When Katie said "gardens invite children...." my heart melted. She is so right and my 3.5 yr old grandson is proof of that. What an incredible gift to give to a child. Katie's garden and landscape is beautiful and so inviting. All the space is utilized but not 'overcooked'. Thank you, Janey.

What an amazing dry creek bed...it looks soooo natural!!! What a fabulous garden in every nook and cranny of her lot! That line of trees along the fence is stunning! She makes everything sound so easy and her mix of formal and casual is amazing....makes me believe anything is possible!

Verbena De La Mina have become a super favorite of mine. I’ve planted 5 at my parents’ as a border hedge and just planted 5 at my house. They’re a butterfly magnet, neat, and very drought tolerant. They bloom in the spring and if you trim them back a little after the blooms, you’ll get more in the summer. Also the California fuchsias are always a hit because again super drought tolerant, a ton of variety in the cultivars, they’re a summer/fall bloomer, and the scarlet red flower with the grey foliage is awesome!

Janet, head to laugh at your joy at the Annebelles burning. I so relate . I have two in large pots that I move and move, and tent and shade, and still they crip and turn brown.. but I cannot get rid of them. They are gorgeous for a short time

The person who unintentionally prompted me to be a better gardener was over and I showed her my spiral wildflower bed. She said in a strange tone oh it’s so cute and tiny. I have grown every year since and so has my garden btw. Janey and Jason ( now) and Laura and Aaron videos are truly beautiful inspiration. Thank you all for validating my garden philosophy of growing veg to have the “right” to grow flowers. Cuz I need the pollinators riiight?! Oh I also learned that from Casey Lawrence garden farm. I think her husband is Jason too. Mine is Allen 😊Too cute. He accepted when I offered to drive him to the local nursery to pick ten plants for being a father and he accepted. Bummer it was closed. He said there’s always tomorrow!!😁

a nearby park has a great display of purslane - also, a nearby wealthy city has purslane, etc down the center divider/median that leads to the coast [very pretty, indeed]. thank you. PS - interesting that the Western Blue bird box is hanging so low [due to wrens, etc.]

Thank you for sharing Katie's beautiful garden! There is such a feeling of intimacy, even just watching from a video. I love how each area of her garden holds special memories. That is totally my gardening style. I could definitely feel her emotional connection to her environment, and how it feeds her soul. You did a great job of letting her meander and share the stories behind her garden, Janey! Your enthusiasm is so engaging and always draws people in, making your videos very personal!! P.S. I live in Modesto, but I was unable to make it to The Greenery yesterday. I can't wait to hear all about it! xo

I believe it is the black swallowtail that loves parsley. I always find them on my dill as well 🐛🦋

I love the smaller garden tours. This is a beautiful garden. ♥️ The endless summer hydrangeas are the blushing bride variety. I have a few in my garden. Love them!! I’m located in the PNW, north of Seattle, and they burn for me a little too last year when we had a few days up in the high 80’s.

Thank you Janey and Katie! It inspires me to see your beautiful garden Katie! I'm in zone 9b So. Cal and I'm just becoming obsessed with gardening and changing my gravel yard to a garden. (I'm in a 55+ community and everyone has gravel yards - ugh!) Janey, other than no-till method do you have any recommendations for converting my yard?Slowly I am paying a handyman to pull out shrubs and replace gravel (6 in deep) with soil. It works but expensive. Janey, I hope the event at The Greenery was a success - sorry I couldn't come - I had the best time at the Park Winters Event! Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration!

It's so pretty. Yes, Janey you can grow hydrangeas in California 9b. I have several macrophylla hydrangeas in filtered and full shade. I also have lime light hydrangeas. I need to find some Annabelle!

Yay! I so needed to see this, zone 9 hot climate garden! I’ve been looking and looking for a tree that doesn’t have invasive roots and is still pretty and provides some shade. My backyard is like a desert and it’s blazing hot in the summer. Those lining the back fence are 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻. Thank you again, such a lovely garden!

Podocarpus trees are pretty versatile. They can also be planted closer together and trimmed as a hedge.

@@nickbono8 do you happen to know what kind that is (meaning, the kind without the berries the birds will make a mess with lol)? I live a half a block from a lake and am basically living in a bird’s paradise/wetland. I’m in Lakeport, CA a few hours west of Sac.

@@thewaywardirishican The plants are either male or female and I’ve read nurseries can’t tell if it’s one or the other because they are grown from seed. So it’s a toss up if you get berry producing trees or not.

It is the eastern black swallowtails that like parsley. They also like dill. Here in the west coast you might get an anise swallowtail on your parsley.
