This is the biggest plot twist in anime history, everything was calculated, only we couldn't see through it. Back then, who would've thought the man who murdered the entire clan, was actually the hero who prevent something much worse.

His character was so well done. All the build up from all the episodes that you watched since the OG Naruto, every moment he lived, how he walked the earth every day with all that pain inside him, no friends, no comrades, no mother, no father, and a brother he can't talk to and no one knew about it, neither us (the viewer), he took all the blame in agonizing silence acting as the villain to take all the blame. Despite this, he was always so calm, collected and level-headed, he truly cared about protecting the village and Sasuke with all his heart. When you learn the truth, everytime it gets mentioned thereafter, you can still feel some of the pain he felt when he was alive within you. Itachi didn't deserve this, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Itachi has to be 1 of the most well written characters in all of anime. Him being a double agent and after killing his clan he still wanted to protect the village and sasuke , the first time I watched this my mind was blown everything about itachi was so calculated everyone thought he was bad until this episode. He may be the most strongest uchiha he's definitely in the top 5 and he's still my favorite character in anime

The translation of the last words is not correct. Itachi used to tell sasuke “ next time” when he was asking itachi to train him and his last words were “ sorry sasuke next time will not be”

I don't know if you missed it, a lot of reactors tend to, but the last shot of Sasuke's face, you can see his Mangekyo Sharingan awakened.

Honestly, I don't blame Sasuke for wanting to destroy the Hidden Leaf after hearing this. A lot of people give Sasuke sh*t for his decisions, but I've always felt like they were understandable, and thus I've never hated or disliked Sasuke.

I always liked the Itachi since the days of Naruto .. i would find him or really cool and beautiful/ handsome .. and when he died i cried and after i learned the truth i cried like a beach.

Itachi made the best possible decision, by killing his own clan not only he had protected the Village and the Uchiha name but also prevented another World War.He was a Hero but lived being known as a traitor and a criminal. He was a true Legend and one of the biggest Hereos in Naruto.

I've seen a lot of shows and anime. And this was the best interwoven plot twist of any show I've ever watched. Along with gut wrenching emotions. It hit so hard.

The Itachi twist was a massive mindf*ck to everyone when it first came out. The emotional rollercoaster everyone went through was incredible, and I remember that by the time it all wrapped up, a lot of people were on Sasuke's side for Destroying the Leaf Village.

Itachi and Itachis story is overall probably the best in anime

Uchiha Itachi, He is a genius tactician with high battle intelligence, and great interpersonal skill, able to talk his way out of any scenario. A master of deduction. Uchiha Itachi should probably be the smartest and most intelligent character in the anime, he became a jounin, an anbu at very early age. awakened sharingan at an ealry age, awakened mangekyo (by himself at an early age), A TRUE GENIUS. Itachi held back against sasuke for that whole fight, the fact is he had no real intention of killing sasuke or taking his eyes, the battle was all an act put on by itachi. ... itachi simply released it so sasuke would believe he broke it and so the fight could move along. Itachi himself was ill with an incurable disease, prolonged his life with medication just for sasuke, He was still too strong for sasuke. He wanted to free him of Orochimaru and his curse before he perishes, just to keep sasuke safe, he used some of his powers at the end (Amaterasu and Susano).

I feel like the writer wanted you to experience the same reaction that Sasuke felt from the truth.

Itachi uchiha even while dying fullfilled the last wish that sasuke ever made to him and that was that sasuke wanted to see itachi dead on his feet.

For me the "You annoy me" sasuke weeping like a little kid for his brother was one of the most impactful scenes.

Itachi was THEE baddest Uchiha ever! He was so skilled, Sasuke never had a chance...even Toby said to Sauske "if he wanted you dead, you sure would be" and during the fight he did not dodge basic attacks he should have easily avoided. Epic character!

Episodes like this remind me of what made the first series much more gritty and intense than in Shippuden. This episode is unique for a Shippuden episode. The tension is so so thick, you can cut it with a blade. Much as when Kakashi tied up Sasuke, even going as far as to use the same line of "You didn't seem like you'd sit still for a lecture" and that it's "up to him to decide if his words hit the mark". Sasuke and by extension the viewer effectively sit and listen to Tobi's baritone, booming voice, as he methodically tells the story about one of the most critical events in the series. It isn't a story that's forced upon us by the Edo Tensei or some cheap plot device, it isn't a retcon which functions only by plot. It's a classic campfire story which evolves naturally from recent plot events, with voice acting which is SUPER well done for both Tobi and Sasuke.

This was one of the few moments I read before I watched... still to this day, the biggest twist I've ever read in any story. It felt like my world had been turned upside down

The part you forget is that the Uchiha were planing Coup. They wanted to kill the leaders and take over, they weren't innocent.

Thats the millionth time I've seen that part and I still get tears.
