I think people tend to not say the full sentence, they skip the end. It's not just "I went to X to become Y", it's "I went to X to become Y and make money out of it". And nothing wrong with that, far from it. We all want it. The problem is that the whole "meme" thing almost never translates into anything else, people share the meme but nobody really went to watch his series or anything, his numbers were still sort of low. And that must be somewhat heartbreaking right? You see your face everywhere as you would if you were famous, but nobody is really watching what you've created.
