The Phaeton was a 4x4 luxury train, but if you buy it with a 3.0L diesel (which is a bit sluggish, but still good on power and fuel economy) it will be much cheaper to maintain (at least here in Europe). Me and my brother both had one each for under 7000$ and they were great. My brother actually toured around Europe in one summer, and it was the best cars for the task. After selling them, we realized it was that kind of car that when you own one, it feels expensive, but when you sell it, you instantly regret it and other cars don't satisfy you the same

100%. I have a 3.0 Phaeton for 5 years now and the only thing I changed was the front suspension. I think I spent 1500 euro on that for some refurbished originals and it felt like new again. The Phaeton is the ultimate road trip car and highway killer. You set the cruise control on 240 (in germany) and just cruise. I would not call it sluggish at all. There's no way I'm selling mine. I actually moved away from europe but I still store my Phaeton for the future.

I own an RX8 - yes they do have their issues, they just need to be looked after properly. I know people who have kept theirs going far beyond 100k miles. You'll only ruin an engine after 30k miles if you don't let it bed in properly.

RX8s’ wankel/rotary engines are less reliable than similar-power piston engines, but the majority of problems are caused by neglect through not keeping oil topped up or switching the engines off cold (the required deflooding risking scoring). The rear bearings of S1 cars do fail, but using heavier oil helps substantially. Most of the issues can be avoided for a long time by getting a compression test done before purchase (too many unscrupulous sellers lie to get rid of a damaged car!), checking ignition coils and regular oil level checks (I’ve had many piston cars that drink oil faster). The cars are so cheap now that you can throw one away and lose little (but insist on a comp test before buying and get new coils). Did I say get a comp test done and get new coils? I’ve done over 100,000 miles in RX8s with no engine problems whatsoever.

My dad has had a Land Rover Discovery 2 since 2012. It has had some issues, like ABS, TC and HDC warning lights going off for no reason at all (one time the ABS warning light went off, and my dad had to brake on the snow; the ABS was working very well!), and a minor leak from the steering assist. We tried many times to get them fixed, but after the 6th time we undestood it wasn't worth it. Now it makes a weird screetch sound when you accelerate too hard (I think it's the engine belt). It never left us on foot though, unlike a Range Rover Sport from 2010 that we bought in 2020. That one left us in the middle of nowhere because apparently there was metal in the fuel tank, the ECU detected it and it instantly shut off the engine. We did fill up the car at a very sus looking gas pump though. Bought it for €10.000, €3000 to fix the damage. Didn't do anything weird after that. Update: It died again

The trouble with them is usually the moron who owns them. Most have the mechanical finesse of a baboon. I do all my own repairs and maintenance so I'm sure it's done properly.

The bmw e60 m5 has some reliability issues which can be fix before it breaks such as rod bearing, gearbox etc... The automotive culture kinda implified the unreability of this car and now they are at the bottom of their value. If u have enough money to maintain them, then go for it, but don't expect them to have a "lexus reliability" and maintain cost, just take care of the car (waiting it for being warm, changing oil etc...). And imo the car will go up in value because cauz it has a freakin v10 (in a "regular sedan") straight out of competition and an AMAZING sound and performance.

pretty much every car can be reliable if you take care of it and have enough money to maintain it? but tbh that gen of BMW's (e90/91 3 series and 5 series e60/61) are probably some of the worst most unreliable poorly built bmw's.

Rx8 original owner 130k miles. Replaced plugs wires and coills, water pump and belts, several cabin oil and intake filters, brakes and rotors. Overflow bottle, both door locks, aircontrol solenoids, clutch pedal, emissions fan. Total repair and maintenance about £4,000. Did most of the work myself. I have to keep the car and sell my much newer bmw n20 motor car due to the reliability. Bmw has lost oil cooler gasket and timing covers gaskets. Timing chains likely to fail soon. Rx8 has been more reasonable to fix.

The thing about the RX8 is: if you truly want one, get the Facelift version. They fixed SO many issues of the engine by adding a third oil injector and increasing the oil pressure and they are generally pretty reliable. The pre-facelift ones though, if it using the premix workaround (or having the facelift improvements added) will break down eventually.

Most of them didn't work right straight out the factory and were only for looking at or driving once a week. They're made in such small numbers and driven so few miles they never get the kinks worked out and don't build a new model with fixes.

Both together cost me 300 bucks 🤣 And, if any big problems arise, Germany is just a 4-day drive away for replacement parts. Now...American muscle cars? Ooohhh now THOSE are expensive over here.

The Ford Edsel was the beginning of the end for my grandfather. But it wasn't so much the repairs to the car that caused him so many problems. He invested heavily in the production of the car and he ended up blowing the entire family fortune on this venture. Also, in a position of significant responsibility he borrowed heavily against the assets of the nation which employed him to manage their funds and their economy. This was just so that he could further fund development and the redesign initiatives relating to that goddamned car. Consequently he ended up bankrupting the Republic of Nauru (Pleasant Island), and that's why it is in the state of ruin it is in today.

The RX8 is actually a decent and reliable car. But you definitely need to see a recent compression test before your buy one. Also give it a miss if it has a full Mazda service history, rather than a rotary specialist. According to Mazda, the coils never need replacing. They do. Roughly every 10k miles, if you use Mazda parts. Or once, if you use specialist aftermarket ones. Yes the Apex seals still go, normally somewhere between the 30k and 50k mile mark. An engine rebuild will probably cost you somewhere between £1.5 and £3k. But, as long as the body is good, then you still have an awesome drivers car. The later R3 model sorts out some of the Apex seal issues, but will still need an engine rebuild at some stage. As for them being a 1300cc engine. That's what Mazda says. The UK DVLA rates them as 2600cc. Fuel consumption is mid 20's to low 30's MPG (UK gallons). Absolutely brilliant cars. But you do need to do your research, and know what you are buying.

13 YEARS NOW. A 328i 2010 E92 with, you got it the N51 engine, M Sport Package. Hydraulic steering, suspension is one of the kings here. The car is still doing very well after 178,000 miles.. like any car the regular maintenance. Parts are very good in (their) price. "But here's the kicker", You can afford this BMW or any other, if only when you do all the work yourself. Thank goodness we are big enthusiasts and technicians. All cars.. But most of all The Ultimate Driving Machine, yup, BMW. We will drive nothing else.."Sorry" for those who don't know, but because of this habit we love this car. The rest have very big imaginations about this car, that truthfully are completely wrong. Until you really understand this car or any BMW your ownership for sure will impress you. This model that is a Stright Six,(no turbo) with extra beef. But all motors, no matter the size or package is a dream to drive. You don't need a race car on the street. But we track this car as well...! Good luck to all BMW Lovers like ourselves.

It is registered as a classic so no Road Tax or MOT and cheap insurance. Driven sensibly it will do 22 MPG. it's my everyday car. Today it's worth about £25,000 but it's not for sale. @nearlyaverage9694

I’m short: no. The rotary has become far more reliable and fuel efficient to keep up with new regulations and standards, and with correct care it’s possible to take a rotary to over 100000 miles without any mishaps. However, they are still ludicrously fuel inefficient, which is why Mazda stopped developing them after the rx8.

Right, so I did want to provide a constructive criticism. I do not think that Ian has no talent, but I do not think that this is the way to focus on the channel either. I have read your reasoning on why Ian is there, but my opinion: Hire people that can make your work easier without removing the Stype touch. The humour is not only limited to the sentences and punch lines, as there are other factors that play key roles too. The tone and enthusiasm is also key when focusing on humour and Stype is simply amazing at that. It feels human, funny and really natural. Ian however, he seems like that one guy who goes to stand up comedies and try to beat the master of the SUP comedy show in that place, but tries too hard. Also the final "Cut" felt really unnatural. I am sorry Ian, but I think that Stype is the one that is here to stay. That said, cool voice for a subchannel, TopCars TV plus (idea?)

Bought a Volvo S80 from a neighbor. Car looked great and rode well but was a maintenance nightmare. The air conditioning would run for 30 minutes and just stop. Even tough the car had an extended warranty (it came with it -- sold by the dealership) they could not fix it. The dealership claimed the insurance would not cover what was needed. But wait I protested -- you sold the policy with the car. You get where this is going.... I got $1000 when I traded it...because it had relatively new tires that were worth that.

I had the V8 2003 Mercedes SL55 AMG for 14 years, sold it five years ago, same body as the 600 but more reliable. I had some suspension repairs which is common to this series, and an oil leak repair at the transmission, apart from that and with expert regular service including the retractable top it was a gem. It was always under cover and used regularly. A good friend has a 2002 CL550 AMG coupe, same suspension problem which was fixed by the same guy who did mine, his also has been reliable with some minor repairs over the years including the pneumatic door lock pump. Timeless classic styling, the two door AMG coupe is even better looking in my opinion than the AMG SL. He still has his and it looks as good as the day it left the showroom. Beautiful classics to own, AMG has better quality interior than the standard Mercedes badge and with loving care are a wonderful car to own, they are becoming rare nowadays and seldom seen on the roads. That's my experience, expert regular service is a must with these models.

i have a 2004 volkwagen lupo 14mpi, and i ride it like i stole it, and it never ever broke down, and the interior and dash still look like new and there are no squeeky noises from cheap plastics, so i concider it as one of the best cars ever made. The only downside is that the clear coat is peeling off everywhere, but the silver paint still looks great and shows no sign of weathering or rust. So i gues that they just started to switch to water based paints and what wasn't that good back then.
