"An ancient scroll tells the story of a unlucky merchant who, after making a pact with a sinister Yokai, achieved fame and fortune, he even became the financial advisor of the imperial palace, but once he was on the top, the yokai collected his part of the deal, taking from him his fame, fortune and his sanity. The merchant now wanders aimlessly in search of someone who could give him back what he truly had lost: his freedom"

Trigger’s Yokai/historical figure database: Ningyō Shōnin The Ningyō Shōnin was a yokai said to take the form of a very short man, wearing a contradictory purple silk Kimono and ratty old straw hat. (The contradiction being purple dye being very expensive, whilst straw hats were typically warn by rice farmers, who were peasants.) if one looked closely they could also see faint green strings extending to the sky. This Yokai was often said to have strange speech patterns, its voice changing between words, often combining multiple words together, attempting to sell those it encountered random junk. The Ningyō Shōnin would often seek the souls of humans, believing it could make itself a successful merchant should it obtain one and cut its strings. One of the many origins for this yokai is the tale of a Merchant whom rose to have several Samurai and Daimyō as customers, even having one of the three great unifiers of Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, as his patron. His success being attributed to his dealings with Yokai, whom passed him letters with mercantile advice. However, his success soon quickly collapsed after he began selling bad goods to the Daimyō. Most tellings attributing a trusted Samurai of Hideyoshi’s death being caused by a sword the merchant sold him breaking. Infamous for his temper that also caused the death of Sen no Rikyu, Hideyoshi had the merchant boiled in oil in retribution. When Hideyoshi’s men searched the merchant’s home to repossess the lavish furnishings, they found the alleged letters from the yokai, containing nothing more than seemingly meaningless scribbles.

I love how you made him wear a purple robe, yet also wearing a farming hat. Purple robe was only worn by those who hold power and fame, yet in stories, those who wore these hats were usually of poor or lower class. The two contradicting elements perfectly fits here

It's fascinating how honestly the main focus of this video is the music, and yet looking at the comments it's clear the image just stole the show. And reading more and more comments making interpretations of every element, from japanese folklore to the purple clothing to the hat, I don't know how much of all this details were truly planned and thought out by the artist but it is certainly evocative if it causes everyone to get their own interpretation of it.

It means freedom. In the chapter 2, eventually Spamton couldn’t be a freedom and BIG SHOT. So, 自由 is the best thing he wanted. I appreciate you! Thank you for leading :-)

Once upon a time, there was an unfortunate merchant living in Japan. He looked like a short old man wearing glasses with purple and yellow glasses and smoking a small kiseru. He often carried a katana with him, on the handle of which the inscription [[FREEDOM]] was engraved. At that time, the merchant suffered constant setbacks. At the market, no one noticed his products at all. Market visitors paid no attention. But on the day when all the merchants came together, the unfortunate merchant said that someday he would become great - that one day he would be [[BIG SHOT]]. I have a feeling that if Spamton was part of Japanese folklore, he would be an oni disguised as an old man in need, trying to scam/manipulate people into helping him. His [BIG SHOGUN] form would have him being in a giant suit of Samurai armor he stole from a fallen warrior.

In Feudal Japan, merchants and salespeople were generally seen as the lowest class, as they were seeen as contributing the least to society. It's quite fitting for someone like Spamton, who is no BIG SHOT when we first meet him.

Not even sure what to say to this. It's left me speechless. The transitions are incredible, and the artwork is as well. Overall, ten out of five stars!
