Paul Merson reacts to Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Fulham on Soccer Saturday
Alex Iwobi stunned Manchester United with a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Fulham dealt a blow to Erik ten Hag's side's top-four hopes with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.
United had been in superb form in 2024, remaining unbeaten and winning their last five matches, while Rasmus Hojlund had scored seven goals in his last six games.
But the striker was ruled out through injury in midweek and United were toothless in his absence, with Omari Forson - handed a first senior start after being preferred to £86m signing Antony - struggling to fill the void.

Outplayed at the start of season by Wolves, Sheff Utd, Burnley, Fulham but managed to nick the wins. It's simply poor finishing from the so called lesser teams and moments of individual brilliance that has them where they are. If you got what you deserve in football this side would be hovering about the relegation zone.

What is Man Utd’s style of play. He’s been at the club for nearly two years, in that time you’ve seen Unai emery come to Aston Villa you’ve seen postecoglou come to spurs you’ve seen de zerbi come to Brighton. 3 managers who have spent less money and time at their clubs but they’ve already added an identity a philosophy and a style of play to their squads. It doesn’t mean they’ll win every match but when you go to the matches you know what you will be seeing. With Manchester United you don’t know what you’ll be seeing what is their style of play theyres no playing style theyres no patterns of play theyres no tune from those players whatsoever, it’s individual moments that’s it.

Antony signed for £86m (and a 5 year £52m contract). Casemiro signed for £70m (and a 4 year £72m contract). That is £280m Ten Hag has spent on two players that are not good enough and no other club in England would sign. Absolute madness. Would be a sackable offence and likely have the lawyers / board looking at the deal at any other Prem club.

ETH didn't do the negotiating & Casemiro was a Murtough panic buy. Antony would've been maybe £50m when ETH identified him as a target but the club walked away then returned at end of the window after failing to get De Jong. Still obviously not good enough but things made far worse by negotiators.

Antony is a bad signing, Casemiro was vital to Uniteds good form last season. Can't put them in the same bracket, Casemiro was also not ETH's choice, his choice was De Jong. Rasmus looks like a good signing, Mount has been out basically the entire time. Martinez is a good signing and a fan favourite already. This season ETH is breaking eggs to make an omelette. I hope he sees it through and doesn't get sacked like everyone else has when it comes to actually fixing this team.

Man Utd get lucky against Fulham all the time and it seemed like it was going to be another one of those days. Fernandes and Garnacho both grabbing last minute goals and the Mitrovic and Willian sendings off when Man Utd was heading out the cup. Glad Fulham grabbed a deserved win !

I think a big problem for united now is that unless they bribe a player with a huge salary, City, Liverpool, Arsenal and even Chelsea are a more attractive destination for potential signings.

All Eriksen had to do was tackle or trip the bodybuilder Traore but he was too slow even for that. Maguire couldn’t do it cause he was already on a yellow. But tbh we didn’t deserve to win, in fact this could have uglier if Onana hadn’t made a couple of saves earlier. Fulham should’ve even won 4-1, we absolutely horrible.

Normally if you can win when you’re playing poorly its a good sign, but for Utd thats just how they play every week. Sometimes they win, but too often they lose. At best they’re a top 6/7 team. There or there about, but too inconsistent to be genuine challengers.

You are being too generous. As a Man Utd fan since the 80’s winning an undeserved wins is not how I want of my team. I’d be happy losing if we play fantastic, entertaining football. We are none of that. T H unfortunately is not the right manager. We were dazzled in the first few months but cracks appeared soon enough when he couldn’t handle the big teams. Losing 7 to Liverpool and Man city was for me unacceptable. No sign of improvement to the team. Can’t handle his players. Doesn’t communicate well and his lack of charisma doesn’t help. There is no way he’ll get better. Fans need to admit the obvious..sack him.

ETH is having a topsy-turvy season with man utd and yet he is still at the helm. If he is at Bayern, he would have long been history. Every manager should aim to have a stint at Man Utd, long tenure guaranteed.

I think the solution to this man utd mess is to fire Ten Hag NOW!!! because he has lost the dressing room, rarely uses youth, a rigid coach who uses the same sytem every time despite failure & doesn't like squad rotation, then on temporary basis bring a good vibes coach to pamper these prima donnas they might finish top 4 then in summer bring a no nonsense coach like De Zerbi & carry out a PROPER CLEAR OUT. One good thing with De Zerbi is he can do wonders with youth and average players....united won't require superstar signings he will work with talents like Openda, Jonathan Davids, Ivan Toney, Vlahovic, Brahim Diaz, Sergej Milenkovic, Ousmane Diomande, , Johan bakayoko, zubimendi, Latin America talent, replace Rashford with mitoma or Leao etc The only players who can raise big revenue are Shaw, Rashford and Bruno SELL THEM!!! The market is flooded with their replacements
