He seems like a gentle and kind man who had dedicated a large portion of his life to these questions. The conclusion was infused with the compassion and the love that alludes to the attributes of a loving God and not the harsh, embittered tone of a fundamentalist or a legalist. R.I.P. Huston. Hope to see you someday on the other side.

What a marshmallow, ambiguous comment. Yeah we just want a nice lovable cosmic Santa Claus idea of God at the end of the day. Why even believe in God? Why even believe in the Bible whether it be the old testament with all of its judgmental images of God or Jesus himself in the New testament time and time again referring to the judgment of God? Why not just believe in some kind of vast cosmic lovey-dovey reality? Why bother with the rest of it, God or the Bible?

@@MFJoneser I can see that you felt that EasternTriad's comment here held something endearing to you personally. Try to get past your own "Beautifully observed" comment. Atheism is on the rise and people have some hard questions about having such a "loving God" alongside the enormous suffering going on in the world. Did you miss that in the message of my comment? Well now you know. P.s. I'm not personally an atheist, but I respect their questions and their reservations about such a loving God. Yes they are hard questions concerning such a God and the Bible, but they are honest questions. Is that enough reflection for you?

Being a person of Asian descent and an avid follower of this channel, I would like Lawrence Kuhn to also speak to persons of Eastern spiritual backgrounds or leanings. I am sure there are a handful of Chinese, Japanese and Indian scientists who also have spiritual inclinations. There would probably be others, like myself, who are keen on hearing what those notable people have to say about the nature of our reality. It would certainly lend variety in perspective to the otherwise mostly western/occidental way of thinking that this channel presents.

CTT is presenting more than 20 in-depth interviews and panel discussions on diverse traditions, including African religions, Buddhism, Hinduism (Vedanta), Islam, Jain, Judaism, Shinto, Zoroastrianism, and other traditions (listed alphabetically), as well as Christianity in dialogue. We associate judgement with vengeance, then attribute God with the same association. God doesn’t judge this way, as your comment suggests. However, while we sleep, God offers His Judgement to replace the hateful form we’ve grown accustom to: This is God’s Final Judgment: “You are still My holy Son, forever innocent, forever loving and forever loved, as limitless as your Creator, and completely changeless and forever pure. ²Therefore awaken and return to Me. ³I am your Father and you are My Son.” ~ACIM W-pII.10.5:1-3

_"God loves."_ God raped ("overshadowed") Mary while she was engaged to Joseph and while God was married to Asherah, Aholah and Aholibah (who were sisters). God's sons also "ravished" human females and impregnated them. God sent one of his representatives to tell Mary, that even though she was engaged to Joseph and frightened by the encounter, that God would impregnate her. The Bible uses the word "overshadow", which is the Greek word, "επισκιάζω" (episkiazó). Some Christians interpret "overshadow" to mean that some sort of mystical cloud or divine wind hovered over Mary and then she became pregnant. But the literal translation of the word is, "to overshadow, to use influence upon by a looming presence (skiá)" and figuratively means "to invest with preternatural (extraordinary, exceeding what is normal) influence". So, the "overshadowing" was God using what the Bible describes as the "extraordinary" coercion of his greater power and status to dominate and overpower Mary's desires and will by forcing his own desire to force unwanted sexual contact from frightened Mary with the intent of impregnating her. The word Mary uses to accept the command to be impregnated is "ginomai", which means "let it not be, far be it from, God forbid". In Mary's praise and thanksgiving to God in Luke 1:48 she says, “God has lifted up his humble maidservant.” The Greek word for “humble” is the same one that the Septuagint (the old Greek version of the Hebrew Bible) uses to describe the rape of Dinah in Genesis and other incidents of sexual violation.

You talk to Christians and Muslims, but their books (and monotheism) come from the Torah! Why not go to the actual source? Sometimes the opinions on G-D expressed here are not in line with the original text at all. There would be less confusion if you went with the original text and tradition. The Kabbalists could provide profound insight.

Damsels in distress hoping for the Knight in shining armor to come save them The life that God created for us - this world, this earth and this life is not easy is it? Nothing is free, nothing is given - once adults we have to learn to stand on our own two feet, make a living, face the world & if stale bread is all we can afford, that is what we eat The good things in life have to be worked for, sacrificed for, deal with setbacks But the weak, the lazy & the coward have no stomach for it - some turn to crime Others turn to the likes of cruel Dictators like Putin, Saddam - support them unconditionally and are GIVEN the easy good life Others become prostitutes/gigolos/leeches/freeloaders - look around for a rich Sugar Daddy to GIVE them a life of ease & comfort THESE PEOPLE ARE SAVED FROM HAVING TO WORK, HAVING TO FACE THE WORLD & ITS PROBLEMS. They live the good life in a bubble, do no work, just sit around enjoying the good life while their Sugar Daddy keeps them in comfort This is what Religions exploit - they have parked Sugar Daddy Gods in the sky - get down on our knees, beg, grovel and he will be pleased and GIVE us that easy lazy life of ease & comfort We won't have to work anymore - we will live in a nice Retirement Home forever! No work, no worries - free food, shelter, protection and care! No more worrying about climate change, discrimination, poverty, evil people, disease - we get to live in a nice bubble And meanwhile down below our families are homeless, our children are going to bed hungry, our country is at war or suffering - we don't care anymore! @Indian Tiger the Bible states that we are not of this world, in fact those are Jesus Christ words. King David committed adultery and then sent Uriah to the front of the line where the fighting was the fiercest so he would die so he basically killed him committed murder also. David wrote Psalm 22 which is a prophecy of Jesus Christ. And really should we be pushing for a cursed humanity and not pushing for God to set up his kingdom? and helping to find those who want to follow after; to go along to his kingdom. I don't think we should be doubting his kingdom. I'm positive of it I am sure of it my faith which is belief and trust reside in it through Jesus Christ.

If we don't know and don't care as to where we came from, why the heck are we so concerned and analytical about where we are headed?!! In my view all that we need to care about is this moment! That's all we have.. and how to live it in a way that benefits other human beings..as jesus just summed it up in one statement "do unto others what you would have them do unto you".. the rest (where we are headed) will sort itself out automatically..

Can't believe that even with all our education and intelligence we still think in terms of reward & punishment. Punishment is not Justice, it is Vengeance Some drunk guy drives over your fence or property. The judge gives you 2 options 1. Take your car and drive over his property 2. Have the guy pay for your damage, set things right The first is Vengeance - two wrongs make a right - the uncivilized way of doing things The second is Justice - the civilized way of doing things - the right way that benefits the victim How does torturing a person in hell help his victims? So the likes of Madoff and Hitler are being tortured in hell? So how does that help their victims who are suffering? Those who lost their families, loved ones under Hitler? Those who lost their life savings because of Madoff and had to live in poverty and die an early death? So we see how primitive these ideas of punishment/reward - hell/heaven - are! Hell is fair. It's simply letting each have their way forever. Those in hell want to be there and heaven would be tortuous for them. A truly wicked, unrepentant and selfish person would find intolerable a place where Love makes demands and is populated by unselfish, humble and charitable people that makes no room for evil. Love asks that you give up your pride and ego, find fulfillment in Love and serving others. The damned say "No" definitively and Love respects their free choice.

What would be the purpose of having any conscious being suffer for all eternity? The purpose of punishment in the first place is to change someone's mind. Hell is a disgusting and irrational ideology that is taught to little children who are then traumatized by it. It also isn't based in reality because libertarian free will is almost certainly an illusion. That doesn't remove accountability to change though. And that's where punishment comes in, a mechanism for change, albeit sometimes a very crude one. Don't you think that even Hitler, after suffering for 1,000 years in hell would have second thoughts about what he did? He may have even had some remorse seeing as he killed himself. And what about psychopaths and sociopaths who have no capacity for empathy and therefore no feeling of good or evil? It's incoherent.

Yes exactly. I think the entire intuition for retribution is derived from an incorrect assumption. We project our moral observations onto another person and think "I would never do that! How disgusting" when the other person is incapable of seeing it that way, at least for the moment. Even without free will, the key is holding the other person accountable to change. "Punishment" in various different forms CAN achieve this, but it isn't always the best. For example, punishment likely wouldn't help the murderer who killed due to trauma.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; and had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: on the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. My entirely unsubstantiated conjecture on why a god is not required to pass judgement revolves around the notion of nonlocality of self (QM), & the relationship between individual personality (self) & culture. We are all products of our culture to an extent that most people don't realize. We share not just language, but also accents, thoughts, motives & beliefs. When we die, we reincarnate with the union of new sperm, egg & DNA, elsewhere in the universe, to new parents who are products of our new culture. We also share our new parents' DNA. Entangled DNA is the vehicle of reincarnation, & rebirth into our new culture is rebirth into the heaven/hell of our choosing. We get what we deserve, no god required. This interpretation of culture fits nicely with the Hindu notion of karma. Do we see what is happening with the crazy in western cultures? How we engage with our culture establishes the trajectory for our rebirth. Our trajectory is of our choosing. Culture = Karma.

Life is a Gift But some find this life too harsh, too difficult and religions exploit such people with tales of easy living in Heaven but only if you convert to their religion, using the carrot of eternal pleasures of the flesh to push conversions And amazingly this trick works even against the best of minds! You are right about the heaven/hell of our choosing - since these people find human life a bit too hot for them to handle & they want the easy lazy life in heaven - they will be reborn as Dogs - lower life forms - as Dogs they will get free food, shelter, protection and care - no work, no worries - they will get their Heaven but don't realize they are but dogs!

People are not ready to think on their own, to make decisions on their own, to be the owner of their minds, to be free, to be balanced, it might take another 100 years if not a prophet shows up and starts all over again. Dont forget human minds are weak.

@@owencampbell4947 Yes but I see few people speaking up it seems I am the only one asking questions & that is all we need to do Questions like 1. What does one DO in Heaven? Billions get to sit about doing nothing? How does that make any sense? 2. What about our loved ones down on earth? Could they be suffering/starving/sick/homeless? Do we forget about them? 3. What about Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists - are they to be the Jews in the afterlife, set apart based solely on belief & dumped into gas chambers in hell? Are these not human beings with loved ones? Children too? pregnant women too end up in gas chambers? It is this 2nd question that makes these "we will be enjoying all the pleasures of paradise because we kissed the right butt, you should too" people put ants in their pants They get uncomfortable saying they are having a good time while their family is suffering And guess what? NOT ONE MEDIA PERSON WILL ASK SUCH QUESTIONS! NOT THE EDUCATED, NOT THE MORAL AND NOT EVEN THE ATHEIST! Just amazing!

It is not God who will judge you. It is you, yourself, who is the sole judge of your soul's eternal fate by the choice that you freely make. This is really very simple, let me explain as follows : If you choose to live a life with God's grace, your soul could be welcomed back to your Original Home/Heaven. This can be achieved by having faith in a loving God applying your free will to choose.... ...but if you choose to live a life without God (which means without faith), your lost soul could not be welcomed Home but would return to a cold dark nothingness (hell), freezing for eternity. By the way, contrary to wnat many believe, hell is not really a Lake of Fire but a cold dark empty state - an absence of God who is all energy, all love, all wamth and comfort. The reason why many misinterpreted hell as a Lake of Fire is because lost souls who ended in this "state of nothingness" will relive and feel all the pains and sufferings that they caused on their neighbors, and their loud screams and cries can be heard as if they are burning in flames. Freezing in hell, your soul can be given another chance to reincarnate so to have the opportunity to be saved and to return Home through faith.... but if you fail, you again will return to hell because God can not force you Home. It has to be your own free choice to live with God's grace through your faith so to be saved. The painful loop of your soul's returning to hell and back to earth, and then back to hell again, will continue until you can choose to finally have faith in a loving God to be welcomed back Home/Heaven.

As far as the bible is concerned, I disagree. Even if I can certainly figure out that an infinite punishment does not seem commensurate with wicked actions that were instead finite in time, that is clearly and consistently stated in the bible. The reason is simply that one group of people may wish to maintain FOREVER a separation from another unwanted group of people, see for ex. "Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. The one who will accuse you is MOSES, in whom you trust.". Thus - as claimed in the bible - it's logical that a separation into different groups will be made and this separation will remain forever. The very fact of belonging to a group that is scum will directly result for a concerned person in an endless hellish existence.
