The corpse train was a real thing not a urban legend. It was called the "London Necropolis Railway" and ran from 1854 to 1941 transporting bodies from London 24 miles to brookwood cemetery.

@@josephdolman There was also one From Kings Cross to New Southgate cemetery. Ran from 1861 to 1873. Although it was in a cutting neither of them were actually underground. There are rumours of bodies being transported by underground trains from a hospital at Whitechapel. But there is no evidence to support the rumours. As the railways were private companies in those days there would be documents relating to the construction. as well as payments for the special trains and disposal of the bodies.

The wild bear went extinct in Britain around the early medieval period between around 400AD and 600AD so it was around 1500yrs ago although they were still importing bears from the Continent and North America,(Canada) up until around the late 18th century. I do like people to whom know there stuff.

I invite Jimmy Carr to my workplace, the building has been there since 1700s, there's 100% some shadow person walking around, multiple people see it at the same time, I've seen it at the same time as my boss, once an entire dining room full of students (around 30 people) all saw it
@evelynwilson1566

@@the98themperoroftheholybri33 Yeah, Jimmy's comment is funny (I can just picture him saying it) but I've worked in old buildings (two were over 500 years old), and while I personally never saw anything, I certainly picked up on atmospheres and knew or knew of people who had sightings. There's something, I don't know what it is but there's something that science can't explain yet. I hate when people say 'it can't be proved so it doesn't exist' - perhaps we just don't have the scientific knowledge yet to understand what's happening.

The beast of Bodmin Moor. Yep it exists. I used to live on the Moor My grandfather, who was a very level headed man, not one for fantasy or stories was out one evening at dusk walking the fields. Says he saw it. A very large cat like creature that walked from one end of our field to the other and then leaped over the hedge. Cornish hedges are about 8ft+. If anyone else has told this story I'd have instantly dismissed it. But not from my very straight laced grandfather

"Chicken legs" (named by Scarborians) is a creepy ghost that patrols the graveyards in Scarborough UK. Its a tall black thin hooded figure (was 7ft tall at least) wraith like figure that has been spotted stalking pedestrians walking along the foot path adjacent the grave yard. It has been seen to hold a large dark sack in one hand and the other a knife like object. Its seen by eye witnesses behind behind graves in Scarborough and moves with frighteningly fast speed. Manor Road grave yard is its main haunt. Reports date way back of apparitions in the grave yard. Seen it myself once late at night. While walking home from town. Scaredthe hell out of me. Was about 16 years old at the time. (1986) I was walking across the road to the central island and noticed a woman walking along the footpath next to the graveyard. I then saw a dark figure raise from a nearby grave on the opposite side of the wall. I shouted to the woman to warn her. She turned around and saw the figure plain as day and ran to the Island in the middle of the road. She ran to the police station and within 10mins the police (3 patrol cars) were at Manor road grave yard. I stayed at the seen the entire time. The apparition slowly dipped below the back of the grave stone and their was a russling sound then silence. I had clear site nothing ran into night away from from the grave. The police arrived and checked the entire area. They found nothing. They stated this was not the first time this had happened and put it down to a drunk or kids having fun. I will never forget that night and i promise you it was not a kid or a drunk. The hairs on my back and the utter chill that came over me was real. I was frozen to the spot and could not move when alone waiting for the police to arrive. Somethings cannot be explained and that incident way back in 1986 made me change my opinion on ghosts and the supernatural. Not everything can be explained. Seeing this article today and hearing of " Spring healed Jack" was a shock. Was this what i saw? Not sure but it appears that its been going on for centuries rather than decades the similarities are astonishing. Just a different area of the country. Reports go back to 1837. I had no idea till today.

I had a terrifying experience once, I'd gone to the footie with my mates, we were watching Leeds, after the game we went out for a few jars, got a bit pissed, after a long night I said my farewells and headed home. I knew my mam and dad were out, there was no lights on, I opened the door and had this really strange feeling that something was not right, I headed upstairs to my bedroom, as I reached the top of the stairs I saw a figure in my bedroom, it was dark with long hair, I was filled with fear, I just stood and stared, it's eyes pierced straight through me, then it let out an ungodly scream, I fell to my knees in terror, " where the f ck have you been, we were supposed to go to the pictures, you twat", it was my girlfriend...

I do love the folklore of my country and spend a lot of time studying it, I also enjoy making and wearing historical dresses. I have lost count of times I have been initially mistaken for a ghost. I was walking through Bath about midnight in an early 19th century dress, it was at the time people were heading out clubbing. Some seemed scared, some thought they accidently time travelled. But one very drunk girl congratulated me thinking I had got married as it was a white dress. One time some American tourists froze in shock. They asked my dad (who was taking photos from a distance) if I was the ghost of the Duchess that once lived in the house. My dad decided to play along and say yes. I guess from being someone who dresses up, my first thought it is a fellow person like myself. But nonetheless I love learning about all the folklore and legends.

Or the alnwick dirty bottles. A pub is famous for is the weird display in one of its windows - a quartet of ancient and filthy bottles on a crate. Ye Olde Cross pub actually closed down in the 2000s but when it reopened in late 2014, the pub was renamed after its long-standing local nickname - The Dirty Bottles. And naturally there is a strange tale behind this most odd window dressing. Over 200 years ago, in 1725, the innkeeper dropped dead of a heart attack after moving the bottles. According to the old tale, his wife proclaimed that anyone else doing so would likewise die. And so the bottles lay touched for years, gathering dust and cobwebs. At some point, the bottles were safely sealed away behind another interior window, but whether this was for historical purposes or to just to keep patrons with wandering hands safe from the curse I do not know. However it should come as no surprise that this old pub also boasts of having a ghost as well as a death curse. For allegedly the ghost of the unlucky landlord is reputed to still haunt the pub, reportedly rattling glasses and swearing at patrons.

Its apparently to do with the leyline that runs beside the road and the neolithic site kits coty. There was a car accident in 1960s and a girl killed shes always seen just about halloween. Even the police get calls from motorists who think theyve run someone over. Even people who dont know the legend have seen her and called police.

Been loving your series of UK videos. I live on the outskirts of Dartmoor, the last entry in this video. There have been many stories of the Hounds of Dartmoor. I remember when I was a young boy, seeing stories in the papers about local farmers finding cattle dead, with neck wounds and most of their innards eaten away. The type of thing you would expect to see from a predatory big cat. There were theories about escaped zoo animals but nothing was ever confirmed. There was another such story based not far from Dartmoor, The Beast of Bodmin. Very similar to the Dartmoor stories.

The school I went to was named after the daughter of a local philanthropist. He used to fund the school back in the early 1900's and his daughter would come with him when he visited it. She eventually was passed the responsibilities and was made patron. She fell pregnant out of wedlock yet the man was pressure into marrying her he left her standing at the alter and filled with shame and heart break she went to the only place she felt happy. The school, she climbed onto the roof and jumped to her death from 5 floors up onto the cobble stones. When I was at the school they decided to brick up the windows to her old office after the police received numerous calls from locals saying someone was in the school late at night despite that room being constantly locked.

I'm sure most people are aware of the story of the Pied Piper, but in the town I used to live in there was a similar legend called the Flute Meister. It was a tale born of grief after several missing children cases in the area, decades ago. It's said that a tall, dark man shrouded in shadows would lurk where children played and play his sweet flute music to lure them away. His tunes would capture their hearts and souls and lead them to his dwelling, where the children would disappear for week or months on end. Most were never found at all. All of the kids that did turn up again (not many) had the same experience. They said the night before they were 'abducted' the would have the same nightmare. Like sleep paralysis, they'd seemingly be awake in their beds when the Flute Meister's shadows would creep through the cracks on the walls, and the music would start. It would compel the victims to go to their windows and look outside, where he was waiting in the woods. They would follow the music that spoke to their souls into the thick forest, where they'd be led by The Flute Meister to their demise. People say he would only let you see him up close when he led you away, and then you'd be forever searching for him again, driven mad by the now eerie flute music constantly playing in your mind. They say if he liked you enough, or if you managed to compliment his music through the hypnotized state you're in, he'd teach you to play just like him. There was one case where someone freaked out at a person playing the flute in the square, because it was apparently the same tune The Flute Meister played for them when they were a kid.

Also, have a look for the story of "Owd Nance" at Burton Agnes Hall, the whole of Derbyshire (honestly, just about every place there has at least one ghost), Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, Mary King's Close (because there's more than just the story of Annie) and Grey Friar's Cemetary, also in Edinburgh and The Lawn (which used to be an asylum in Lincoln). There's so many more I could list here but I'd be here all night. :)

There are many great spooky stories about Edinburgh. One of my favourites is the tale of a building being renovated in the Grassmarket... in the old bricked up basement they discovered a skeleton chained to a keg of gunpowder! Seemingly, the fuse to the gunpowder had gone out and the man hadn't died in an explosion, instead he had died later through lack of water or food, still chained next to the gunpowder. May be true, maybe not, but still a great tale!

In south Birmingham, England, we have an area called Selly Oak, named after an ancient oak tree which once stood in its centre (there's still a plaque commemorating it, dated 1909). Legend has it that a woman called Sally was once tried and found guilty of being a witch, was executed and buried in what was then a rural location. The oak tree is supposed to have grown on the exact spot that Sally was buried and became known as Sally's Oak, which over the years became Selly Oak. Highly likely of course to be an urban myth, but I've always thought it was a good story.
