I recently retired after 22 years active duty in the military and I am struggling with this as well. To go from leadership roles And a very strong military structure and identity to now being just a mom has been a huge struggle. Thank you so much for talking about this because I think it’s not just athletes.

I LOVE THIS! I'm a big fan of you both. Having grown up with different eating disorders and starting to diet before I was 10, Keltie's "eat the cookie"-attitude changed so much about my thinking. She's fiercely fit and doesn't pretend life is perfect. Such a welcome change from these youtubers that pretend everything is so perfect and life is never hard.

Love this chat, and I love the philosophy of feeling great in your vessel and being able to do everything you want to do. Love Keltie! She’s so warm hearted and real and funny and she has such a knack for making everything she presents to us seem doable and accessible. She has a gift for bringing the anxiety level down and amping the “ just do it cause it’s fun and it makes you feel great!” . The conversation about “I didn’t want to BE a doctor, I wanted to act as a doctor on TV” was great. Both of you having a love for performing for an audience is actually really really important in combination with your knowledge and training because we need people who can engage us with and communicate about that knowledge. No one is going to find all this important content if its dry and boring that’s just reality. So, we all have benefited from both of you having the fortitude to find this unconventional path. You couldn’t have known it at the time and I’m sorry you both had to go through those difficult and painful periods of identity crisis, but you have helped so many people you wouldn’t have reached if you had taken the expected path with your lives. 😊 I have never been much for commenting on content, not feeling I have anything to add, really, but also hearing how much of a toll it can take on your own mental health, i kinda feel it’s important for us, the viewers, to let you know directly that you are appreciated and hopefully we all can help drown out the negativity you are exposed to. 💕

I can relate so much to Keltie's story. I was a gymnast my whole childhood, planned to do it in a D1 school and tore my ACL twice senior year of high school. It really does completely throw you for a loop when the one thing that identifies "who you are" gets unexpectedly ripped away from you. So grateful for her sharing her story. I've always been a fan of hers and I am even more so now.

I loved this - you and keltie are some of my fave KZfaqrs and the topic really hit home - I’m 32 and I did a masters back in my early twenties and then ended up spiralling through a lot of previous mental health stuff that has built up - ended up in hospital for a while after a breakdown- and I’ve spent the last decade totally stuck and feeling like I’m pointless and trapped in this really terrible attitude and can’t seem to claw my way back out so it’s really helpful to hear people’s stories who have managed to find their way back to the light and become amazing beautiful people 💙

Had a mental breakdown in college after years of being "the smart kid." I was in an abusive relationship and my family was struggling financially. We lost our childhood home. I had to take some time off, which meant giving up my scholarship to my dream school and transferring to a regional university. I'm still picking up the pieces if I'm being honest. I really needed this video today. Also, KZfaq demonitizing mental health language is disgusting and makes it hard for influencers, who are often viewed as perfect, to speak honestly.

I personally would never have clicked on a Keltie video bc I don’t have any interest in a video with a thumbnail of abs or before-and-after shots or diet anything. I definitely think there’s a healthy, body positive audience that Keltie misses bc of the thumbnails and appealing to diet culture. This conversation with Abbey revealed who she really is and what she’s about, so Abbey may have just done her a real solid.

great video! two of my favorite canadians… random question, i have struggled with disordered eating and i currently have a lot of friends… like almost all of my friend group struggles with an ed or disordered eating and sometimes i feel like i have to eat differently from the way that i would intuitively eat not to trigger them and it ends up being triggering for me and i really don’t know how to cope with that…
@piau1798
@piau1798 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, just a stranger on the Internet but I felt the need to reply. From my own experience when being a teen with an ed, those group dynamics can be very dangerous in regards to potentially spiralling down and unintentionally pushing each other further into disordered behaviours. It may sound like the standard “go seek help” answer but what helped me was seriously getting behind what caused my Ed and realising it had nothing to do with food really in the first place. If you’ve got the resources talk to a therapist or Ed specialist or something, your next door doctor should be able to redirect you to a specialist. After all you’d go to a medical professional for every other disease, a broken leg, a cold, a gastro intestinal issue - why not for mental health, even more so as eds affect your body. With the friend group I would try finding shared activities that don’t revolve around food or other triggers, so you can enjoy your friendship in a healthy way for all sides 💚 wishing you all the best

Anyone else watch Abbey’s videos while snacking? Currently munching on some Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips and I can’t help but to hear Abbey’s voice in my head, gently suggesting that I could bump up the satiety factor with that hummus that’s just sitting in my fridge. lol 😋

Pre-pandemic I was a wedding/portrait/event photographer for 20+ years. Self-employed, admired, tons of traveling, very social, felt like I was doing something valuable/important, etc. People actually got excited when I told them what I did. And now I'm an imaging technician working from home handling traumatic images/research for a fortune 500 insurance company making decent money with tons of perks, benefits and great work/life balance *BUT* every time someone asks me what I do for a living, part of my soul dies. I'd worked in photography/photo lab industry since 20. Now at 49, I constantly remind myself that I am blessed and no one cares what I do...it still doesn't make me feel better.

Was it covid that forced the job change? Would part of your soul still die if people got equally excited about your new job? Or might people not be quite as responsive because *you're* not as excited when you tell them? Just trying to figure out if you might value other's opinions of you above your own? Or, if this new job really is awful compared to the first, whether you maybe could find a way to re-incorporate some of the aspects you've lost along the way to enrich your current lifestyle & sense of self? Please correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're lacking excitement, variety & feeling valued? If you have the time, maybe you could advertise your skills to photograph an event once every few weeks? Vet them & pick your favourites, then imagine their faces if you waive your fees or donate the proceeds? You must have an extensive portfolio. Surely you'd be in high demand!? Would that reignite a creative spark, excitement & self-confidence maybe? X

I appreciate your desire to assist me in viewing my situation differently but it's a bit off course since you don't have all the information. (No fault of yours and it's very thoughtful.🥰) My partner is a forensic psychologist so we have some interesting conversations. 😂 I got out of photography due to the drastic change in the industry, the changes in client expectations, the lowering of shoot rates and just needing some time to actually have a life. 😓 Before...I could tell someone I was a photographer and they got excited because everyone at some point has wanted to do photography. Now if I tell them I'm a crime scene imaging tech & researcher that has to view images of a persons scalp peeled back and their brain exposed or a 3 year old getting ran over and killed crossing the road with their nana...I don't get the same response. (No surprise.) I actually *love* my job (and company). I have financial and time liberation! Yahoo!! And I do volunteer photography for different organizations, so I'm still contributing my talents. 👍 I have *ZERO* desire to go back into photography. I was just expressing that it was my identity for so many years and now I'm re-discovering who I am. And no matter what anyone says...you're career is a part of your identity. @@hannahmitchell87 *Hopefully my overly long comment clarifies things. I like your upbeat positivity and desire to help others.* 😃

I LOVED this interview! Abbey, you do a wonderful job of asking the right questions and really giving the person an opportunity to answer honestly. I also have to say that I am someone who tends to spiral down the KZfaq hole of diet culture… I cling to the videos you post to remind myself that dieting is not a way of life. I just want to be healthy mentally and physically - the balance is hard out here! Thankful for your content ♥️

I just started watching Abbey Sharpe recently, but her comment that she could never work in a clinical situation is troubling as far as credibility goes. Working in a clinical setting consolidates your education and knowledge. You develop perspective and learn how to apply your training to a variety of situations. It makes you an experienced practitioner. Giving advice straight out of textbook education is not counselling I would advise to anyone.
