Be careful because WHITE lefties would SCREAM that this home needs to be demolished because it was built in an era that was way too Capitalist and oppressive in the United States. Just be careful and stay positive. A friend of our family just went through this with an old home and cemetery in GA where the WHITE left wanted removed and canceled out because the home was built in an oppressive era and the cemetery had dead Confederate soldiers in it. Where are you to put old caskets and gravestones? It's getting way too scary in this country anymore. I am also Russian and WHITE lefties are constantly telling me how much they hate me because I'm Russian and how I need to leave America and that my home should be taken away from me. Sad and scary times we live in brother.

I believe that curly pine isn't a separate species but rather a tree that was infected with a fungus. Modern logging and forestry has all but killed off the fungus so you don't see it much anymore. Before modern genetics people thought it was a separate species simply because it looks so different. Personally since you can't really get it anymore I don't think correcting the name is important. People know what your after when you say it.

You have made great progress on many important fronts. We have been restoring an 18 room, 1860 brick house for 20 years now. We are nearly done, and probably would have been done long ago if we had not bought three more pre-Civil war houses and two pre-1900 commercial buildings. We live in an area of Vermont that is full of glorious, under appreciated old houses and buildings. We felt that we had to save them, or no one else would. As I am sure you already know, these old buildings have what I call a life force, and in so many ways they “thank” us for saving them.

Enjoy the exercise up and down the staircase. Also, you might look into a rubber roof. It works very well on a row home in Philadelphia. You might also devise a drip shelf “lip” atop every window and door. Have them made of copper. Code demands 4 outlets per room set at 4 feet off the floor….if you intend to ever sell it. Decorators Supply of Chicago is the best to go to for decorative moldings, and ceiling bursts. There was a time when painters would cover the interior plaster walls with a fine canvas applied with oatmeal paste. They still make it. The canvas looks really nice and prevents hides fishers cracks because the canvas is elastic enough after painting. Also, Awnings are another window treatment to preserve from the Sun and rain. They also are a look of that time. You can pick your own Sumbrella canvas for your historically framed awnings. Also, with a rubber roof, you can build a roof deck. You might water proof the brick walls and plaster facade…..mainly the North wall. Wait to do this during a drought. There are water proofing that breath. ….and don’t be afraid of oil based products. They still are the best. Never save rags. Never leave rags in a pile. Only linseed oil combusts in rags, however, always use new rags as a good habit. HD has those teri towel white rags. They are so worth it. Painting is an art….it’s evident that you’ve mastered it. The stripped beaded wood solid banisters are brilliant. Don’t be afraid of adding sky lights..especially over the staircases. I know you’re having fun. All good wishes.

John here (Kaleb's dad). Kaleb shoots and edits all his content. I've only edited the youtube shorts(which most people hate, btw). I do the backend stuff like try to keep up with comments from youtube, instagram, and facebook. I also manage the email and manage all the brand deals. I also deal with the PO Box, sort and catalog al the mail, and manage the Patreon account for the postcard club. We have custom merch coming and both Kaleb and I have been working on that together. It's incredible how much goes on behind the scenes with this channel. Oh, I also manage Kaleb's calendar and wake him up so he makes all our appointments. The kid is a workhorse but managing a personal life, the workload this house entails, hockey, etc. it's an impossibility for him to deal with the majority or the behind the scenes stuff, We've recently moved the opening of the mail to Kim's channel to help alleviate that task from his schedule (of course items house related or with impactful stories will always have full focus on the main channel).

It’s been such a privilege to see your wonderful devotion to detail and respect for history, not to mention your amazing skills in action here. A truly brilliant restoration of a fascinating house. I wish more people here in England would understand the importance of restoration vs modernisation, or worse, demolition. Hats off to you for all your achievements so far…the house has such a beautiful friendly feel going on, and deserves the sympathetic care you are so obviously giving. Thank you so much for posting.

I love seeing people take so much pride into restoring their home to the period correct design. What is most incredible is that you are doing it all yourself and learning along the way. The absolute joy, elation, and pride you will feel once you complete your home will be unfathomable. I have always dreamed of doing exactly what you have taken on here, but I realistically do not have the time or patience to do it. Maybe someday I will attempt something similar as this, but until then I will just have to admire and envy your work from a distance. Best of luck to you and your lovely girlfriend. I know it will be wonderful for you guys in the end and all the hard work and efforts will pay off.

A LABOR OF LOVE ❤️, without it these types of restorations/renovations cannot be accomplished. From the moment you own your house, you have to envision and believe wholeheartedly that you CAN restore it to the beauty it once was. My house was built in 1898 and I also went through the same process but on a much smaller scale. There’s ups and downs, expensive, time-consuming, delays, disappointments and plenty of frustrations. Many times I felt like throwing in the towel so to speak but by dear husband would encourage me and say, “you have come so far now, don’t give up”. The end result was beautiful and I have the satisfaction that I was able to save a piece of history for the next generation. These type of houses will never be built again and if possible must be saved from being demolished. Thank you Kaleb for the video. You have an incredible love and passion for this old house/mansion. It’s a “diamond in the rough” and it will be quite a jewel 💎 someday.

Kaleb, I helped restore a gorgeous place in an older area and I see you enjoying the passerby who say, „How nice to see this old place cone to life again!“ or, „ I grew up riding my bike up and down in front of this house.“ This House WAS yours to save. The one I did was left alone by vandals because all eyes were on it- that help a lot. May the house snd human kindness make up for the ravages time and weather and neglect have wrought. Tell Kim I say, keep on keeping on!
