I've been developing a BlueRetro adapter that I can use with my Nintendo Switch Online Super Nintendo controller. But after I put my latest PCB together, I learned a valuable lesson...
In this video, I explain my BlueRetro adapter project, go over some information about the BlueRetro project (including some schematics), and show you how to populate a custom PCB by hand.

Thanks for the soldering tips! I have a couple projects and wish I understood more about electronics and schematics including integrating the BlueRetro onto the SNES controller board so it would have onboard bluetooth instead of having to plug stuff in and have it hanging outside of the console.

Very good and informative video. One note though: de-coupling capacitors also function as super small batteries, so immediate power is available for the gates inside the chips. When gates shift, they need immediate energy for a few nano seconds, while they are switching. Inches/centimeter "long" power wires/pcb traces would slow down the passage of energy, so there might be a voltage drop, at the gate that is switching. The power storage in the de-coupling capacitors ensures full voltage is maintained, at those very short time intervals when gates switch stages. But perhaps this is what you meant by filtering things?

Yea I don’t know the technical details, I just know it’s a good rule of thumb

Extremely cool. I've been hearing "blue retro" for a while but I hadn't done a deep dive until today. This is really exciting! Cool project, thanks for sharing!

If there's one thing that has given me the most headache in schematic capture it's definitely reversed connectors.

This is very cool. Funny enough is just recently I've looking into BlueRetro to use on my Playstation 1 for multiple controller ports and possible my other consoles as well but everything has been so confusing. Your explanation helps a bit. I'm hoping to build one eventually. Thank you.

Oh man, I NEED one of those BlueRetro SNES adapter boards! I assume your intent is to make the design public at some point, if it isn't already? I would love to order one for myself from PCBWay. The range of my old 8BitDo SNES Bluetooth adapter leaves much to be desired, and if I could build my own replacement I would be so happy.

Other than the thrill of using a DIY solution, what is the benefit of this vs an 8bitdo receiver that’s ready to go out of the box?

You can connect two Bluetooth controllers with a single adapter, which should make this option cheaper than buying two separate adapters. And it's even more cost effective for consoles like the N64 which will allow 4 controllers with a single adapter
