In my giant 1000 gallon cloud rainforest vivarium, called Pantdora, the established ecosystem faces the addition of a 'grim reaper', a notorious insect predator known as a praying mantis, as well as, a colony of crickets. But with the addition of these new animals, came a surprising discovery regarding the Great Ant War that was taking place within Pantdora. Hope you enjoy this episode, Part 9 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

These videos have been a bit of immersion therapy for me because I have a serious phobia of bugs. Felt some genuine relief and joy at the reveal of the Marauder ants new home. I know the realization that they moved because the heat lamps was probably a forehead slap for you, but to me it just shows just how much you know about these little creatures to make that connection. It’s really admirable 🐜 ❤ best of luck!!

The larva in the waters is an Odonata larva, suborder Zygoptera (damselflies etc.). The mantis (likely Hierodula patellifera) is a presubadult female, meaning she has yet to molt twice to reach adulthood and get wings! She won't eat much until she molts, since she was almost full before being added :).

Same, like I enjoy the general topic but I DO NOT get invested in continuing series, my life is too chaotic, and on the rare chance that I do I catch up whenever wherever, like it gets saved to my watchlist and I might get to it in a week or a month. Now I'm like "Oh boy it's Sunday, a new Vivarium video came out yesterday," and you'd better believe I'm watching it Right Now. Not gonna lie I really do want to see what's in that tree stump I bet it's crazy. Pun intended.

In the 80's as a kid I had an 16" Color TV in my bedroom but the only channel I could get was the Discovery Nature channel. As a result I grew to love nature over the years watching shows like this. I can't believe I forgot about that until I found this channel. Thank you for revitalizing my enthusiasm for nature and reminding me how entertaining it is, this is hands down one of my favorite channels.

Ants Canada, I am a 14 year old fan of yours and have always been interested in the life of ants, plants, and other animals in this vast world we live in! I've always wanted to work in the science of plant and animals, and how we can save their biodiversity for years to come. Your channel has made me even more inspired to continue this dream of mine, and has even inspired me to create a mini isopod terrarium! Thank you for all that you do!

I used to be an avid viewer 9 or so years ago when I was six until the age of ten, and watching this series has been giving that same childlike curiosity and interest I had when I was younger: mesmerizingly watching your Asian weaver ant colonies, the fire ant empire, golden sugar ants, titan ants, and even celebrating your play button successes with you. This series is bringing back those memories I had, as I’ve been loving seeing how this ecosystem develops. Thank you for both bringing back this feeling, and the moments I spent watching your videos as a kid.

I know it sounds crazy but me and many others have independantly encountered mantis-like creatures during extreme psychedelic experiences, I have never looked at them with the same eyes since. They spoke to me of the past of the earth and future of species, including humans, producing incredible Meso-American art to tell their story. They were also rather annoyed that I had invaded their realm and said it wasn't time for humans to come to them except for special reasons, recreation and curiosity not being one of them. Then they threw me into a void and I woke up on the floor, totally traumatized but those mantis sages were an incredible encounter (I'm not saying this is a real experience, but it felt completely real, despite probably just being a product of my mind. But why do so many people encounter mantises when they take "heroic" doses of psychedelics? (heroic is a term within the community, it just mean megadoses that make you lose all connection to reality and stop seeing the real world around you, you are transported to a realm deep inside your mind, but it can be incredibly traumatic)

I feel like the best way to help the marauder ants win the war is to remove the stump that is full of black crazy ants, thus removing a lot of their queens, especially since the marauders have moved. It might not solve everything but if the goal is to help the marauders well, may have to replace the stump

Hey AC! Regarding the small insect you found underwater at around the 22 minute mark, my best guess judging from some of my work with other insect larvae is that that is a mayfly larvae still rather early on in development, and probably did come in accidentally with the plants you purchased. Lucky find!
@nablamakabama488
@nablamakabama488 4 ай бұрын
22:15 To me it looks exactly like a damselfly larva. There might be a mayfly species that looks very similar, but I’m pretty sure it’s a damselfly. I accidentally had one in my aquarium too once, but since the room temperature was warmer than outside it emerged during winter instead of summer, and died shortly after, because my living room hadn’t the correct conditions (no prey and probably to dry) and it was way to cold to put it outside. But it was fascinating to see a damselfly fly in winter (probably not as weird in a tropical country). It will probably not grow big enough to eat your fish or shrimps like some dragonfly larva can (maybe their babies) but mine survived somehow with guppies and neocaridina davidi in the tank (just like in this case), idk never saw it eat. So maybe we’ll see a damselfly in one of the next videos.
