I wanted to build my own camera without using a sensor made by someone else, so I decided to build one with a single pixel.

My thinking on an approach would be to keep the pixel stationary, but use lenses and or mirrors to change the part of the lens that is captured. That way you can potentially move the mirrors faster and just have the sensor capture on an interval.

This was also what I had expected. With fine tuning you should be able to get very high resolution with mirrors. It's how the original Virtual Boy console worked, but in reverse.

This is brilliant. One thing id like to see is trichrome it. Get red, green and blue filter, take each composition thrice and smash it together.

Do the 4K photo, set up a place in your house with consistent lighting and just let it go for 4 months.

Clever idea! As a mechanical engineer, I see opportunities akimbo to change/improve on the mechanism. I wonder if a galvo could perform the function of capturing the data of the grid instead of moving the sensor? Then you can reduce the size of the sensor (pixel) and increase the number of pixels per image. Alternatively, CD drives are an excellent source of very precise single axis motion. Put two of those together for the x-y. Faster positioning and probably less noise, both electrical and vibration. Very clever, I hope you stick with this. It "feels" like the images will be very thought provoking with some improvements. We'll done.

It can not work fine. Don't use image sensor with own optics. Use photodiode or phototransistor with flat surface (like SFH 2400). Build separate board with photosensor and current amplifier, to avoid noise from motors. Don't use long cables, which passes voltage, only current. Don't turn motors off. It's time-wasting. Don't stop motor at all. If you don't know, how to build a circuit, which is not sensitive to noise from stepper motors, separate power sources. For example, use a battery to power the sensor. To speed up scanning, use mirrors and don't move sensor.

if the sensor is at the proper focal point, you can sand the lens on that sensor to a flat matte finish to improve it as well. But yes, mirrors are going to be your friend.

@@glowpon3 I think sanding epoxy cover is a not good idea. It will make scene blurred.
