Adapted from acclaimed author Richard Matheson's influential novelette of the same name, Constantine director Francis Lawrence's I Am Legend follows the last man on Earth as he struggles to survive while fending off the infected survivors of a devastating vampiric plague. A brilliant scientist who raced to discover a cure for the man-made virus as humanity came crumbling down all around him, Robert Neville (Will Smith) was inexplicably immune to the highly contagious superbug. Now the entire population of New York City -- and perhaps the world -- has been transformed into carnivorous bloodsuckers that fear the light and live solely to spread their contagion to any remaining living creature that crosses their path. It's been three years since civilization came to an end, and the loneliness has taken a devastating toll on Neville. By day he scours the city for food and supplies while sending out desperate radio messages in hopes that someone might respond, and by night he attempts to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus by experimenting with his own blood. they werent scary at all, cgi was such a bad choice. they are as scary as ai robots in I ROBOT which is not scary either(they werent meant to be scary). 2 bad movies, bad adaptions of the books

Well the CGI for the mutants/ infected was definitely not good. But the design for them was pretty cool. Hairless, skinny but muscular at the same time. Pale and no body fat. It's a pretty good scary design

To people saying his suicide was unnecessary. He lost his family, and just recently he lost the last thing that meant something to him; his dog. He didn't want to live anymore, and he ended his life as a worthy sacrifice.

"Look, Daddy! A butterfly" 🦋 😭😭😭 when the monster dude drew it on the glass signifying that's who he was there for and when Will Smith saw the butterfly tattoo he knew and understood that she was someone very special and important to him. Remember how that's the last thing Will Smith's daughter says in the helicopter before they get killed and he sees it.

I think the reason Robert killed himself was so he could be with his family again, he was just so broken by the broken glass looking like a butterfly and the fact that Sam was dead that he couldn't live anymore. Still, I do think it should have been avoided.

There are a few great scenes in this movie, but this one is my favourite. You can hear the desperation in Will Smith's voice as he makes a last ditch effort to save his life by explaining to these mindless husks that he can turn around the entire collapse of society, but they're too crazy to care, symbolized by them destroying Neville's research in their mad rush to get to him. I almost prefer the version where they're not there for the girl, because it makes Neville's sacrifice so much more bittersweet.

But they aren't mindless husks. They were capable of replicating human intelligence via the trap they re-made for Will when he stole the Alpha's mate. The Alpha knew his strengths and restraints when he saw his mate being stolen, knowing that going outside was too dangerous to take back what Will stole. To Will, they might be mindless husks, but in reality, they were a new, intelligent race that were capable of humanity in the most primal of ways.

@@untrustingstatue Yea, in the movie they are shown to be capable of complex thought, and in the story it's based on, they form a new society. That's why the story is titled, "I Am Legend", because Neville is the boogeyman of the new society, killing them during the day when they sleep. The movie more or less cut that entire dynamic out, so the title is nonsensical - but they are still shown to be capable of some reasoning, or at least the Alpha is.

@my Guy! you're right Nezuko is stupid! the ending of the novel is the main character is shown in a cage or something like that to a society of the darkseekers. It is shown that the title is called “I am Legend” because he basically is the equivalent to a monster. For example, Dracula is a legend of a vampire while the people fear him. In this case, he is “Dracula” in that he has been terrorizing the darkseekers by capturing them and experimenting on them. He is legend because he is the monster that the darkseekers will tell each generation. The brilliance in this is that we see the whole story through the main characters perspective and even agreed with what he was doing without acknowledging the other side because we thought of them as “monsters”. Same as they thought we were. It’s a very well done theme as this relates to life and is a pretty mind-blowing ending in which I wish they didn’t change in the movie.

It was a butterfly, it matched the tattoo of the butterfly of the zombie he was treating. The male Zombie wanted the female zombie he had captured. (See alternate ending)

Strangely, in the version I saw, the infected never did that, but it was the crack on the glass that had formed the butterfly image.

Same here. I think this was the alternate ending where Smith's character never dies. Supposedly he gives the infected female back to the infected male and then leaves the city with Alice Braga's character and her son. The infected female also did not have the butterfly tattoo, Alice Braga's character did, in the version you and I saw.

I like to look at the theatrical ending as him setting something right. When one loses someone, it is not uncommon for them to suffer survivors guilt. I think that Neville would have given just about anything to make it so that his wife and child had lived, even his own life. This perhaps, was the closest he'd ever get to that opportunity. Alternatively, the other ending seems to speak of forgiveness and letting go.

I actually never saw this version. I’ve only seen the one where the cracks form a butterfly and then Robert looks at the girl and boy and the girl had the butterfly tattoo on her neck. In which when I first saw the movie I never understood why he looked at her then. It was just kind of random to me. But a friend of mine pointed out the cracks formed a butterfly and I rewatched the movie my mind was blown.

In the version that was released, the cracks in the glass form a large butterfly, and then Neville turns to see a butterfly tattoo on Anna's neck. This is probably the alternate ending in which the infected female is returned to the infected male, and then Neville leaves the city with Anna and her son instead of blowing himself up with the grenade.

Neville tries to communicate with the darkseekers. He wouldn't waste a second doing that if it weren't possible. The darkseekers moved the mannequin and set the trap, of course they're intelligent, just mutated and deranged.

If they make a sequel with Robert as the main character, that means only 1 ending (The one where he lives) is the legit one, which means making two endings was pointless. Sorry, but this movie is just a 1-of and it should stay that way.

Wow, growing up as a kid (20 now) I never had this film on dvd, I would only watch it whenever it showed up on tv. I never knew the monster drew a butterfly on the window! I only remembered him slamming against the window then like on the third slam Will just realized the cracks were a butterfly. Must have been editied highy for tv. I gotta buy it and sit down and watch the full cut.

The greatest most emotional ending to a film in history its been my favorite film ever since 2007 before this was A knights tale in 2001 with heath ledger but I am legend is my film 📼 it's something I always go back to watch they both are to be honest.......... ❤️ Unique and so emotional the power of these films are crazy........

Any other person would just shoot, he showed compasión knowing that the infected fellow had a reason to do what he did, he wanted to kill him not because he can but, because will took his lover, meaning the bad guy is Not the leader but will.
