After taking this car over 4000km down the east coast of Canada and back in the middle of winter, it's time to review Hyundai's IONIQ 5 EV.

@@factsmatter6980 did you mean this? 65% after 7 years. is that bad? Battery degradation test results The discharge test from about 100% to about 4% state-of-charge (SOC), down to the turtle mode, revealed a range of a bit over 100 km (62 miles) and energy consumption of 163 Wh/km (262 Wh/mile). According to Bjørn Nyland, it means that the car has available about 17 kWh, which is roughly 65% of the initial net battery capacity.

@@electricfamily7713 The money you would typically save from gas (especially with prices now) should be more than enough to get a replacement. I'm pretty sure the Tesla Model S costs roughly 14k for a battery replacement which isn't cheap but if you drive A LOT (full tank of gas every week) than it would be worth it imo.

We're just about at 5000 km with our Preferred RWD LR, and the biggest issues we have with it is the lack of forward facing parking sensors, side cameras. Driving wise, it's the perfect hwy car. It is sprung pretty well, but does wallow a bit over bigger bumps, soaking them up, but clearly being more on the comfy side than sporty. Range-wise, we've seen the same during the winter, but now that it's over 10C we're seeing in the 13-17kWh/100km, which pushes the range back towards 450ish total, and that's driving on 401/427/DVP.

Great review I have also ordered a Long Range AWD Ultimate should see it in Dec with luck. I have read that the 2023 can also be ordered with the 2nd rear facing camera which plays back into the interior mirror so that is Hyundai's answer to the lack of the rear wiper, I would also think there is already some software that could be used as the cars in the UK already have a rear facing camera that stays on while driving forward. We in Canada can only hope .

I didn't really like this design when I first saw it, but after seeing the NV74 (Hyundai's sexy 1974 Pony inspired rolling lab), this design has _really_ grown on me. Also, having a lighter colour for an interior option is nice for Southern Canadian summers. My current vehicle, a 2008 Honda Civic, gets turned into an oven when it's sunny out. Maybe the lighter colour will reduce the overall inside temperature. Currently, the AWD Long Range package is around $60000CAD. The price _should_ go down in a few years for future models due to the supply chain relaxing a little.

Android Auto has a "Game Snack" icon that allows you to play several nice games while the car is stopped (I personally like the puzzle type games). I have never installed this on my phone and was able to find it one day in my car, so I suppose it is a built-in app for Andoid Auto. Not sure if there is similar thing for Apple CarPlay.

Glad you had an overall good experience! I have been very happy with my SE AWD trim Ioniq 5. Agree on the frustration re: the cameras and rear wiper in bad weather... generally not a problem, but when it is, it is annoying. Still the best vehicle, EV or otherwise, that I have ever owned.

I've watched a few reviews of this new Ioniq 5, and yours is very informative and honest. But of all of those reviews I've come to the conclusion that the biggest mistake Hyundai made in designing this car is the lack of a rear window wiper. This car was evidently designed in California and not Canada. I currently own a Kia Stinger GT Limited (Canadian version) and to get the equivalent features with an Ioniq 5 (AWD and all the bells and whistles) I would have to get the Ultimate trim which would cost more than my Stinger.

You're absolutely right.If there's one single thing that Hyundai can do on the next model year of the Ioniq 5, its ADD A REAR WIPER
@Digikidthevoiceofreason
@Digikidthevoiceofreason Жыл бұрын
Sadly though Hyundai is still refusing to put a rear wiper on and still claiming that their rear spoiler design will clean the window for you, which has been debunked many many times now and is found to be false. Hopefully they will smarten the hell up soon.

I love watching car reviews, but most of them consists of speaking about how the exterior sucks (everybody can decide if they like the looks or not), but they only talk about the drivability of the vehicle in a nutshell, which is the whole point. But not you! If I have to guess, this is the best, the most comprehensive and the most demanding car review I've ever seen. Thank you so much for it!

My first job required me me to drive a small van, which had no rear window at all. You got by with just the wing mirrors. Even today ~30 years later I reverse with just my wing mirrors and the rear camera.

One thing I’d like to point out, vented seats means that just fans put ambient air thru it, ac/cooled seats means exactly that, cooler ac air goes thru them. Great car either way!

Hmm most car makers advertise vented seat as ac cooled seat... I have never heard of a car with vented seat that only blows ambient air...

I really like this and would love to embrace EVs. I like this more than the model3 or the polestar. This would be perfect if we were a family of four…I really can’t wait for companies to make an affordable and appealing option that could actually fit a family of 5.

Well it's nice to hear from a person who has a gigantic vehicle and actually needs it. Everyday I see a thousand giant pickup trucks with only a driver. And you can be guaranteed they would not be one to ride on the jeeping trails.

@@masonkanterbury3007 I wouldn’t say I have a gigantic vehicle, I currently have a Honda Pilot which is about as small as I can currently go given the family if 5 with some of them being kids in car seats. I miss the days when a civic was sufficient. But I agree, a ton of huge vehicles driving around hauling nothing but the owner’s ego.

We preordered one at the beginning of March and was told by the local dealership to expect delivery around October. Not sure if you have a similar ETA, but I can say that I did test drive one and was blown away by how good it was. As for charging, I expect the Ioniq 5 has not been added to certain of the networks. My understanding is that they have electronic identifiers that need to be added to the chargepoints for the full 350kw. I expect Petro Canada, Electrify Canada, among other have not updated their chargepoints with the Ioniq 5 electronic identifiers, capping the chargepoint at 150kw. I could be wrong though, but I bought it fully expecting the charging to get better over time. Great review and looking forward to seeing some videos of your own Ioniq 5!

@Shaun Guimond ... Pre-order number 30 in Canada ... ordered first day orders opened in June 2021 and waited and waited and waited ... picked it up early April 2022; 10 month wait. Don't be confused about the charging rate; no where does Hyundai state it can get 350KW charging. You need a 350 KW charger to have 225 - 230 KW charging rate, under perfect battery temps. Regardless, my Ultimate version is excellent. Cheers, Steve

Thanks for the review, we only have Ioniq 5 with affordable price in Indonesia since Hyundai build the factory here. Tesla is far too expensive and no dealership only importer.

Same experiences here, very accurate review. We have an RWD 220HP 77kWh on the 20 inch alloys. I do about 40 miles of highway driving every day and in winter (around 0 to 5 degrees C here) I got around 310-320km of range and now in spring with temperatures around 15 C it's getting up to 350km. The highway driving assist is very good, but it can be very dangerous too for example when you take a swoopy exit and it lets go mid-corner and fires you straight at the barrier rails without warning. But overall it's just such a practical car, so much space for our kid in the back, large trunk, very comfy, accelerates fast if you need it to, corners nicely... And it looks great!

There is a state of charge indicator at the front of the car too. It's located in the exact middle of the led bar. The small black vertical bar. Although I never seen it work on my Ioniq 5, it should indicate how much the car is charged, just like on the charge port.

I’ve had mine for 6 months and love it. Like most online reviewers you are talking about the absolute top of the line i5, which has many features most buyers won’t be getting. My second level i5 doesn’t have most of the cameras and seat functions you love. The rear wiper isn’t just a problem when parking. Driving on rain soaked dusty/dirty roads the rear screen becomes opaque within minutes. I’m not really happy guessing what the vague shapes on the road behind me are in a car at this elevated price bracket. If you live in a drier climate - yeah, it’s not really a problem.

Congrats man on your new Ioniq 5 purchase, hopefully you'll make video about it when it finally arrives. I couldn't agree more with you, despite all the hot rivalry in this particular EV segment, Ioniq 5 is easily the coolest and one of the best in its class. While it's not perfect, it's the best EV from mass manufacturer car brand to fight against the Tesla imo. Also you're officially cooler than your peers since you're not another typical tech KZfaqr who drives a Tesla 😆😁
