The principle of an EGR valve is to return exhaust gases to the intake in order to burn part of the gases a second time and therefore to eliminate certain harmful particles.
In itself the principle is functional, except that in reality the fact of sending gases into the admission while an engine requires oxygen to operate is rather counterproductive.
on the one hand an engine is not supposed to be powered by gases,
on the other hand this system which works with a "valve" locks very often in the open position.
yes because the system locks when the engine is cold, and as soon as the engine reaches an optimum temperature the valve opens by depression.
Often therefore the valve is blocked because of the temp in the open position which lets in gases even when the engine is cold.
Furthermore ! the carbon which accompanies the gases tends to stick to the walls of the intake manifold, which slows down the arrival of fresh air to the engine. you will have understood this system has many more negative points than positive.
We find ourselves on this good old 4D56 engine shared by the pajero / galloper / l200 with a displacement of 2500 cm3 and a power of 99 hp this engine has no electronics that manage the engine. this is why on this version it is easy to condemn the EGR valves, in addition to making a little space in the engine compartment to intervene, the operation is simple.
- disconnect the vacuum hose
- undo the 4 screws that hold the EGR valve
- insert the plates with gaskets
- reattach the EGR valves
- replace the air hoses
- and that's all :)
