Husqvarna 120i Review
I had the opportunity to use and review the Husqvarna 120i XP battery powered chainsaw. Don't let the fact that this unit is battery powered fool you! It really is a terrible tool. This saw performed very poorly. The power of the 36 volt Li-Ion batterie and feature Husqvarna's own brushless electric motors, is ok when the saw is running and not tripping off because of the control board. The battery powered saw is not even good for clear trail. I would not reco0mnet this saw to anyone!

I am not a pro. I am a home owner and have used this to fell a number of small (8-10") trees and cut them up. This saw has worked really well for me with no issues whatsoever. Battery life has been excellent using the battery that came stock with the saw. Tensioner feels like it's a little weak but it hasn't broken yet. The oiler works great and because I leave the battery out of the saw when not in use, it doesn't leak. Overall I give this saw 5 stars for home owner use.

I think my friend you were expecting too much out of this product, I have one and have done everything you have shown without issue. I let the saw do the work and was pretty impressed with it, its not something you can bull and jam with and I was surprised that you were dumping on it out of the box. I was on the fence with this one or a Stihl but after using this one being 100 bucks cheaper than the Stihl its a good value is used correctly. Also try not to get angry in you reviews, Good luck in the future.

I've had one of these saws for three years. I love it. Ideal for lightweight work around the smallholding. Maximum 6 inches depth of cut. Same battery fits my hedge cutter and high reach polesaw. It's the wrong saw for what you are trying to do.

How long does the citan battery last? After what time did it lose capacity? How do you assess its flaws? At the same price is available saw: cordless saw PARKSIDE 40V " PKSA 40-Li A2 but with 8AH batteries. I'm hesitating between the brand and the larger battery. Or maybe expand it yourself in Husqvarna?

No no no. Essentially you are trying to take a Ford Fiesta and go rock crawling with it. If you want to review this saw, review it as it was intended to be used. The 120i is literally called a "casual saw" ment for backyard trimming.

The test is a little bit unfair. If overforced, the electronic disconnects the battery. This is good to protect the winding of the motor. The Saw is not constructed to bring down 20-inch logs. With this log small gas saws would have their problems, too.

I have gas, corded electric and battery electric chainsaws, there is a learning curve to using each one. You can't push the electric saws like you would a gas saw. Your saw will cut that large of a tree, but you have to go slow. I've cut trees that large with an 18V chainsaw.

Happy with my Milwaukee and a 8.0 battery for a truck saw, MS362/MS461 for the work saws. The bar/chain tensioning system on that Husky is beyond silly (if you can't figure out how to use a bar wrench you have no business running a saw). I sure would expect more from one of the two best chainsaw companies. Great review.

I thought I’d never own one too but I got this saw and I have no regrets. This is a savage little beastie. I have a problem with glossy buckthorn in parts of my forest and this saw has revolutionized my efforts to control this invasive tree. My big saws are wonderful for the big trees but why lug around a big saw if you don’t need to. I can take down a groove of buckthorn in no time flat and I still have charge and energy to break it all down afterwards.

One thing I've learned about cordless saws is you cannot force them 💪 I just purchased a 20 volt hyper tough chainsaw and the 40 volt also and both of them are tough-as-nails and work quite well 💪💯

Daniel, I have to say your review of this product is terrible. I'm sure Husqvarnas first gas powered chain saw was not the greatest, but over hand cutting it was a great improvement. With time the engineers got better and have produced some fantastic gas powered models, I have the 550XP and the things a beast, it revs like 10,000rpm's and will do most tasks I ask of it. So with time the electric models will get better, it's certainly unfair to compare to a gas powered model IMO. Your mind was made up from the get go on this product. The electrical connection plug is a proven design very similar to an Anderson plug which has been around for many years, used extensively in Australia, very reliable. You failed to show any Pro's for this unit, one being that you don't have gas to deal with, second, you don't have to deal with bad gas plugging the engine, third how easy to start this thing. Elon Musk is right, we are in a sinking ship and he has a better bucket, that's why he open sources his battery designs. Just like the first gas powered chainsaw the electric ones will get better. I have been a subscriber for your channel for a while and I don't normally comment. I don't hear you saying your camper trailer is a piece of crap, which I think it is, the wiring looks like a birds nest waiting for a fire to happen. The trailer is 30 years behind what the Australia's are producing, they hot dip galvanize the metal frame's they have independent suspension and wait they even have a hand brake you can apply before you unhook it so it doesn't roll away. I cannot find one North American model that even comes close unless you buy an Australian built unit. Google Black Series Campers & Patriot Campers and look at their build quality, again nothing in North America that even comes close. I have never ever given a thumbs down on youtube before but you get my first.

It's not a gas saw. I have one and if you don't reef on it the battery lasts and it cuts a lot of wood. They also have a battery dock but you bought the base model. I use all my tools to the fullest of their capacity and it has not let me down in over 2 years. Ps you should have gone to your local saw shop and bought one. You would have been given some direction that would have gone a long way. And service . I normally like all your videos but not so much this one. Hopeful for the next installment.

I would eventually like to get an electric saw for all of that minor property maintenance. There comes a time where mixing gas and warming up a saw is enough effort that it dissuades you from doing the chores you have in front of you. If the chainsaw companies would just have licensed battery tech from another tool company, they probably would have come out ahead.

I've used this 120i on many smaller size trees very successfully. Batteries last quite a while too. It works very well with a sharp chain and by using plastic wedges to keep the chain from binding. In my opinion, the most important feature of electric chainsaws is the great margin of safety they provide. I've seen quite a few videos on electric chainsaws but don't recall anyone mentioning this fact. Finger off the trigger and it's off. That simple, that safe! I find the 120i infinitely safer than any gas models. This fact alone justifies the price and should be a considered purchase for the homeowner or occasional user. Professionals may scoff at electric but many professionals have been seriously hurt or killed with gas units.

Hope you and your family are well. I know you bought it online. If you bought it a dealership you would of had hands on service with the warranty and probably a replacement for the saw I'm sure you can get service online but they out source it, sounds like a hassle. I'm not bashing your video, we seen what happened. I just don't know if switching to another brand is going to help. Its the luck of the draw. Stihl , Echo and all the power tool companies make a great battery powered saw. My aunt and uncle just bought me this particular model. I don't know if they're going to ship it to me or I wait to go see them after this Coronavirus has subsided. If I do have problems similar to that of yours, I'm taking it to my dealer. I hope you replaced the saw with the same model or a different brand you're happy with. I'm very happy with my older 340 and 350 gas saws and my various Husqvarna yard tools. Its just unfortunate you had a "lemon".

Not one has my 30 year old Stihl gas saw ever bliped a flashy light at me - it just gets it done. I do think these battery saws have their place in construction or trimming (and maybe 8 inch or smaller trees) but for me its the small.cheap DeWalt 20v small saw is just for small work. Else I have a small 30 year old Stihl 021 or an 10+ year old Echo 68cc saw for real work,

@@nathanduckeorth806 I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss battery powered tools. Don't get me wrong, I love my petroleum powered equipment and vehicles but there is a reason why so many prestigious traditionally companies - Mercedes, Caterpillar, Volvo, John Deere - are switching from ICE (Internal Combustion Engines) to battery / hybrid technology. Electric technology offers instant torque, reduced noise (I bought my first battery powered saw so I could trim up firewood at 3-4 am without disturbing my neighbors down the lane), increased reliability with fewer parts and lower maintenance costs, not to mention the synergy potential (automation and connectivity). Like I said, I'm going to be running my MS361 & 660 for many years to come but my battery powered Husqvarna's have their place

It's actually a great product, but not intended for the work that Daniel performed. He is testing it with professional grade chainsaws in mind, and for that, Husqvarna has a whole line of professional level equipment. The 120i is an excellent chainsaw for suburban homeowner use. Husqvarna has great quality control (I own an entire line of battery-powered Husqvarna products), but there have been some issues reported with the consumer-level BLi10 and BLi20 batteries. The units themselves are excellent otherwise.

Actually it's cutting performance is great, but those emergency stops are really annoying. I was able to make aprox. 15 cuts in 12-13 inch dry pine log, but it was constantly stopping and stopping. Will try to switch from 14" to 12" bar and from 1.3mm deep teeth chain to 1.1mm and give another chance for it.

Why don't you try the 536i XP (or the 540i XP for that matter, but that was not available at the time of your review) that would be a closer match to your application? The tool is not the fool here.

Batteries for these are junk. I thought it was excellent at first but it Didn't even make it through one chain. Cut a few small trees and limbed some of them to go through the wood chipper & a small wood pile for BBQing. Cut some oak boards for fencing & a few other boards for building a floor in a chicken coop. Cut a few saplings. Chain only actually went bad because i hit nails and had to keep resharpening. First battery just died and refused to charge. Second one is losing power. Died today on a full charge after cutting a single cut on a half rotten 15 inch log. Absolute trash and the batteries are like 200 bucks now. And Husqvarna refuses to warranty any of them over 12 months old.
