WE"RE REACTING TO ANDOR FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!
In an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue, Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a Rebel hero.
About Star Wars Andor:
Andor, also known as Star Wars: Andor, is an American science fiction television series created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+.
Beginning five years before the events of Rogue One (2016) and A New Hope (1977), the series follows an ensemble cast of characters during the time that a Rebel Alliance is forming in opposition to the Galactic Empire. One of these characters is Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually joins the Rebellion.
Andor was a vital part of Rogue One, the team that ultimately succeeded in obtaining the Death Star plans from the Imperial facility and uploading them to the Rebel Alliance. He and every member of Rogue One gave their lives to save billions of others.

Back then, Nemik said of Cassian that he “ had nothing” and that’s why he slept so well. This time, Cassian is the one who doesn’t sleep - because he is now a true believer and a true rebel! Yes. Kino said it. He knew from the start he was dead. He had to begin right there. His choice was exactly as Cassian put it: to die on his own terms, fighting the Empire instead of giving them what they wanted, for every other man in the prison that could swim. He had to wrap his mind around the idea *he* was never getting out, and then he did something astonishingly selfless. His "one way out" battle cry was also him crying out his own death sentence. I love how you paralleled Kino's sacrifice to Luthen's. Kino absolutely was one of the heroes Luthen needs. Because of his leadership, how many men escaped and survived to tell the galaxy what the Empire was doing? *Love* Kino Loy.
@przemekkozlowski7835
@przemekkozlowski7835 2 ай бұрын
Kino also knew that most of the men who broke out would not make it off the planet. The escapees who know how to swim, still have to be strong enough to get to shore. Once on dry land, they have no food, weapons, or even shoes. They have to find a ship that will get them off planet and will not turn them into the Empire for a reward. Kino knows that the breakout is condemning hundreds if not thousands of men to their deaths. However, the Empire has gone too far and he considers it worth it now.

I wouldn't assume Kino didn't make it. And thing is Andy Serkis has been doing press for season 2 of Andor, so...a lot points to Kino making it after all. People in precarious situations like that tend to help each other. So I'm guessing someone else helped him ashore, after Cassian inadvertently fell off the ledge. But I agree about Kino's thought process, and that he probably counted on becoming stranded on that ledge.

The body language was exquisite during Mon's meeting with Davo. Mon and Tay sat stiff, upright, close. Davo lounged, spread his arms, crossed his legs...he was in control of the discussion and knew it. Kino knew they were surrounded by ocean, and he knew he couldn't swim. Yes, "I'm making a sunrise I'll never see" also applied to Kino. But the sacrifice of everything by Luthern and Kino must also happen to Mon Mothma as we know it will happen to Cassian. I think that's the ultimate story of the birth of the rebellion: The rebellion was birthed by those who sacrificed everything.

"I share my dreams with ghosts" Still my favourite line in Star Wars. It could mean, 1. Luthen is haunted with nightmares in his sleep from what he's done, 2. His "dreams" as in ambitions/goals are shared with people who already died and became ghosts, and 3. "ghosts" referring to Luthen's rebellion being from the shadows instead of open combat.

"And what do you sacrifice?" "Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion, I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my - my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is - what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my LIFE to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? EVERYTHING!"

Luthen's speech is truly astonishing. The writing is top-notch in general in Andor, but it really shines in that speech, and the delivery is so powerful. Also, Luthen is such an amazing character, someone who embodies "the goals justify the means", in contraposition to a more noble and idealistic Mon Mothma. But I truly believe a ruthless and dark Luthen was needed to kickstart the rebellion and him sacrificing his morality enabled the more idealistic rebellion led by Mon Mothma and Leia to have a fighting chance later on. And Kino's speech is also so great. While we, the viewer, change our perspective on him during these 3 episodes, I don't think he changes that much. He always cared for his fellow inmates deeply, the fact that he was strict was mainly to keep everyone out of trouble, because he thought that was their best chance to get out of there alive: work hard, keep out of trouble and when you complete your sentence, you can go free. That's why he was so sad when Old Ulaf died, he was so close to being free, to validating Kino's point that being so strict was the right thing to do, because Ulaf got out. But Ulaf didn't get out, and actually noone was getting out. That's why it was such a shock to Kino, because he realised that everything he was doing to keep everyone as safe as he could until they could get out was for nothing. Once he understood that, he was on-board with trying to escape, because he knew it was the best chance, not for him, but for everyone else. He is a true hero.

Clarification: Mon Mothma is at a particular impasse on two fronts. Firstly, she needs to justify the "disappearance" of 400,000 credits from her family's wealth to the Empire; and Secondly, to have a cover for any future transactions done in the same manner. Davo Sculdun's "assistance" would only help her with the latter, in order to keep funding Luthen and the Rebellion, but she still has to justify those 400,000 missing credits... The level of quality in this show's script is astounding and I can't point it enough.
@kirkdarling4120
@kirkdarling4120 2 ай бұрын
Davo is also supposed to cover up the previous loss as well. But here is something I've thought of: Davo is the consummate expert in covering the illicit flow of money, and he probably knows all the "usual" places illegal money can go. Once he gets into Mon's accounts, it can't possibly take him long to figure out where the money is going.

Squuueeeeeeeeee! One way out! Kino knew he'd have to swim to get out. That's part of the reason he was so hesitant at first I believe. Luthen is the one willing the do the dark, dirty work to accelerate the demise of the empire. Mon, as much as I love her, wouldn't have gotten the rebellion to that point. I love the nuance and how this shows that it's not all good vs evil when it comes to a greater outcome. Sometimes you can't get there on kindness alone.

It's yet another example of a new tone and style of Star Wars that we've never been given, but one I want more of. Writing like that is so much more important than lightsabers and Force powers and space battles. I want more characters as complex as Luthen.

A small detail I think you may have missed. Go back and look. Kino says "Climb!" repeatedly... Karis yells "Climb!" just before he dies... and "Climb...CLIMB!" is (almost) the last thing K2SO said to Cassian and Jyn before he died. I think there are a few others. It's a recurring theme that is sort of hidden in the dialogue. There is even a song on the soundtrack simply titled "Climb!" :D

The 'One way out' and 'I've sacrificed ... everything' scenes back to back is incredible. They spent half a season building to those moments and nailed it. This episode has everything Terrific writing and actors, as usual [although those speeches were a cut above anything else - even for this show] And this one showed off the superb practical prison set (probably filmed on the 007 stage at Pinewood) - in terms of how actors can climb up on things, the moving lifting stock - the stuntman flying backwards over the railing [so old school, and so effective! (I actually cheered!)] And, for a show with very few action scenes - they nailed every beat; the editing and music were fantastic when shit kicked off ... Just like with Aldhani, and episode 3 - when you DO get an action scene, it's flawless - and genuinely exciting to watch; gripping in fact! ... And having few action scenes makes each one have more worth in terms of "realism" - something special and worth looking forward to, completely earned by the build-up and characters It takes a brave show to have whole episodes without any action scenes in them - but building up the tension for when everything goes off the rails (or over them backwards!) This is a brave show

History is full of people like Kino Loy and Lonni Yung: nameless and forgoten to all but those who know what they did. All wars have their generals and their statesmen. Their diplomats and their soldiers. Their war heroes and war criminals. Yet we only like to focus on the more positive sides of conflicts: the heroic freedom fighters and the cunning generals and admirals that claimed victory or never gave up against an overwhelming enemy. It's one of the biggest lies We tell each other: "Our side won, and with a few exceptions, We all did our part in fighting for the right cause!" What rubbish!

Kim, they made some action figures from this tv show, but i don't think they made any of the Prisoners into action figures, or the Ferrix workers, they are the main characters besides the police and the imperials

Kino’s monologue is one of the most rousing speeches I’ve ever heard to motivate people….and it’s not even the best monologue in this episode! Luthen “What do I sacrifice?” Will be a staple used in acting classes for years. What a masterful moment!

I think Luthen is a Dark Jedi. A Jedi that has gone over to the Dark Side of the Force. He's using the means of the Dark for the ends of the Light. Now re-watch his monologue with that in mind. "I share my dreams with ghosts..." "I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy..." "A sunless space..."

This is why this arc and these reactions to it get to me. This is a maximum security facility. You have no idea what scum of the Galaxy are in here. For every crime imaginable. Thanks to Andor's criminality some people here might not be guilty of crimes warranting this place, but they are here because of what he helped do. You're like YAY!!! Vault heist. No care on who that heist affected. Because if you were in this universe, that effect might have been yours. This is literally how propaganda works haha YAY Prison break!!! No care what so ever on what you just cheered in to fictional existence. How many of those people you cheered escaping are going to find a way off this planet to murder a family or worse? They are prisoners. And not political ones. Right off the street criminals. You cry for the old man dying but they never tell you what he did to get there. And that's the point. So how many prison breaks in your area have you cheered on in real life? hahahahahaha

Ulaf was there for years. You dont get such a sentence for noting. Also the anti empire people ( rebels ) are hanged or shot in 90% of the cases, which means most of the guys here are hardened criminals type Skeen or worse, way worse. P.S. Also no one thinks about the guards who are just dowing their jobs looking afther the bad people.
@kirkdarling4120

These were people cleared for labor detail. I don't think they were the worst of criminals. The prison guards would wind up having to fry so many of them so frequently that it would be a constant disruption of workflow. Incorrigible criminals would wind up being too much trouble than they're worth, regardless of the security of the facility. More likely, _nobody_ in the work prisons were serious criminals...the Empire certainly imprisons enough people who aren't serious criminals.

I'm from Australia. During the covid lockdowns the local government in the Northern Territory handling the aboriginal settlements in order to comply with demands for covid mandates threatened to cut off food and water (they dont directly say this, its always a euphemism) to the town if they didn't take the shots or they could come with them to what was essentially an internment camp called Howard Springs. Several young aboriginals ended up going to this camp under what was basically coercion and upon finding out what it was they led an escape across the desert. You can bet what the media portrayed it as, "irresponsible youths threatening the public", with the typical lemmings sitting safe in their suburban homes shaking their finger in disgust at people who wanted to be free. You can bet that in this fictional universe, if reported at all the escapees from this planet would all be claimed to be terrorists and rebels worth shooting on sight, while safe core world people on coruscant bay for their blood. Thats an example, from a first world country thats not even 5 years old
