Excellent video. I decided to change my hydro oil after I discovered my hydro cross brace and 3 of 6 hydro brackets had failed. Very easy to follow. I used Amsoil 20W50 hydro fluid (which was recommended for my Hustler SD).

Excellent video. I have a 2008 Dixie Chopper with ZT--2800 Hydro Gears. The local mower shop wanted $175 to change the fluid in them. I followed this video (almost) to the letter. However, I did jack the mower up, put two jack stands under it, and removed the wheels (About a 30 second job with an impact wrench) for easier access. The vent bolts needed a 1/4 in Allen wrench to be removed. they were really tight so had to use a short bar (A deep socket) on the Allen wrench. The filters were also extremely tight as they were the factory installed filters (The mower has 200 hours and the fluid was quite dark. It ws supposed to be changed at 100 hrs). but other than that pretty much the same. I'm 72 years old, so took me a little longer than 45 minutes for the whole job! Thanks so much for the video

I bought my mower used from the previous home owner and with about 430 hours on it now decided to do the hydro oil and filter change. Your video made it easy, well easier anyway. My overflow plugs were 1/4" allen heads and a real bear to get to, but I had some allen socket heads that saved the day. I was pleased to see the old oil pretty clean. Also, maybe I missed it, but I had to either jumper my seat out or sit on it to do the purge, otherwise the motor died when I took it out of park. Thanks again for your help!

Thank you for the video, about 140 hrs in with my raptor, and the other day the pneumatic tube that the adjusting bars screw into fell off on the right side... stared moving real fast on one side! -- easy screw back in... but then a day later, after about an hour the machine slowed way down. When I was blowing off the grass to put in the garage he wouldn't move at all, but then slowly something kicked in and it moved into the garage. No idea what it is, didn't look last night, but just watching your video's given me a lot of info on what to look at. Bought two filters too, and I'll get the mobile next time I'm in town. Thanks again! Now to go see what it might be...

@577buttfan5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man,after seeing how clean the oil came out I don't have any concerns,also pumps have zero combustion carbon like an engine so oil doesn't get contaminated as bad..if at all maybe some minor metal shavings.

Excellent video!! Couple questions.....Just bought a 60" Hustler Raptor SD with The Kawasaki motor. Are you saying in your intro that hustler says to use conventional 20/50 but they use 15/50 synthetic in their commercial line? Do they use the same hydros in their commercial line? Also, have you found that the hour meter counts time when the ignition is left on and the engine is not running?? Also, do you think the Hustler have more slop in the belts running vrs other zero turn mowers? Thanks in advance!!
@577buttfan5 жыл бұрын
Hustler uses synthetic in their commercial line and the pumps are bigger but same material,I been using synthetic in them for over 200 hours no issues,dealer also said it was fine,yes the hour meter clocks with key on,I changed mine out to a Husqvarna meter and i believe it doesn't now,no the belts are snug on this machine but the tensioner, spring is known to break and the clips that connect it to deck from normal wear.

I purchased the 2017 model 60" raptor sd last year. after throwing and cutting two drive belts I was informed by a local dealer that the raptors have a problem with the bolts that hold the hydro drives to the mower(1 on front and rear of each drive) bolts loosen or shear off causing pumps to tilt and throw the belt. best to check tightness every few mows. also they have a newer updated bracket available that bridges(supports) the drives together! taking mine to get bolts and bracket replaced by Hustler. Just FYI

@577buttfan6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man!! This job would take the average joe about 45 minutes,only reason being the oil moves so slow from the reservoir into the pumps and it was a hot day. as for towing,I know of a guy who towed a bagger behind a mower with identical pumps for 1400 hours so you should be good to go.Just don't go crazy up and down hills :)

Instead of removing those impossible vent plugs I used a hand vac to fill the system, similar to vacuum filling a cooling or brake system. I filled the overflow tank with my M1, put my vacuum over the neck, and pulled enough air out to slightly dimple in the sides of the tank and to hear a few glugs of air being drawn up though the hoses and into the tank. then remove the vacuum and woosh.... the fluid in the tank gets sucks into the transmissions. Fill the tank again and repeat. It took about 6 cycles of this and the hydros were full.

I have a question not directly related to the fluid replacement that I was curious if you would know the answer too. My mower has always veered a little to the left and backed to the right if I have both levels all the way forward or backwards, respectively. However, after the transmission change it seems a little more prevalent than before. The only think I did differnet from you is my left top port to the transmissions bold was an allen wrench so it was hard to access. In order to get to it I unscrewed underneath the seat the rod that attaches to the back part onf the lever (think called the damper rod) so it would lie down some and allow me to get access to the port. Everything sounds normal when running but I didn’t know if there is some type of adjustment I can do or is this the expected pattern of mowing for a zero-turn. Roughly what the spacing is from the front end if I want it to go straight when fully engaged forward is the left handle fully forward and the right handle is hy roughly 1/8-1/4 of an inch from all the way forward

Been jumping through videos for info on the hour meter "oil hourglass". Can it be reset for each engine oil change? (yep, I know I'm on a vid. for the hydro change).

Just brought a hustler lie yours and it was pulling hard to the right after looking into it discovered the the drive straight bracket the the levers Connect has the top bolt and the the side bolt.. well my left one is gone so the right stop just about a 1/8”-1/4” from the frame and then the left goes all the way to the frame so it goes a little further than the right one. If I take the right bracket off it cause any problems?
@577buttfan4 жыл бұрын
You can try I'm not sure,I had to grind away some of my frame so the levers would travel all the way,but that was from worn out parts as I have over 600 hours on mine.

I own a Hustler Raptor. Will this same procedure work for my mower. Thanks. Great video.
@577buttfan4 жыл бұрын
If it's an SD then yes but the standard raptor doesn't have serviceable pumps.

I see it’s been a while jus hoping for a comment back. I following this video to the second with my mower it’s a fast trak. Used mobile one and everything, only thing is when I put the mower on the ground the left wheel will not move. And I have checked the valve multiple times. Should I add more oil?

Only if your reservoir is empty.Jack the mower back up and keep doing the bleeding process making sure the reservoir never goes empty and sucks air :)

How often do you change your hydro fluid and filters?
@DrGranneman6 жыл бұрын
2 questions.1) what happens if u run with oil reserve too low and it sucks air into system2) when replacing plugs do u tighten first one when it drops only out of it or do u wait until dripping out of both before tightening first one
@DrGranneman6 жыл бұрын
I bought filter a couple of years ago for this and they are Stens 120-738. Have you heard much about this brand? Want to make sure not to install something that isn't known to be very good

Is the hydro ome for hustler or is it a product like sten

hey 577 Jersey watch your video loved it on hydrostatic fluid change out my mower is very sluggish now just like before I change the hydrostatic oil do you have any comments on that
@577buttfan5 жыл бұрын
What kind of mower is it,how many hours on it,when you say sluggish do you mean the hydros are not spinning the right speed,could be bad hydros but i doubt it,I would check and make sure your linkage travels all the way forward in fast position could be a linkage issue too..sorry thats all i got for ya now.

Hey is there anyway you could do a throttle cable adjustment video? I start out with mine a full throttle, and as I'm mowing it starts to slip down on rpm? Walter Jones Lebanon Tn

at how many hours would you do the first hydro fluid change? Thnx
@577buttfan Жыл бұрын
Think the manual says 75 first and every 250 after unless you use mobile one then i would do 500.

Only found one 1/16 vent on right side is it possible the left; s an allen type left hydro won't pull , so both have to flushed or air released ? Suggestions
@577buttfan2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what your doing..is this an SD model! I think I heard of then using Allen types once before but not one of each and they are larger than 1/16.
@53mjackson2 жыл бұрын
@@577buttfan right side is 11/16 sounds crazy but the left appears to be an allen ! I have seen where others have seen they have a 1/4 allen . I am going to look at it again but could not find an 11/16 where it was on opposite side. So I ask you if I remove the allen screw , operate drive controls and purge air from left , should my machine pull . Thanks for your help

@@53mjackson oh okay yeah you just got to get that overflow plug out of there and fill it till it comes out like I showed and then do the purging method you may have to purge it multiple times sometimes the air gets trapped in there and it can be a little tricky
