Welcome home Fleet! My partner and I lost our heart mouse during his neutering surgery about 8 days ago. It’s been super painful and we felt lots of guilt for putting him threw that. But we know it’s not fair to house him alone. He met our two girls (who he was supposed to live with) and his personality changed! He seemed so much happier knowing the girls’ cage was beside him. Although he didn’t survive his surgery, I still agree that our male babies shouldn’t have to live alone. We think our boy may have been older than vets guessed. he was a pet store mouse, so we were never sure about his age. I’m so excited for Fleet to live out the rest of his mousie life with the girls ❤️🐭

I'm so sorry :( I also have a friend who lost her lovely male mouse during his neuter surgery and it's such a shame when you had such high hopes for them to live a better life. I think genetically some mice just can't quite cope with the surgery, but please don't feel guilty for trying to improve his quality of life, I'm sure he enjoyed the life he had with you before just as much! ❤️

@@Emiology thanks so much for your response Emi. It means sooo much to my partner and I! Agreed, we had a whole plan for him after the surgery. But I'm happy he crossed over peacefully. I hear you about genetics! since he was a pet store mouse we're not sure what pre-existing conditions or genetics he may have had to put him at higher risk. Thank you again, your words mean so much

Fleeting more so means short lasting and not long enough, like a single fleeting glance at your true love. FLEET however, is cute. :D

Now I'm not saying i looked at the rescue page, scouted out the mice and rats, and found there were no rats, and then saw there were three male (neutered ) mice and then that one had been spoken for but- yes. yes I did.

Girls are obviously fine to live together without little boys, but throwing a little boy mouse in just .. completely changes the dynamics of the colony in the very best of ways. :) Can't wait to see more of Mr. Fleet! :D

I have an affection for male mice cause, well, I'm male. I've had two, one currently, who live alone, though I'm lucky to be able to have him constantly on my desk next to my computer. I've found that if I have extraordinary amounts of time to spend with my male mouse, then I'm enough company for him to be happy, and he will have a lively, buoyant personality, though I'd urge people to try this only if your circumstances do allow you to spend a great deal of time with your pet.

This is what I do too. I'm not confident in my local vets abilities with mice at all after some very dated and dangerous treatment suggestions so my boy will stay intact. I may try some african soft furs if I can source them but I'm confident in his wellbeing. His cage is right next to my desk and his play table is on the other side but he hangs out with me most of the time. He may have been intended to be food but he's an extremely intelligent, affectionate boy. He loves to snuggle up in the crook of my arm, get some pets and brux. I think keeping male mice intact is fine and much safer (especially with random, unknown genetics) if you have the time to give them the social interactions they need to be fufilled and healthy.

Yep! I jist looked it up and mice definitely can if they're excited or happy just like rats. They also make a chirping sound if they're happy 😊 first time I heard my male mouse do this I thought it was respiratory issues lol

@@mitsukitai2713 That has been my experience as well! At first I thought my little man had a URI going on and then with observation I realized he was making those sounds for me! Only when he wanted me to give him attention and never when sleeping or exercising. I'd love to see if these sweet little sounds are tied in at all with the the singing serenades we can't hear! It really seemed to me he figured out I responded to his chirrups and that he amped them up after because of positive response.
