Great video, but I would hate if that ugly caulking job was on my system. Maybe use clear caulk or find a cleaner way to seal that up.
@randman9754 жыл бұрын
Right, I would have turned that connector so the caulk side was facing away from the entrance to the mechanical room at the very least. Also would have used clear silicone with canvas staples.
@neilcomparetto52824 жыл бұрын
It’s getting insulated.

Nice job, but you should have put the caulked seam to the rear so it was not showing.
@deviouslick50974 жыл бұрын
You could also use canvas tape to seal instead of using caulking.

Do you guys like canvas or is it better to go with hard metal all the way. I have a canvas one now. I'm doing a whole change out and can re-do it similar or different. ideas? and why
@draketattoo4 жыл бұрын
Why not use a canvas staple instead of screws.
@neilcomparetto52824 жыл бұрын
Brandon Drake you can, just not something I carry.

We always used contact adhesive for the canvas lap, like what you use on Armaflex and then staples to help hold it too...it was fast and Waaay less messy than caulk. You say leak free...looks like you S cleats were a bit too short and you will have much more leakage on those corners with a short S, than you will ever have at the canvas seam. Put a dab of that caulk in the corner before you bend that drive over and you WILL have a leak free canvas connector. Just sayin.. other than that nice work.

What if you have 2 different sized ducts to connect?

Looks good. But I would have used black caulk if I was going to have a bead showing.

Awesome. Thanx for the vid. The jerks who installed my furnace/ductwork did not install this & all the noise from the furnace now gets transmitted mechanically to the floor joices. Wanna come to my house to install one? Come on...it only took 7:42.
@condorman264 жыл бұрын
You can do all that sealing up internally so it doesn't look so nasty... Other than that looks good.

Hopefully in a customer's home you put that caulked joint to the rear/less visible side!!!!

Me talking to my boss What's up boss How is it going Going good just waiting for the air tight canvass to dry. What?!?!🤢 what do you mean dry? Didnt you ever hear of metal tape...pack up your tools ill have the kid finish the metal.. Lol
@miguelespino60876 ай бұрын
What is that tape called
@troywood56864 жыл бұрын
With that tape it doesn't seem like you need caulk at all and definitely not the screws in the canvas. That should be airtight though.
@troywood56864 жыл бұрын
Except the slip and drive joints.

So what are the benefits of using a canvas connector?
@Jamie-po9zk4 жыл бұрын
I believe it reduces vibration throughout the ductwork.
@draketattoo4 жыл бұрын
Vibration isolation through ductwork is required through smacna
@yepper11652 жыл бұрын
Also in some areas, like Denver, the basement floors move a little with seasonal changes so it allows for that movement to not wreck the ductwork.

Everything is good except for the usage of Caulk. Now it is semiflexible.

I would have liked to show my student's this on remote learning, but there are too many problems I see. First, always use a speed square or Tee square don't measure down both sides if the end isn't cut right your corners will be crooked, and I like folding it the opposite way it looks so much more beautiful. Everyone should know always put the sealant on last, so you don't get it all over your hands and tools and use clear, not white on black canvas. Also, screws in the canvas, really?
@PaulHVAC12 жыл бұрын
I cannot believe a sheet metal mechanic would think a loose fold for the drive is acceptable... Perhaps this is not a journeyman SM mechanic
@dcordray632 жыл бұрын
The caulking could of been applied to the inside. It would of looked cleaner and no one would ever know.
@AdayintheLifeofsmith4 жыл бұрын
Not impressed. At least put the caulking to the back side where you don’t see it. Do I have to make a real video of how this is done?

I know you think that music is awesome, but.........👎 I think I would have hid that ugly caulk seem in the back. Good tutorial though.
