So I bought a real carnival ride. This week I start the restoration of a vintage kiddie ride. This is a carnival ride built by the King Amusement Company of Michigan in 1972. It is a trailer mounted swing type ride called the Supersonic Rocket. With the help of my Son in Law and Grandson we aim to do a full restoration.

Bloody hell, never thought I'd get so invested in seeing someone start to restore an amusement park ride. I've dabbled in restoration myself but mostly of vintage toys and Japanese game systems; the fact people like you are out here restoring old rides like this is amazing!

Do you think you'd ever consider doing this but with a small coaster? Coasters are a lot bigger and difficult, but the surprising number of people that have made their own backyard roller coasters show that it isn't too crazy of an idea.

I would probably not be interested in building anything from scratch, but if the opportunity came along to restore a traveling version of a kiddie coaster or wild mouse I'd certainly be interested in that!

I'd play around with a hunk of cardboard to figure out those tricky cuts and suggest using HD 4 or 5 wire cord for durability rather than single wires. I find that using 2" pieces of pipe every few ft & in the corners keeps the wiring clean, give both sides of the floor at least 3 or 4 thick coats of enamel so it lasts for 10 yrs. I'm looking forward to watching your progress...
@PeteRondeau
@PeteRondeau 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, good suggestions- There actually is pipe that the original trailer wiring was run in. They chose to wire -tie the replacement wires to the outside of the pipe. Glad to have you along- should be a fun project!

Could be worse... You could be restoring an old Eyerly Aircraft _Octopus_ or _Spider,_ but definitely NOT a _Monster!_ Those were always more permanent mount for theme parks... If in a winter zone, they remove the cars, drive motors for the car cluster arms (if not the cluster arms themselves), and reduce the levels of and seal the lube/hydro systems...

Just came across your channel and LOVE IT!! Not sure where you are, I am in eastern PA and a former Amusement Ride Inspector and Technician (worked for many years at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in the older days). Quite familiar with that ride, looks much like one that was at the old Bushkill Park in Easton, PA. Will be watching to see how this comes along!

Such an awesome project... just found your page so not sure how far you've gotten on it, IF you haven't recovered the frame yet..would it be possible to put deck boards back on it instead of the plywood?? we did that on a utility trailer & it was a lot easier to maintain & paid fir itself in no time..

Hi John, glad to have you along! Two options I am currently considering are some sort of decking material as you mentioned, or putting down aluminum diamond plate. Time and budget will make the final decision for me- LOL Thanks for the suggestion!
