Yeah but if the guy infront slows down enough, makes space on the outside/racing line by moving to the inside where he basically tells them to come on over...who has there to learn something then?! I agree with the respect the footage stuff, its never fun getting reminded of crash. But just man up about it, dont look for excuses and tell the thruth that everyone can see, he was simply to late with reacting on someone else his mistake. Just like with any other job someone is working at, mistakes will happen 100%! nothing to be ashamed about but definitely not a reason to look for excuses.

Guys, love the channel. I was passenger in the GT2 and feel a lot of the comments pretty unfair. We were spinning (or over rotating), and if given some room when when starting getting out of shape (it is a GT2, and the furthest thing from a drift car!) this painful collection (for both) could well have been avoided. Either way, Matt’s getting to repaint the GT2 in a colour he’s always wanted, and Phil’s also going to be carrying out even more upgrades - so, I guess, in this crazy world both are getting something out of an otherwise dim situation! @jeremys1019
@jeremys1019 3 жыл бұрын
Dont really agree with your comment here and feel its a little out of place. You came in too hot to a corner, trying to overtake when you shouldn't have; and then making out if you were given a bit more room, you might not have caused a crash. In honesty there's quite a few things you could (and should) have done before that, in order not to have caused the crash. It shouldn't have been you needed more room. You shouldn't have been there in the first place! Even then, you managed to spin back rather than go with the spin to take you out of the way!

It seems nobody in the comments know how Porsches work. The engine is in the back. And so is all the weight. So when they spin, the car naturally wants to go backwards, FAST. And as you explained you could have given him more room, but hind sight is 20/20. If the Porsche were a front engine car it would have spun like you expected it to. But when the Porsche regained traction and went backwards right toward you in a hurry. There was no reaction time in the world that could have saved you. And I think all of the other video of your driving skill proved that. The Porsche driver doesn’t know how to drive a Porsche. The number one ruled driving a Porsche is you don’t break/lift while turning.

However, I place a lot of blame on that Porsche for making an overtake that he his driving skill couldn’t back up. Way too aggressive. He was out of his league. And this was during a track session, not a race… Guy doesn’t know his limits. Yes, shit happens on track. But don’t try to be a hero or impress people… Kudos to you for having such a great attitude! Oh come on. The Porsche was trying to drift the corner and didn't have the talent; and then when they lost control, they didn't boot the throttle but instead let the car go across the track backwards out of control. Maybe the corner could have been handed over earlier, but it's a track day, drive within limits.

Huge respect for owning your part of what contributed to the crash. Quite clear to see how you made those split second decisions and it looks like you had a good chance of flying straight around him, throttle down. Can see the hope of passing him, escaping the hazard and getting it into your rear-view mirror where you're totally clear of the hazard rather than braking and trying to steer clear of lots more unknown potential hazards depending on how it spins and which way you steer. But i really hope the other driver owned his (huge) portion of the crash and was extremely apologetic. That pass was a terrible idea, plan and execution in every conceivable way.

Get rid of the fire 🔥 on decel. It's going to burn anything regardless of material. Whoever is doing your tune is dumping fuel with the throttle body closed. It super heats the exhaust and will melt the converters out of the car. The Murci also has flames rolling over the GT1 body that's irreplaceable. You gotta remember that the low pressure area behind any car in motion is like a fan blowing at the back pushing the fire into the bumper even if the pipe extends out 3 inches. Looks fine on a Dyno, blows back into the car going over 30.

There is next to no run off on the left and I ended up with a ton of oversteer when I turned right.. I absolutely knew I really didnt want to be crossing the track backwards going off to the left I knew there were at least three cars going fast behind me, I absolurely knew crossing the track would be a real pain, so I kept my foot in, pinned, and I oversteered nicely to the right, didnt actually spin, sort of gathered it up on the grass. Hate to say it mate, but this was as much your fault as it was the Porsche drivers'. You did brake way early for that turn which forced the Porsche driver to run wide and probably panic brake. He still had way too much speed to carry around the outside, especially as you swerved all over the place. As soon as you saw his back end stepping out you'd have needed to let off instead of accelerating. That steering correction you needed to make because of your acceleration is what finally caused you to run into him. In a racing scenario, this would have been a "shit happens" moment, but on a track day where you literally have nothing to prove to anyone, you should have just swallowed your ego.

I am sure his rear quarter and intake area don't look too good. And yeah, bad time to overtake, I'd have waited until coming out of corner. All the best on the rebuild mate.

@@alexh1218 If you’ve ever been to a circuit for a track day you will very quickly learn that ‘racing’ is the number one thing not allowed. It’s a track day so technically it is not racing… 🤦🏻‍♂️ Overtaking is only allowed under certain conditions, usually along straights and on the outside of the circuit. If you are the slower vehicle you are asked to slow down and pull over to allow the faster car to pass. Most circuits don’t even allow lap timing to prevent people pushing too hard. These are track days, not race days. They have far fewer Marshalls and the drivers have far less talent than professionals. Plus the cars are, in most instances less suited for track conditions compared to a race prepared vehicle.

All those attributing blame one way or the other are clearly driving gods. Both drivers could have done things very differently and Phil had more opportunities once it started going wrong to get out of it all as he said in the video. Being way off the racing line prior to the corner opened the door for the GT2, and don’t agree it was the standard sort of overtake under braking. If I were the GT2 I’d have seen it as someone letting me through who would slow down substantially more going towards the corner. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

@@driftworks I mean, yeah... but you were in the throttle when the first car was in a major oversteer, and the second car hadn't even come close to passing you. I'm not saying you're entirely at fault for the collision because it obviously wouldn't have happened if the Porsche drove within their and the car's limits and picked a better spot to pass, but there's a good lesson to be learned about track days and hot shot drivers. For amateur drivers to pass on the outside in a high speed corner like this presents many opportunities to make errors, which would have undoubtedly been at the forefront of my mind when these cars tried to make the pass here. Just think about GPs held at this track and how infrequent and high intensity the passes are in this corner. There's a reason for that, because the risk usually isn't worth the reward.

It was the Porsches choice to try to pass on the outside, it was his mistake to try to corner faster than his skills allowed, or was trying to drift (needed much more throttle). The BMW should have braked hard the moment the Porsche started to drift, possibly he thought the Porsche would just continue off the track.

Nice build, sorry about the crash for both you and the other party. You might want to consider selling the doors, if they are genuine M3 items, to someone restoring an M3. (They are M3-specific as they lack the side strip of the standard E30, as you probably know). I like the reinforcements in the front wheel well and the state of the chassis looks very clean too. The 'jacking point' you refer to is actually a receptacle in which the frame went that was used during manufacturing to move the body-in-white around in the factory back in the day.
