My first impressions with the new Ruger American Ranch Gen 2. I avoided the first gen rifle due to a poor action and cheap feeling stock. This is a game changer.

Really like this rifle for the price point. The gun metal cerekote is a great touch. Like the raised comb. Ruger should have left the "non" ranch model with the 22"barrel rather than cutting down to 20". Some really cool calibers coming out this year too on the gen 2! So tired of really nice rifles being put on the market today in 6.5 cm & .308 only.

Yes, I love the new offering of calibers. My hope is they start to do varriations of the ruger american with different barrel lengths in coming years. Tikka has done things like this in the past.

I haven't even touched one of these new Gen 2's yet. That being said, we all have seen many reviews on them by this point. My feeling is simple. This is a lot of rifle for as low as $520. (Lowest I've seen) Ruger sold a zillion of the Gen 1's and I'm sure history will repeat itself. Good video!

My old Ruger American in 308 is a dadgum tack driver that has a 22 inch barrel. I wouldn't trade it for a brand spanking newer one because of the light weight and dependability. Every deer and varmint got laid out when they got a dose of my 150 grain Sierra pro Hunter bullets that I have handloaded for anything agoing here in Texas, and I ain't kidding either.

I can’t speak specifically for the gen 2 but my gen 1 300blk only has the last round bolt hold open because of the pmags. The back end of the follower has more of a 90 degree to it. Try lancer mags, their back end of the follower is more sloped allowing the bolt to push down the follower just enough to not be locked open
@justbros1236 ай бұрын
Sounds like the perfect answer to the "problem". I do prefer to run the bolt at all times like all of my other rifles. Great input!!

Longer barrels definitely have their place, but we're big fans of the shorter barrels for running with a suppressor. Their "Standard" Ruger American Gen2 has a 20" barrel over the 16" that the "Ranch" has, if length is what you're after.
@phillipardell55795 ай бұрын
Jesus, why? There's no velocity benefit with the cartridges it's chambered in due to faster burning powders. They're inherently less accurate due to less-stiff, whippier barrels. And who wants to lug around a magnum-length gun chambered for a non-magnum (considerably, in some cases) cartridges anyway? This is no .338 Win Mag. It's a ranch rifle, chambered in intermediate cartridges. All a knowledgeable shooter needs is a barrel length that maximizes the cartridge it's chambered in, which in this case is around the 16" legal minimum. .223, 300 BLK, 350 Legend, etc.

I just intentionally bought a Gen 1 American in 7mm-08. I love my Gen 1 .270 & 300 BLK. No issues with any of them. I do like (some) of the Gen 2's upgrades, having had a chance to check out a .308, but, the $200+ increase in price compared to some models of the Gen-1's is not worth it to me, fancy twisted barrel & all that. I will most likely get a Gen 2 .270 once they hit the gunshops and once supply is established & prices go south of MSRP, which was the entire point of the concept, cheap, effective, & nothing too fancy. These Gen 2's sort of missed that point.

It is a bummer the price is climbing, but what isn't? It is still impressive what you get for the money. I had a ranch in 300 BLK It would misfire a lot around 6 to 8 times out of 20 sent it back to Ruger. Got it back with a note saying that 300 BLK is designed for the AR and the primers are to hard for it to be reliable. I called them and said I own a ranch 556 and it has 5800 rounds threw it with no misfires is the 556 designed for the AR to. They basically said live with it. I sold it to a friend and he took it to his local gunsmith and had the head space adjusted it works fine now. I bought a savage 300 BLK no more misfires.

I will NEVER buy another rifle were the safety does not LOCK the action. I have been walking on the flat, on two track, and had the bolt come open and lost a round. While still hunting I have looked down and had the action open, round gone missing , and have the receiver full of trash. I have a gen 1 and have had no problem with the smoothness of action. I find it kind of amusing that a $200.00 jump in price,when the Gen. 1 started out at $300-350 price range,still makes this a “cheap”,plinking rifle! They improved the stock,l grant you,the first gen. Was not perfect, but it worked well enough. I never had a problem with the bolt smoothness,and though the cosmetics look nice,cutting 2in. off the barrel,and putting a muzzle brake on it,especially for a.223/556 is a bad joke! All it does is increase muzzle blast,and in larger calibers,cut velocity! Also,what is the latest big thing about “Cans”,or is it some kind of COOLNESS thing? You are paying BATFE 200.00 dollars for a “permit” to own something that you can not allow/ let anyone else use,and your name is on a list that lets Big Brother know what you got, and where to find you,if they ever want to take it! Wish l could afford to drop $55.00+ dollars for a “cheap” gun,just to plink a round with,but I don’t live in that world! Must be nice!🤔😒🤷🏼♂️
