The front axle needs 80w90 and needs to be half full. Both ends needs to be filled to the thread of the filling plug. Also 80w90. Transmission needs 10w30stou. I'm from Europe so I don't know if you have the same oil specs over there. Good luck men! It looks like someone filled the transmission with 80w90 or is it so thick from the cold? 😊

Keeping a equipment inside of at least under cover certainly helps keep equipment in much nicer condition for much longer time and more importantly it prevents you from getting a wet ass in the morning and or after a rain or snow shower. I don’t know about you but I hate getting my ass wet unless there is a damn good reason. Have a great day and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Very few glow plugs go bad on these units - it is the relay. you will greatly extend the life of your front tires by turning them around backwards. you won't loose any traction, but the wear is greatly reduced especially with a loader. the 1715 was an "economical" version of the Ford compact tractors. The "full blown" version is the 1720. It has more gears and you could get it in a hydro which was awesome. You have a great little tractor that should last at your house as long as you want it to stay there. A good tractor to teach your grandkids how to drive in the future!

Great tractors. They’re hard to bleed the fuel systems, which you found out. They’re also cold blooded. You have to use the glow plugs even if it’s 80° out, for the first start of the day. If it’s parked in an unheated building, they can be a real bitch to get started in winter. Heat lamps and/or torpedo heaters required. Ford should have put a block heater in standard. They only require four fluids: diesel, coolant, 15W-40 engine oil, and NewHolland 134 fluid or equivalent.

The Ford 1715 was part of series of small tractors from Ford built in Japan, 1715 4wd/1710/1915/19204wd/2110/21204wd they were built from 1988-1990 phased out in the early 90's when Ford was bought out by New Holland into New Holland series TC line , Tc 40 Tc35 ect. I have a 1989 2120 great little tractor around the 40-45hp. Only problem I have is the factory bucket is to big and heavy for them. And the fact that Ford used a overlap of there model numbers from the 60's with similar numbers so be careful in looking up parts and items for this series. Some if not most of the parts are interchangeable between them and New Holland TC series and the 1988-90 years series.

@@jamesbegley2700 Yes, I traded for a Kubota L2500DT basket case, with a supposedly bad engine. Turns out it had a bad safety switch. But in moving it, the previous owner has removed some hydraulic lines, and reconnected them in the wrong places. It took me getting my hands on the original loader manual to figure it out. When connected wrong, I could get the loader up and down...really slowly, but with no real authority. It's working perfectly now.

I own 2 1920 ford newholland tractors and rebuilt the front 4 wheel drive front axle with all new bearings and seals you could put oil in the axel and it would pour out the final drives and on the ground. After rebuilding I put 80/90 weight gear oil in axel and final drives filled up to the opening .The part man at ford said the oil will go into the final drives from the axel and it does but very slowly .It passes through a cover on a bearing to make Its way down .

pinch any engine oil dipstick, If sticky ,its laced with STP, put a lighter to the oil on it. if it spits, its got antifreeze in it. On diesel flushes, It leaves a film that stops oil from getting into pores and not doing its job, Friend does jet engine gearboxes so has lots of training and it came up as its ol for first step but you want metal spotless on reassembly. looks too clean and not faded to be left out , low wear on floorboards.not even algae on anything.

Kevin was right, FORD = Found On Road Dead. Frequent Overall's and Rapid Depreciation . & Don't no one chime in with First On Race Day, we know that's a lie. The up grade to a Quick Attachment would be a very smart move. Plus, It would be another nice & quick Welding Project for Tucker.

Pretty cool getting that Shibaura tractor going again. The only thing Ford about that tractors is the decals. The Japanese made the Briggs and Stratton Vanguard engines for many years too. I've learned a lot about dozers and tracked equipment on this channel but I do know a lot more about small to medium size tractors and that is a good one. My neighbor collects tractors and it also seems railroaders like to collect them too. I'm not certain about how much fluid goes into the front axle gear boxes but I would make sure the gears are at least just covered if you can see down into the boxes. Like it or not the Japanese make top notch equipment because they take great pride in their products. Every piece of equipment has it's quirks but I bet you hang on to that tractor for many years.

That's a good tractor. On the outers. I just fill the oil to the bottom of the threads. Never had any issues
