work benches and carts(only a side locker, no hutch). But that's a different story all together. But with the large amount of manufacturers out there, overall, I believe that Husky offers a great value.

You brother in law box has to be heavier build because it has to handle more weight for the top box. But your locker being not as deep as the box it self is absolutely crazy ... I never been a big fan of this style Husky box ... You live and learn James. Good video 👍👍👍
@MidwestToolReview
@MidwestToolReview 2 жыл бұрын
That may be; never considered that, but the hutch isn’t a feather weight either…I just wished they’d kept the materials sizes consistent across the various product types. The side locker doesn’t make any sense, and as I noted, casters and various finishes could’ve been improved. Live and learn is an accurate statement…

I am not surprised you are disappointed, especially considering you have a matco jamestown, their really is no comparison between a DIY box like this husky and a professional box. I scored a mac tech 1000 on marketplace and used pro boxes are the only way I will go moving forward. That Rob dahm box basically looked like a black icon box to me.

My co-worker just spent 16,000 for a snap on box and hutch and it's smaller than my husky. And there's no way Ill spend that kind of money for that . I love mine. Seems like you have buyers remorse.

Well yeah you really are just getting the most storage for your money. You get the key mechanics items. It's great for enthusiasts or home shops. It does hold up okay if it's not overloaded although the soft close does wear out after heavy use or loading near max. Professional series ones seem like Mac Toolboxes since its Stanley Black and Deckers big retailer not sure though.

Husky's 'professional' grade boxes look nice, but overpriced in my opinion. While they want $5k for the hutch/box combo, I'd much rather spend the extra thousand on the Tool Vault Elite 84" XL (TV-84Combo1), which i plan on doing. Lift latch drawer pulls, 84" of workspace with 30" of drawer depth. I've just never been a fan of soft-close or detent style drawer slides.

@jacobhendrickson8935 2 жыл бұрын
Your tool setup needs a way more professional grade box than what you have bought here. You have bought a budget, ( the cheapest available hutch setup on the market) and expected snap on quality. That box is a excellent deal at 1400 and no one even comes close to that price for a setup like yours. You need higher end box. Now if you had pad 3500 for this box I’d understand your complaints. Bottom line is for the price there isn’t a better deal out there. I am super impressed that top drawer is holding up to your 10,000 dollars worth of sockets in a 1000 dollar box. Lol.
@MidwestToolReview
@MidwestToolReview 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t disagree that I should have a pro-series box, but at any price point, you should not expect to receive a box with buckled corners or any structural related damage. Overall, I’ve been nothing short of impressed with this box. I’m not one for settling in terms of what I expect for my money, therefore whether I spend $1400 or $14000, I expect the manufacture to deliver on quality, after all, they did not design the box with defective corners

15:19. The Icon box is a pretty serious box, possibly better built than Snap-On. Quite a bit better built than the Husky Pro box for sure. (In fact, I'd say the Husky Pro is more comparable with HF's lower end U.S. General line, and even then, it's not clear the U.S. General doesn't out rank it.) They are priced the same (both $3,500), but the Husky goes on sale quite often (it's $3,000 right now), which really puts it about $500 less than the Icon. Honestly, I'd buy the Icon box without hesitation. You won't get as many features, but the features you get will be built like they mean it.

I have no problem with home depot or harbor freight, but if they're going to call it a professional box they should offer more than 24" depth. Aside from that, like you said I had a pretty bad experience with a husky box warranty and the icon seems more appealing

I have had to assemble quite a few husky toolboxes at Home Depot and I can confirm they come off the truck damaged. It doesn’t help they skimp out on the thickness of their boxes too. I have noticed Husky likes to penny pinch where they can and as someone who has purchased quite a bit of husky tools and own that $998 box its disappointing to see. I also have a us general box I use every day and have been very happy with it as well.

No icon is around 6k to 8k. Even the US General is expensier than the husky box. I was in the market for a tool chest. And checked Icon, US General, and Husky. I would say same size and quality US General and Husky are about the same price. Icon looks nice and good quality, but they sell the stainless steel separately. I got the one in this video used for 700 dollars. Currently they go for 1700.l to 2000 dollars. I say buy a used one. Usually people who buy these boxes are tool.collectors. The used boxes are in great shape.

I’ve had my Husky box for a few years now, and I must admit, it has held up mostly… My main drawer weight well-exceeds the required limit, but it works. Yes. While I found some minor damage, the box is well-built. I’ve had it for a couple of years now, and I don’t have any complaints. When I compare the Husky 80” to the US General box from @HarborFreight there’s really no contest. More space overall, proper height which is imperative and the drawers are deep. The USG3 missed the mark on several features, in addition to being more expensive and you get less space/features.

Thank you for pointing out all the reasons that your box cost less than half of what the professional box cost. Husky pro $3500, Husky Home owner grade $1250 . Tool truck boxes in 72 inch start at 10K and go to 20k. How can you even begun to compare a home owner husky box to a Husky professions box? In all of life, you get what you pay for. looks like $20k in tools and a $1200 box.
@MidwestToolReview
@MidwestToolReview Жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right…have you seen the Husky professional box…it’s complete shit and it offers smaller drawers and less work space..it isn’t even on-par with any professional series box like Snap-on, MAC or Cornwell or even the Icon. Yes I have nearly $75k in tools, stored in a 1200 box. You’re an idiot if you did the opposite and this is why people are broke…look like you know something because of your man purse toolbox, but turning a cheap ass off shore wrench…c’mon…
@jaywelker5566
@jaywelker5566 8 ай бұрын
"In all of life, you get what you pay for." to an extent. Because I'll tell you right now sometimes mindlessly throwing money at things can definitely get you worse products too. Just look at a tool truck brand cordless power tool platform for evidence of that. SnapOn will sell you a mid-torque wrench 2x the size of an M12 stubby, 2-3x the price with worse performance and a worse warranty long-term. Matco will be killing their cordless power tool line off within the next year or two and they'll just push Milwaukee instead. Investing into some cheapo battery platform HF pushes and then abandons is one thing, investing a ton into a tool truck brand power tool that goes down the shitter is a whole other level of bad and that reflects on the intelligence of the person who puts up with that kind of abuse thinking they can just throw money at something expensive and get the best products or treatment. At least Mac brand tools are compatible with Dewalt or are basically just Dewalt reskins, so that's a lot better than the other 2 straight off the bat because Dewalt is actually a good battery platform to get into unlike Matco or SnapOn. What does somebody get throwing money at a more expensive product in these cases? They get themselves thoroughly bent. May as well light money on fire because the warmth it generates is more useful than throwing it away on a hand tool company that tries and fails to make overpriced power tools. I'd definitely say this applies to toolboxes to an extent too. You really won't get anything spending more on a heritage or classic series SnapOn vs an Icon or a ToolVault. You'll get a lighter duty box with maybe even a lot less storage space, that's all.

Damn dude, all you did was complain. It seems like you are a pro level tech due to the amount of tools you have but here is my issue with you; You bought a lower level box not a higher end box. You don't need to get a SO or Matco box for quality. Look into Montezuma Elite Box & Hutch. Husky is for a lower level tech or a home owner, not for a 40 year career as a tech. You need to be more realistic

Incorrect. Just because someone is a professional mechanic and not a lube bitch doesn't mean shit. You wanna spend 10 years paying off a 15000$ tool box that you may not even have in 5? Or would you rather buy something outright, deal with the flaws and kinks and be done with it? It boils down to preference, how smart you are with money and finances in the long term, and what you really expect to get out of the deal. You want to get raped by a tool truck go buy snap on and matco shit. All you pay for is the name.
