Good morning, Brock. I love the videos that you do with your Dad and your Grandson. But the ones that you do with your Dad remind me of my Son and I. Although, i don't make any videos we do more car and hunting stuff together. Just speaking for myself as a senior citizen I treasure every moment that I spend with my son and grandsons. And I'd be willing to bet that so does your Dad as I'm sure that you do also. So, God bless you both and keep up the great work. ❤😊👍

I think you just made the perfect video demonstrating where this type of mill fits into the vast array of available mills. It also highlights why there are so many options available when you consider cost versus performance. With my needs, I think I made the best choice choosing this mill. It’s not perfect and it’s not for everyone. I also really appreciated hearing your dad’s perspective and enjoy seeing the two of you working together. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to working with my dad when he moves down from Michigan later this year. That will make this mill a very special tool that will be cherished for the memories it creates.

I had a Logosol M8. I sold it and bought a F2+ because the M8 was longer than I need, and the F2+ is more portable. The main downside to the F2 and F2+ is that it only has 1/4" clicks, whereas the M8 had 1/8" clicks. This means that the F2 and F2+ are not as adjustable when it comes to sawing the board thickness that you would like. This is especially an issue with a chainsaw that cuts a ~3/8 inch kerf.

Good stuff Brock, father son stuff is always good memories. Some good friends of mine have a few hundred acres with a lot of pine trees. They used a mill like that and sawed all the logs for a log cabin, cut three sides left one live edge outside. That cabin is very cool!

Unless im milling for a specific project or request, i always mill my stuff live edge. I can always put the board back on the mill after drying and cut it to dimensional but i can never put the live edge back on once cut off. Nice video Brock! Your dad is very well spoken on camera too!

Good video. Great to see your dad with you. I've done my share of chainsaw milling, much with an ms362 with a 36" bar Easy enough to mill up to 30". For me, it is always worth it to take a few minutes and sharpen. A good sharp ripping blade with proper raker depth and listening to your saw can make it quite pleasant and give a surprisingly good cut finish.

G'day RHF, your dad is correct in what he said, you added the purchase price of the saw to the mill ! surely if you want to get into this you've already got a saw how are you falling the trees ? anyway the Logosol electric power head runs a .325 chain at extreme RPM its as fast as a band.My Lucas mill has a wider kerf than a band but because it's a swing mill there's no need for an edger which saves money and time for there's no double handling. That's why they're the quarter sawn King, if I want to cut five foot wide slabs twenty five feet long and thirteen inches thick it's simply a matter of fitting the slabbing attachment 👍.

Any day cutting wood any way is a good day. Especially if you can do it with your dad or son/daughter, or grandkids. I wouldnt be able to stand cutting that way without filing the drags down to saw out bigger chips and go a lil faster?
@donalexander4083
@donalexander4083 Жыл бұрын
to me there are two major drawbacks to the chainsaw mill vs. bandsaw mill 1) is width of kerf and 2) the effort to saw the log

Hey Brock... I'm an everyday watcher and I was wondering what happened to Billy? We haven't seen him in 4 months. Did u piss him off or something? Great video with your Daddy today, we were waiting for him to get on you like dad's do, but you managed to pull it off. Lol

Yeah, Billy is a good friend but he has kids at home that plays sports and life gets busy. Of course, he also works full-time and doesn’t make any money from being in my videos. Hopefully in the spring we can get together on some projects

The advantage to the WINCH (whether logosol or Alaskan) is BACKACHE RELIEF once you get used to sharp chain/ cut rate/ tension, you get better surface and MUCH, MUCH LESS tired at end of day/ end of log. You Learn to LET THE SAW DO THE WORK is what the winch teaches you. Have NOT broken string in years now. You get a FEEL for the proper tension very quickly.

I e never seen anyone cut a tree down by pushing the tip through the tree, I would think that’s dangerous and asking for a kickback, I worked in the woods many years and never saw any pro do that.

I started my own "outdoor handyman" business and have been struggling with insurance... multiple trailers to 1 truck, not covered for downing a tree, not covered to climb on a roof, not covered for this scope of work not able to do that... how in the world do you do it? Does your insurance agent love you as much as mine loves me? I feel like I need to do what ever I can to Make a buck while I am starting up but do not want to go bankrupt if something happens. Any advice?

Let's get real a band sawmill is more practical than that with all it's limitations. You could even use a chain saw mill with a guide to cut a log down to use on a mill taking it more down to size and that is less than $200 for 9 foot and you can get extensions. That rig you have there is not all that portable and has a lot of drawbacks with it's time consumption to use it.

You can easily just pick it up and carry it so if you have a trailer at all, it’s easy to transport. That being said, I bought a bandsaw mill with a trailer built into it.

Just not a question of what’s better, it’s a question of a how much you use it. Better is a fully automated system with a log loading crane most of us don’t mill enough logs to justify that $250,000 set up though. Being a little more realistic, I have helped run a wood Mizer LT 40 fully hydraulic mill. It’s fantastic. It turns the logs for you and pushes the lumber off of the mill onto a side rack. Unfortunately that’s $40,000 minimum. The smallest and least expensive bandsaw mills cannot handle very big logs and are not portable like this system is There are advantages to a chainsaw mill for different customers depending on their needs. You can’t just paint everything with the same brush. I’m all about comparing different options and listing the pros and cons, and then letting people make their own choices.

I’m telling you to try milling with the winch. Things go so much easier. I have a logosol F2# and have used the older model M5 and am very impressed with what I can mill. Great video though!
