Thanks, they are SPECTACTULAR..... And so easy and reliable to grow too. Don't quite understand why you are not expecting it not to flower this year! Even our little, baby ones flower, so keep an eye on it, for you should shortly be seeing at least some buds on the tips. Stay tuned and if you haven't already think about subscribing to our channel because there's more videos on exciting new selections coming all the time. And if you are in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern USA region: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ check out the plants at some of our partnering garden centers because as you may have noticed in the video we send them nice, big, healthy, bushy and well-formed specimens that are usually in flower when they get them in - so you see what you are getting and get off to an extra good start.

David, I currently have a Quick Fire Fab and a Little Quick Fire that I planted last season, and they're doing great so far this spring. Now I'm looking for a hydrangea that's low maintenance, compact, and soil adaptable like the Tidbit but earlier blooming. In your opinion which of the hydrangea varieties fits that bill? Maybe tge Endless Summer varieties?
@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries Жыл бұрын
That's easy, the Endless Summer varieties (especially Summer Crush and Bloomstruck) would fit the bill, BUT, if you like the panicle types and want early.... I mean early, then you have to look at Early Evolution - it is very HARDY, EARLY, is adaptable to different soil types, easy to grow, and needs very little maintenance!😉😁👏 Here's what I am talking about: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hrKagtqrrrfSYIE.html Don't forget to click the "like" button on this or any of our other videos that you find useful, it helps other people discover the information too.

@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments. In our nursery, these varieties were pruned a second time. And as you've noticed this technique works well for us. Quite a few of the more recently introduced selections (like these ones) are better at taking on pink and even red shades, especially in more northerly climates where they get cooler summer night temperatures. So the chances are that they may not need the second trim, but you always have this at your disposal should you need it. We are wondering, have you subscribed to our channel yet? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing because once you are subscribed each time we post a new video, it will turn up automatically in your feed. David, did you mean to say to prune this Hydrangea “hard” in the early Spring? I have been seeing much info about pruning Paniculata Hydrangeas and all say to prune no more than 1/3.
@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. The general "rule of thumb" is to prune them back by about a 1/3 (and that's a good starting point if you are doing it for the first time), but as you will see and hear in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJyDh6ir2bPFcYU.html I tend to be a bit more aggressive than this, because I love to encourage big strong shoots and those gorgeous (extra large) flowers! Either way will be fine..., pruning them lighter will make them bushier and earlier flowering, whereas my more aggressive technique will usually make them a bit later in flowering and will result in stronger, thicker stems and larger blossoms. If you have more than one plant you might want to experiment and see which is best for you. Experienced gardeners tend to confidently take them back harder, so I suppose you have to try it and see what works best for you. Bottom line, it is good to prune this type because they do perform better.

@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for a great question.... Here's what I suggest you think about doing. They are so beautiful at this time of year (late summer / early autumn), that I think it is really great to be able to enjoy them popped in (temporarily) in decorative pots (and watered of course) and then before the weather gets too cold planted out where they will grow and be enjoyed for many years into the future. The tops of the plants are really hardy (Zone 3) but the roots (which are used to being insulated under the ground) will freeze solid if left in the small soil volume pots. Fall is my favorite time for planting, the earth is moist and warm, it is easier to dig and the weather is very pleasant too, so it is a great time to enjoy them, and with a little nimble thinking you can get extra value that makes a nice addition to the usual straw bales, corn stalks and mums! Our autumns, have cooling weather but usually remain quite warm and pleasant, and this means you can get the get the most out of your plants. Just be sure to not leave them out of the ground too long, certainly well before any persistent freezing or really cold weather sets in.

That's unusual, normally they are very reliable and as you see from our video, flower prolifically. If this reoccurs, check the moisture level around the base of the plant, sometimes if this type of Hydrangea gets too dry in summer, it aborts the flower buds, it stays green and survives but does not flower, so this might be what is going on. Sometimes the competition from tree roots and other plants dries out the soil too, so you might have to supplement or renew the mulch layer and of course do some watering. Here's a link to another video (also on this channel) that will explain more about how to get the best from them: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLKhoKeAsra1eqc.html Also, have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. One of the incredible things about Panicle Hydrangeas is their amazing tolerance to both cold and heat which means that they can be grown over a very wide geographical area. Certainly well within the conditions typically encountered in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern States region: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ The general consensus seems to be that they can be grown in USDA Zones 3a-9. Although we hasten to add that since this is well outside our growing perimeters, we have no direct experiences at either end of these extremes.

The nursery name is "over-d-vest" and as you'll see from this link to our website: grownbyoverdevest.com/our-story/#our-story it hails from the Netherlands (birth place of our founders).
