Yours is not the most desired rokon year and model but still a beast. I met the guy that actually welded the frames for rokon back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s and he saw my 73 rokon and said yeah I welded that frame because I added a extra weld in a specific area for more strength during production. I geeked out over that, pretty interesting and they are still made today in my State

Those Rokons were just a curiosity bike of the day. A Xr can easily blow thru foot deep snow and deeper if you put on a paddle tire. Rokon is good for collecting because of it's uniqueness but that's it.

Holy cow. I remember seeing those advertised in Popular Mechanics when I was a little kid! (and I'm 73 years old now). 1982?? I remember them way before that. Must be different models of them way back when. Seems like I was like 10 years old maybe.

I'm 70 and remember seeing one for the first time when I was 10 years old. I lived in Fresno CA. A gas station near my house had an obstacle course around its parameter that the distributor set up. Every hour a rider would demonstrate the Rokon's remarkable prowess by riding over the obstacles in its path. The Rokon was yellow. Great memories!

Neighbor had a Trail-Breaker back in the mid-late 1960s. Bright yellow paint, metal fuel tank, the seat was more of a saddle with springs, if I recall correctly the range selector was a lever beside the tank. Otherwise, very similar to that newer Rokon.

I remember when they first came on the market. If you were an outdoorsman up in the PNW. You wanted one. You could see them on a rack on the front bumper of pickups like trophies. But they were a beast... not fast but they were not made to be fast. They appealed to the outdoorsman who wanted to get into the woods with less walking. Drag a sled for gear and or game... firewood.. However the three wheeler ATV and 4 wheel ATV and ARGO... just took over the market for obvious reasons. Interesting enough they are making a comeback... Probably due to price of "modern" ATV's and SXS's...

Had one when I was a kid. It was a Rokon Ranger. Had a taller wheel for more fuel storage. They had a trailer option for camping or exploring gear or tools. They were almost unstoppable. I believe it was even noted that they could float when the wheels were empty. The Ranger's were red and black. It was a bit rough so you have to lower the air pressure for some cushion. It was fun trying to get stuck a little top heavy and a bit wide which made for a little trouble steering through some trails....

New production bikes are selling for around $10k. They switched to a Kohler, single cylinder, four stroke that puts out around 7hp. Too soles is still around 30mph which isn’t horrible for a 200cc 2wd bike made for climbing up big ass hills which it does rather well.

Actually I thought it sounded kinda tired at the start of the video (2xtired lol) like there was wrist pin slap or something, maybe spark knock and I had a cycle before that acted just like that, ran perfectly good sometimes then just fell on its face. If you can find parts its best just to go through everything, and horsepower is where you find it, little here, little there etc. good luck

Cool bike, they make those right down the street in New Hampshire. Your airbox is missing that's why it's running lean. All of the parts are still available just contact Rokon. BTW you scored and the most desirable model with the rear suspension and the last two stroke. The new ones are rigid frame and have Honda 4 stroke generator motors. Ditch those crappy tires, get the correct ones from Rokon and it will go anywhere.

You need to take it out into the mountains creeks and going over logs. It will pull a house. The icy snow and flat aways will never allow the bike to show you how great it is. They say the only limitations to the Rokon will always be the ability of the rider. Trust me take it out under different circumstances, strt up mountains hard core trails and over creeks and you will be crazy impressed and never sell it. Mine is a 73 with a 7hp Chrysler motor . I like the 70’s better because of the shifter Good luck. Love watching your show ! Dan

I see a fuel filter in line between the tank and carb.... In the past year I have had 2 machines, one motorcycle and one ATV, where the filter restricted flow just enough the bowls in the carbs wouldn't fill. There just wasn't enough gravity pressure to push the fuel through as fast as the engine needed it. I could let it sit a while, the fuel apparently would trickle in and fill the bowl, and the engine would start, then starve again soon after. I even did a series of videos on finding and fixing that happening on my little Sportster. Finding the culprit drove me nuts. I don't know if eventually a film of some sort forms over the filter screen, or just what, but removing the filter cured the problem. Now I just rely on the screen in the pet cock. I "think" the carb elevation relative to the tank just wasn't enough for gravity to do the trick. Maybe a new filter would solve your problem, or just try running it with a straight fuel tube and see.

Get yourself another ramp and walk down that ramp along side of your bike when you are unloading it that way you don't have to jump or slip and end up with a bike on top of you, it is so much easier and safer!! Do the same thing when you are loading a bike, just walk up the ramp along side of your bike while you feather the clutch and bring it up into the truck. Cool bike though can't wait to see it climbing tree 🌴

Fun detail is that the rims can be used as floats, or as storage tanks for water or fuel. They really do well for what they are meant to do. I like the Rokon. 👍
