Engine restorer...when you have the right issue with your engine it can make quite a difference! If your engine had an issue with compression it was an engine rebuild or you were out of luck, but now I know this product can help keep you going.
Engine Restore and Lubrication can be used regularly, according to some online sources, at a 5% solution to your oil. Many small engines like this have a 4 quart or 16oz. x 4 capacity. Times that by .05 and you get 3.2 oz. This little Hyundai only has a 1 liter engine and a little less oil capacity so I kept it at 3 oz. and I didn't make sure I got the last drop out.

Take a look around my channel. I've found other things that work. I think these are popular vids because I'm so surprised when things like this works. Every product I tried in the 2000's at best gave a psychological improvement. Reading scientific articles about gasoline additives at the time even said that most such products caused damage and looking back I think I did cause damage trying things.

Wow! Another positive comment brought me back wondering which Mustang engine you have. Engine Restorer helped me save 10-20% on efficiency and gave me more power on a Corolla which would have made 500k miles if not for a horrific accident. I was 1 oil change away from 500k miles. Oh well, the car did its job and was pushed to the max to help save a life.

Recent scientific testing by the Motor Oil Geek. He checked a bunch of additives. Prolong is on the very naughty list. It has what hurt many cars 25 years ago in it. Back when it was all snake oil. . . In my opinion. Now, I do use additives, but what I learned from the motor oil geek is why I've done so well. I've always used less than recommended. Otherwise you thin out the additives you already have and need from the oil you bought.

Nice. Anything wrong with your engine? I'm looking forward to my 1st oil change too. New to me 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage. Already changed it's spark plugs. I've put a little over 3000 miles on it since buying it. I've gotten as high has 52 miles per gallon out of it. I love great gas mileage. It's spark plugs were the best I've ever seen for worn spark plugs. Brown. Fuel injected almost never turns the blades perfectly brown. Generally that means perfect combustion.

I used to have a 1963 Plymouth with a 318 'wedge block' V8. It had a lot of blow-by and didn't have the pickup that a V8 should have. The first time I ever tried Restore was in that car - WOW! major improvement. More power and less oil burning.

Yes! Great story! Lots of history had to been had and seen by that Plymouth! Many modern cars have tiny holes for variable valve timing. That's the only time I'd stay away of from Engine restore, but it's good for if piston seals weren't as good as they used to be.

Used this a number of times on a Nissan QR25DE engine where oil control rings were shot, damaged by disintegrated catalyst getting sucked into the engine. It does work well but only for a limited timeframe, usually got about 500 miles before the engine starting consuming oil at a rapid rate once again.

Thanks for that fantastic feedback! This engine is in quite a bit better shape than that. I only used a few ounces. Hardly the full treatment for an engine that's going away. I'm sure this stuff is risky. Just check out rhkips comment of someone who's used it a lot. (Edited: his comment was pinned until I knew more to pin my own comment.) One of the highlights is that it can clog an engine's oil filter. I'd love to see how this engine does with a high quality oil but with what's going on in the world...I did this because I can't do my oil change which is due. Understand, I'm a change it when it gets dark on my dipstick kind of guy or when I can hear the lubrication not doing as well. This usually means about 5k miles. I haven't even gone 2000 kilometers on this oil and I could hear it needed changing but I was using up the last owners conventional oil when I changed the oil pan. It only got about a quart of the good stuff in there at the oil pan gasket change and another after Engine Restorer caused some oil to burn off. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdqSZ5p5m9CyhJc.html please check out my newest favorite for oils and tell me what you think.

Yeah, COVID19 had shut down all the local legal areas for changing oil so it was break the law or try adding an addittive to improve the performance. Like a motorcycle engine, this oil needs changing 3 times as often as a regular car or truck engine because 1.3l isn't much for 140km/h. Sure, the countty's ordinance was for shops to stay open but they all had someone catch COVID right away. I'd have made that clearer, but at the time any non-news source wasn't allowed to talk about temporary world events without getting demonitized. KZfaq eventually realized this was too big to hurt creators and let us discuss it as a regular part of our lives.

Thanks! I've actually used the product for years on a Corolla that'd be still with us if I wasn't in a massive car wreck over 2 months ago. Engine Restorer kept that engine running on less gasoline from about 420 to 493k mileage on the chassis. The engine was replaced about 293k miles ago which a 150k to 250k mile engine. That engine is a rare one. Most don't get over the 200k's! Got robbed not getting to 500k miles. Been a dream to take a car that far for over 2 decades. Took care of yhat car for a a customer for 200k of its miles and took over restoring it when they weren't willing to make it safe on the road anymore. It needed all of its suspension replaced front and back and it still creaked a bit. It's probably because I cheated out and left the old d links in there. They weren't terrible, just not quiet. Lol My new tires, new suspension, new brakes, none of it was wasted. I needed it all for the maximum response to make that accident less serious and to save the life of the other driver who didn't look both ways before crossing the street.

I'm about 600 miles till my next scheduled oil change. My GM 2.4L Ecotech runs OK, but it does use a bit of oil and when idling and I remove the oil fill cap it seems there's too much air coming out. It's my understanding that if you can detect a very small bit of pressure or vacuum that's OK, but I would say my engines pressure in the valve cover is more than a little. Should I add some Restore now...or wait until my next oil change and add it to a fresh oil cycle? TIA

Well...when it worked worse adding Lucas Oil Full Synthetic Oil Stabilizer stopped it's negative, oil thinning effects. I also went thicker on the oil, but this Hyundai has really loose clearances over what they should be.
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado 4 жыл бұрын
Something else to consider. When you're toward the end of an oil change internal, a few ounces of Lucas Oil Stsbilizer can really help. Oil gets thinner over the time of your oil change. This thickens it a bit. It's better to add it to a hot engine. Realize, if you go for Engine Restore, adding Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer will actually work you turn off the Engine Restore. If you need that to happen, great, if not, with similar issues at the end of an oil change interval, you can just add more of the same oil you had...but there has to be enough space for it. Or...go same brand and type, but go from 0w-20 to 5w-30 or 5w-30 to 10w-40. A few ounces won't change your oil in your cars thickness much but it fights against the oil in the car being older and thinner. Make sense?

Never did a lot of work on Ford Trucks. Does the engine have variable valves or anything like that? The tiny delicate screens would clog up if it does. Check that first. Eh, just shorter-term like that. I might try it even of it does have variable valves. Low compression is expensive. The variable valve screens can be cleaned. One thing I realized in my case is it had to be in every oil change or the effect wouldn't continue. I mean stock this little Hyundai is supposed to have 44 Hp. It had all of 23 wHP getting on the highway. Maybe 25 with a tail wind going downhill. 😆 After? 55 wHP. Better than stock. Engine sometimes had random misfires. The Germans don't keep compression gauges around like we do in shops in America so I couldn't verify it but I'm sure compression was improved across the board.

Use it with conventional! If you're a die-hard synthetic user like me, this was hard to go for, but consideration your circumstances, it makes sense to give it a full try to work at the low expense of conventional oil. 1 one the good companies for this, and often very affordable, is Castro GTX - I think that's their "brand" for conventional oil. Restore works for what it's meant to. But man, looking at that "cream" on your oil cap means there must be a lot of water in the oil. Have been driving many short trips in cold weather myself but never seen it THAT bad. You are sure the head gasket is good? No coolant loss at all?
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado 7 ай бұрын
Really no coolant loss. As the COVID pandemic eased and I did sight seeing the moisture from short tripping was no longer an issue. Saw this engine's internals during some gasket fixes. No signs of moisture anywhere else gratefully. The play across the horizontal line on the crankshaft was excessively worn, but other easy to check internal checks were quite sharp. I suspect the previous owner caused damage with the moisture not changing the oil and the owner before that may not have been much better. Engine internals around moving parts were much darker than that of a better maintained engine. I suspect that's why this engine complained every time I went more than 1000km without another engine oil change. All these additive products had to be sourced from American sources while in Germany. They are solidly stuck with the good advice of proper fluids at proper intervals and you won't need anything else. ... Sure...but some people really drive old cars so...I can't fully agree with their obvious philosophy based on available products and talking to other mechanical professionals.

Whee, long time no see! Apologies for not being around much the last few years; life has been...life! Hope you've been well, though! That Engine Restorer stuff is fascinating. I've used it many times before in high mileage engines, and every time, the butt-dyno is pleased, but my technician-y parts get worried. It definitely contains solids, which scares the crud outta me! I've also had oil starvation damage in a few of my vehicles due to clogged oil filters in 3000-5000 miles; right about the time I'd normally be doing a conventional oil change. I always went on the higher end of the can's recommendations, though. Keep us posted with your findings! Hope you have a happy Easter!

I really appreciate the 411 or information about the issues with Engine Restore and Lubrication. This is a simpler car without variable valves which if I had used it on a more modern car, I could follow up with blowing those parts out, reoiling them, and what not. I have physically moved the rods and camshaft followers back and forth. I trust this engine has loose enough tolerances to survive what others would not. I could do a flush when shops open back up to be safe....but this engine is dirtier than most I've owned as it's used conventional a lot so I may want to skip that. In the camshaft. It literally has little like washer springs between the parts. So I think that's more okay moving back and forth than a couple of rods. I'll see if I can order an oil filter online. Again. I really appreciate your experience with this stuff! The solids include lead, iron, and more that I forget based on Project Farms oil analysis which freaked Blackstone Labs out until they knew he had tried it. Well...they used the word concerned. Lol
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm. No. Didn't use a butt dyno. I used something that is accurate as how flat your road is from one time to the next and if you put the right weight in the app. It used OBD II and GPS data to confirm OBD II speed to help calculate wHP. May have been more obvious if I had my laptop video editor working. I couldn't put the torque screen shots up. Recently, I was doing another lesson on catalytic converters and O2 sensors. For that I'll have to have decided on a new laptop. Indecision paralysis/slash struggles with what Amazon will write a customs form on for Germany had made shopping difficult. In Germany laptops cost way more for less so I'm shopping on Amazon . Com. Found people who will write laptop. $549 for $50. That's all the customs form needs! I'm sure I'm getting my money's worth. 😏 ...but it's good that I spent so little on this car. All that money saved is a laptop easily afforded... You may not know I got this little 1.0 liter 2001 Hyundai Atos. When I searched for it on Google I got no results until I let it do other years. Lol! Similar on KZfaq until I came out with videos. Maybe their AI thinks I'm interested now? Lol They really didn't make many! 5000 units were sold to South Africa and a blogger talked about it when they bought one which was a few years old. The later Atos Prime shows up all the time when I need Atos plain and simple for parts. Online it should have 40 KW/53 HP at the crank and at lower speeds it did have the equivalent 50ish at the wheels in wHP when I first got it, but only at city speeds. So what's special is that this car barely cleared 20 wHP at AutoBahn speeds and it tossed out 53! Sure I've done a lot of repairs but, it never felt like so much so when I got pushed back in my seat and my mouth dropped open, I glanced at my habitual torque app and there it was! I notice that a lot in Germany. Cars have at the wheels what they say they have. So weird! In America I always see vehicles have way less. Do you think they aren't allowed crank numbers? I have to look into this, but the same cars here all have more power too. Apologies but no apologies about the novel just now. It'd probably be a good script to tell about this car. It's just how excited I am to see you and your VW intake picture. A buddy polished one up and I learned what your picture is!

Took care of this car for probably more than 240k miles now. My customer couldn't afford repairs and gave it to me after I kept it going for them for so very long. They got it a used engine just before they started having me maintain it. Was never about oil flushes before but the last owner insisted on it. Helps I think with really old engines start over and burn less oil. Oil is staying much cleaner after 1/3 or a bottle of motor medic flush. It was a lot of fun. Fixed the axle faster than the engine flush could run through in 15 minutes. Took longer to flush the engine and change the oil. Lol

Interesting video! I picked up a can of this at a sale somewhere and put it on a shelf in my garage. It is probably 6-7 years old but has never been opened. Thinking of using some in an older engine, after shaking it up for a long time. I read an earlier comment mentioning that metal bits inside Restore that are meant to help restore compression are hard on engine bearings. This made me wonder if this product is meant to be put in and then run the car for one or two tanks of gas (long enough for it to work some magic) then get a complete oil change. Or, only add a small amoint 'with' an oil change. Kind of like Seafoam only different (I believe it is recommended to get an oil change after about one tank of gas driving with seafoam in the crankcase, due to its thinning/cleaning properties, can be hard on emgine seals). Thoughts?
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado 4 ай бұрын
1st, I don't know if this product can store that long. Try pouring it all out if there's anymore residue in the bottle than whatever would be slow to drip out, it has gone bad. Additives in oil packages go bad, I do not know if this product has those issues. 2nd. Don't use it on a perfectly healthy engine. Use it on something older or something with a compression issue. My nearly 500k mile Corolla did great with this product just like the Hyundai Atos did in the video. I used it for years driving lots of freeway miles. If it was a younger engine performing totally normally I wouldn't use it. 3rd. It does not work unless it's actively in your oil and synthetics typically don't work with it either. My only exception, if it's not too thick is Shell's T line of oils for trucks. Used that in the Corolla and even the semisynthetic worked with Engine Restorer. Total surprise. Normal synthetic car oils DO NOT WORK with Engine Restore. 4th. Consequences. When it's time to change your oil I need engine flushes just to really clean it out. Long before a normal oil change interval engine Restorer will turn my engine into an oil burning engine. For a few thousand miles all was usually well so long as I had done the engine flush. To be clear Engine Restorer typically took a not burning oil engine to burning usually within 3000 miles.

In Germany, you can't change oil at your home unless you have a painted driveway. They are very serious about no oil getting into their ground water. You can't even wash your car because a lot of the dust is from other cars on the motorway. You can use a spray bottle and a microdiber cloth but you can't get your hose and wash your car. They're concerned about that getting into their drains and water ways as well. Repair shops were supposed to stay open but at the time of this video even all repair shops on the local area got shut down. They must have had a scare with someone getting coronavirus. I'm back in America now so of course I can change any fluid whenever I want as a responsible citizen I'd never hurt the land or the environment.

Been a couple years since I've used it but it was the last thing we'd try before transmission replacement. From their website: BG ATC Plus® Automatic Transmission Conditioner PN 310 PN 3106 6 fl. oz. (177 mL) bottle PN 310 11 fl. oz. (325 mL) can PN 31032 32 fl. oz. (946 mL) bottle BG ATC Plus® Automatic Transmission Conditioner helps prevent deposit formation and fluid breakdown. Yes, we do need to get out there and work on something! Germans don't like compression testers. I couldn't ever get my hands on one without buying another one and when you have perfectly good gear at your home residence in America, you let it go, but I did have wHP via the torque app. I went form 22 wHP to 55 getting up to freeway speeds. Even 60 sometimes. At the crankshaft this car wasn't supposed to pull out that much power new! This product, works great with even semisyntheric "truck" rotella t5, I've found many synthetics to not work with Engine Restorer. You picked, probably one of the "perfect" oils for your test!

Makes you wonder. What would engine restore do with a new engine. Or does it only really help with worn ones? Nah, most new engines have physical variable valve timing and I wouldn't risk gumming up the engine. 1 user reported in on one of my videos it doing fine in a Mustang engine which I know had that overly small valve which Engine Restorer isn't recommended for. 🤔

It's tough to say why the 500 mile engine rebuilt failed. There's so many failure points. It takes a lot of experience to build engines well and there can still be issues. I've never rebuilt an engine and if I did it'd be very costly, especially if I didn't thoroughly blueprint the whole engine to be certain every part of it was rebuilt in specs. Would I succeed the first time? I don't know. Was it a full rebuild or was there a specific defect which was repaired?

Went through all the tubing and ventilation when I fixed the valve cover gasket leak. It was indeed vented. Engine restore worked fantastic though. Increased wHP from like 22 to 55.
