Unboxing, reviewing, and setting up the all new Hygger Submersible LED Plant light. It's a very simple design. Hygger is notorious for their Lights and in most cases have designed some affordable lights that work well in low tech scenarios. I hope that they do release some much more powerful lights in the near future to accomodate for those of us with harder to grow plants.
As far as these particular lights, they would work great in growing many easy plants such as anubias, java fern, amazon swords, as well as any other low tech plant. You won't achieve the growth you would with a much brighter light, but you should still receive results. This light is neat as it is submersible which would make it effective as a background light. Being it is a submersible light, you can truly put it anywhere in the aquarium. This can allow you to hide the light behind decor and whatnot.
The controller itself could be better, I would much rather see remotes or bluetooth apps personally as they're much easier to control and adjust. As well as giving you a much more vast level of adjustability with LED lighting in general even outside aquarium use.
These lights would work best in shallow aquariums so you could achieve higher PAR ratings for better plant growth.
If compared to other similar lights such as the Fluval Flex 9 and 15 gallon lights, this light does not compare to the brightness of the Fluval lights as they can achieve almost double the PAR with the same Watt usage.
In my personal opinion, there are better options out there for lights if you would like to add higher quality plants to your hobby much like the ones I personally use in most of my videos.
Hygger does make great affordable products. This light is one of them. For the price it's not a bad product. Just don't expect to grow red plants, or some of the harder to grow plants largely available in our hobby.
