I understand what you mean. Best placement i got was i think Nr 15 with the evo (top 100 on most courses in most classes) and its even more of that with the Keyboard i can tell ya. Either go super fast with the best car tuning or crash n restart. Mental breakdown if you crash close to the finish line because you "wanted to much"

i found tarmac harder with the group b cars. actually with any car. but thats just me.

The sound design in racing sims is underrated. Squiking, spinning, blockked, skidding tires have different sound. Audio must be immersively informative. (sorry for spelling)

I managed to hold the record for a few rallycross tracks a few months after the game came out. Now I think those times aren’t even in the top 300

@@savereport8788 I remember when i had DiRT 3 on steam i almost broke actual legit WR(cause there were some cheaters at top places) for one of stages in monaco for group B with the Audi Quattro S1 and i played it with keyboard with basically only abs on and nothing else. It was fun but also hard and intense cause the stage was quite technical with very little room for error in first half of stage and yeah i had a couple mental breakdowns aswell until i gave up and was basically #3 in world only beaten by two guys who were about 0.2s faster than me

it's not that hard honestly. i'm a shit of a driver and i got in the top 100 in jarvënkila. took me about 2 hours.

is it just me or changing the settings of the car make next to no difference? i feel like setting up your car on dirt rally 1 was super important but in this game it seems to be completely irrelevant.

@@white_mage It actually does make the car different the settings you make have to reach to your preference or your driving style Edit 1: Oh your talking about Dirt Rally 1 and not 2.0?

The Delta S4 always struck me as among the easiest Group B cars to drive tho.

@@white_mage it does make quite the difference. Some settings do get you way more gain then other do tho. Gotta know whatcha doing if you wanna gain anything.

@@white_mage it definitely does for me even changing the camber does alot for mid corner and changing the final gear can gain a lot of time for different types of tracks

I don't understand this comment section at all, so many comments echoing the same 'top of the leaderboards are all sweaty nerds with cuts and cheap tricks'. I competed in both World Series events and got to the quarter finals in both iterations. This stage was part of one of the qualifiers and literally nobody cut this course anywhere and they would've if it gained any time. That dumb nascar bank gains basically no time and it's risky to get a proper exit with it. Show me the cheap tricks, cuts and weird 'rock bounces' or wall bounces people are talking about because there is nothing special on this stage. His driving was alright but he went wide a lot meaning he never got the power down early enough from what I was able to see between the jump cuts in the editing. I love his videos but some of the viewers really do think that if he cannot get close there must be some sort of reason, well this time the reason was that he just was not very fast.

This is what I've been thinking the entire video. His run WAS fast, but the fastest guys are driving this game as if it was Trackmania. Finding every single possible cut and shortcut they can utilise to shorten the distance. If you don't know these, you will be a few seconds short every time.

@@varyagace Not true... Some of them do but definitely not all of them. I know a few guys and I've seen their world record runs that are as clean as a whisle.

@@SimsRacingDesign not really, basically every WR in the DiRT games are exploiting the physics in one way or another. just 'cause they aren't cutting the track doesn't mean the aren't exploiting the game, if you find the right options combo in the setup menu you can really cheese this games physics & none of the fast setups really make any sense.

@@SimsRacingDesign You're right but they also know maximum allowable track cuts to the game, that's always been a huge source of time in dirt stages.

I'm personally happy to be in the top ten with H1 and H2 FWD (3rd places), top 50 with R2 and Group B 4WD on Col De Turini Depart, with the Peugeot 205 H2 i had the WR in early 2021 but someone managed to snatch 7secs of my time

Im masztiff and i think if find the right setup for the Lancia the car was amazing drivable and one of the best experience in dirt 2.0

@@kaporezim That's definitely not the case for the very best of the top drivers. I have set a fair number of world records, mainly in Spain, and I never use walls or illegal cuts to set my times.

@@SimsRacingDesign How much difference does the setup make? I know that in some simcades there are some "secret (aka ridiculous)" settings that can make a lot of difference.

@@PbPomper you can gain some extra time with weird setup things but I've never done that. I'm no setup guru. I'm usually just adjusting the brakes and gearing, nothing more, and I can get close to or even set a world record.

Yes this. Back in Dirt 2 (I know, its a bit more arcade-y but still) I was one of the fastest guys around. At that point you know every single thing on every track that can go wrong and how much attention it needs to avoid it. For the rest its driving on the absolute limit with knowing details like when to upshift for better traction out of corners for example and how much you need to slide in certain corners. Its so much fun though once you get the hang of perfect runs.

Imagine having F1-like attention for 3-10 minutes straight, rally esports runs are insane.

if you want a laugh look up the poland wrs, they just straightline the stages using fields and risky cuts through tree lines it's extremely impressive but it's more like trackmania or something at that level, just hoping you get good bounce rng

@@PyroIndigo yeah the trackmania analogy is spot on i think. that's why weekly and monthly event leaderboards are much more relevant to my playstyle, which is "when in doubt, brake a little bit" :)

well, this is all because of SHITTY PHYSICS of this game. The reason why I almost hate such pseudo-sims.

I didn't know the suspension was that integral. Any tips or principles for setting that up?

@@mack4691 in my experience configuring suspension is a similar process to gearing (or even like setting steering degree on tarmac) you essentially want to have the travel and springs set for the max load the car will experience on that stage; any more 'give' than what is necessary just reduces precision and control. (use your judgement of course, for example if the stage has a section with deep ruts do I really need to sacrifice stiffness for that to keep speed or can I find a good line without loosing control?) If the game supports it you can use the telemetry data on your best run as a guide for what you need to adjust. Unfortunately if the game doesn't have replay data you'll just have to experiment, which is why checking the leader's setup can save some time, just note that camber/toe can also make a big difference but since it's more of a driver's preference, the leader's settings may not suit your style 👍

yeah, im pretty sure you are right. i still use the handbrake though. jimmy did a very respectable attempt here, h pattern with clutch, heel and toe shifting and at first no handbrake. im not sure if he used one later, i couldnt see one on his wheel setup. (but he did jokingly mention the strategy was to handbrake every corner). these cars can be VERY understeer prone.

yeah I did this too, very effective on both turbo and non turbo cars
