Today in preparation for Fall Double Down we do more modifications to the tow rig! Firstly, we install air helper bags and a brake controller on the Sequoia. Then we fabricate mounts for tool boxes on the trailer, install a 120v electrical system with solar power, and install a winch!

Caleb, you can hook the trailer battery up to one of the wires on the 7 pin plug and it'll charge from your Sequoia's battery. You can even get a device to make sure that your truck charges the trailer but it turns off when the truck turns off. That way your trailer battery is always topped up.

Problem is USUALLY youll need bigger gage wire to be able to charge the battery, and the 7 pin plug usually doesnt allow that. I tried for my trailer and the only thing I could think of was to put a separate connector

@@filipnilsson4624 trailer battery charge is usually only 20 to 30 amps a 12-10 gauge wire is enough to handle that as long as you disconnect the 7 way plug before operating and high load systems like winches or a dump bed

We tried this, but couldn't fit a thick enough cable. Instead we opted for a completely different cable together as it meant that it could be used with any other vehicle without problems

I was going to say this. My duramax, the factory 7 pin harness charges my batteries great while driving. You can add a wire to charge while you drive. It’s a small battery and will charge fine.

An UltraGauge EM is what I use to keep an eye and to alert me for that and more. Highly suggest it for people who like to take care of their cars/trucks

I install inverters on campers for work, just a suggestion on that battery. Install a DC-DC charger. It ties into the 7 way trailer wiring, then you can charge the lithium battery with your alternator.

BTW you can put a snorkel on the Sequoia for about $75. On ebay or Amazon look for 100 Series LandCruiser snorkel. I modified inlet hole to 3" using pvc and fused to to the airbox it takes a days work to install properly, I've had it going on 7 years and it's survived 3 hurricanes a few floods best $75 you'll spend on it.

I agree. I have been watching since Fred the focus days and recently I realized that Gingiums video have always been entertaining to me but the production quality has gone up immensely. The editing is fire and the intros with the random hiding spots haha

Just be advised that LiFePo4 batteries should NOT be charged when the temperature is under the freezing point. The battery can be discharged but NEVER charged. Check to see if you battery has low temp cut off. if not, you should put a thermistor that cuts off the negative of the charge controller at a set temp. Or get a charge controller that has a temp setting.

Careful with teeing your airlines, weight transfer will move air from one bag to another which can be dangerous when turning, seen this happen to 2 trucks when towing heavy. makes the truck crab walk, so not good. best to have 2 separate lines are put in check valves on both lines.

Double check your trailer width is still within DOT width restrictions with that side tool box and huge spare tire. Also loose the rivnuts for the side box install, that is a huge liability you don't want. If the trailer is still within width restrictions replace those rivnuts with bolts and nylon lock nuts, please for your safety and others.

I would highly recommend an AGM, deep cycle or even a car battery instead of the lithium. Sure it’s heavier, but way more capacity and not as temperature sensitive. Lithium batteries do not like to be charged in freezing temps or high heat. Happy thanksgiving and enjoy your turkey!!!

@@kevinpt3 exactly! I was just thinking of it in simple terms of it only being able to charge 3 5ah Milwaukee batteries too. That winch will draw that battery down in 30sec or less.

Absolutely love first gen Tundra & Sequoia 4x4 platform just keep those ball joints and timing belt maintenance up. (And never use aftermarket ball joints they all will snap,Don't get Mooged 😂)

a trailer 7 pin has slots for a trailer battery maintainer. just run from the trucks battery to the right pins on the plug. and then from the trailer cable to the battery. with a circuit breaker of course

Just a thought. Mounting the toolbox on the driver's side puts you in traffic where as on the passenger side you would be on the curb. Also when setting trailer brakes you should be going about 10 mph then hit the lever. The trailer brakes should slow you to a crawl. Then you know the bias is adjusted properly

large external trans cooler and go easy while towing, OD off if possible. The 4th gear planetary thrust bearing likes to leave the chat on pre facelift 1st gens with the Aisin 3040LE

one thing I like to do in cold weather is use grill paint, then just hit it with the torch to instantly dry it if you can get away with it obviously a lot of parts/tools should not be done this way lol

Hey man, so I have a Jeep WJ (99-04 grand Cherokee) I’d love to see you do another budget overland rig, and I’d love to see what my WJ could be capable of. I live in an area where the only “legal” trails and camp spots are 2 hours any direction.

Best SUV to tow is a 2010+ Ford Expedition. The frame is a F250 class and tows very confidently. I also own a 2010 Tahoe. It doesn’t come close to the ford and im a Chevy guy. Expedition gets 12mpg towing and 18-20 empty

Word of advice, be careful with electronic trailer brakes especially with drum brakes. It can cause the wheel bearings to heat up if you set them to aggressively. You don't want a wheel to come off

I’d advise against riv nuts to secure the box+bracket to the trailer if possible. Being in constant tension and vibrating in transit is no good. Through bolt with nut on the back possible?
