@@Too1998 The block is based off the V8. However, the machining of the block is different, so as to machine two less cylinders. The block footprint between the V6 and V8 is the same. The heads are different however. Some would say it's a bad idea, but I suppose it helped elsewhere. No need to redo other parts of the car (engine mounts , suspension etc), which would save alot it development time.

The thing about the P300 is that it makes a lot of sense in countries with oppressive car taxes, like Ireland. The taxes are ludicrous as the engine power increases with the emissions. A new F-Type V8 here, the cheapest one, is €170,000! Even the P300 starts at €110K. But used, the P300 can be got for a price the average Joe could at least consider. A 2019 model can be had for €60K. Not cheap, but doable. In countries like this, or the Netherlands, or the Nordic countries with very high taxes on emissions, you're often left with cars like this as the only option unless you're wealthy. A bog standard, no optioned 911 costs €189K.

Exactly. In the Netherlands cars with decent engines are prohibitively expensive. Of course you want the V6 or V8. But if it’s two or three times as expensive…it’s annoying but it is how it is.

Im a Jag man and i don't consider a 4 cylinder turbo to be a worthy engine. On top of that, I've only ever heard bad things about the ingenium engine, petrol and diesel. Jaguar began getting lost when they discontinued the XJ they got further into the doo doo with the introduction of the 4 cylinder ingenium and are way way off the map with this suicidal move to all electric. A fantastic brand with heritage and pedigree flushed down the toilet.

You have to remember that Jaguar and LandRover sell cars in markets other than the UK (well, they at least try to). Many markets make cars above 2-litre massively expensive to buy and/or run with much higher road taxes. Furthermore, that 2-litre engine allowed LandRover to sell the Evoque, which aimed at getting the styling appeal of the full-fat Range Rover without the running costs. That straight-six would have been a gem of an engine to go into a Jaguar vehicle but I don't think it ever did. I don't think that Jaguar, or anyone else for that matter, have any say in the matter whether to go to all-electric or not.

There was a channel on KZfaq where the guy did little mods to his XF. He had an X250 V8 NA. He then bought an X251 2.0ltr turbo and said it was awful. He sold it quick and bought an X251 XFR.

A quick comment regarding V6 versus V8, sure enough, they are all designed with two cylinder banks working in the same crank, but to design an optimized engine you have to consider the primary and secondary vibration as well as the power band of the cylinders. The V8 has quite an advantage here with almost perfect symmetry and overlapping power band, i.e. when cylinders act with overlapping power strokes, the optimum angle between the cylinders in a V8 is 90°. To counter the vibrations the V6 is better balanced with a 60° angle. You could even that out and counterbalance that with balance shafts counterrotating and swinging weight but with added weight and complexity.

I had the V6S for 5 years. Beautiful car and the noise it made was superb (especially once I'd blow 7k on modifications taking the power to 420bhp). Interior was a disappointment as Jag used those really annoying rubbery buttons that go sticky after a few years. I do miss her though. Someone said that the F Type is like a TVR that had discovered build quality which sums it up as not much can touch it for looks.

In a lot of European countries, anything above 2000cc becomes very expensive. This is why they are made. Hence why I have a Golf mk2 syncro country, Golf GTI, Lotus Elise and Integrale Evo2. They all are very fun in their own way and it doesn't break the bank to tax and insure them. Soon as I go anywhere above 2000cc the costs increase at an alarming rate.

I have one of these. My reasons for going for the 4 cylinder version were: It’s 50% more powerful then any other car I’ve owned. I don’t know how I’d get on with more power. My wife uses it as well. I wouldn’t trust her with anything more powerful. It was quite a lot cheaper than the V6 and much cheaper than the V8. I think it’s one of the best looking cars available. Maybe there’s something wrong with my taste but I think that cars are getting uglier nowadays and I wanted to do something to fight back against that trend.

As the owner of a Ferrari Daytona and a V6 Jaguar F Type I guess I should have turned off the film after the first couple of minutes but then we don't all have the same taste (I love the looks of both cars and the F Type's V6 sounds great). When I was looking at F Types a few four-cylinder ones did come up, but they seem pretty rare here in the States. You're right in that from a cost point of view they didn't offer any advantage over buying a one or two year older V6 especially as I ended up buying one with virtually no miles on it (and in all honesty I picked mine as it was the only one available in 1,000 miles in the lovely British Racing Green Metallic). I'm not sure if they offer and insurance or annual VED savings over a V6 back home?

The reason Jaguars weigh so much is that they are built to frankly incredible strength standards - comparable kerb strikes to Land Rover vehicles. I know an engineer that told me about the ‘kerb strike test’ hitting a metal lined 1 sq m at 50kM/h with the front wheel and the wheel alignment is supposed to be unaffected. Details such as XE having the same wading depth as a BMW SUV - they are basically massively over specified

Er, no; that is not how all six cylinder [V] engines are made. For a start, a V8 is almost always a 90˚ V - this being optimal for the timing of an 8 cylinder V. A V6 is, as Lancia first demonstrated in 1950 with their V6 first installed in the Aurelia, optimally a 60˚ V (Ford confirmed this when their new V6 appeared in the 90s). The anomalies generally come when a single crankcase design is adapted - possibly the most well known is the V6 in the Citroën SM - this was a Maserati V8 literally with two cylinders lopped off; the Douvrin PRV followed a similar route. In a reverse move, Ford took two V6 engines and mated them to produce a 60˚ V12 for Aston Martin.

The F type interior is one of the best for sure. Everything falls into place perfectly. My 2016 model still has many physical buttons which is a bonus. I'd like to see more Jaguar's on the channel. Torque is within the ZF8's limit too..... I don't have any issues with the block..the car is 200lbs lighter. Glass roof. Forged (not all the 20" oem wheels are forged..in fact very few are) oem wheels. Superb looks on all angles...most of us think the rear is the best in the world ever....sorry you are a spoiler guy. V6 car has LSD, active suspension, aluminum metal paddles....ambient, coco mats... The V6 sounds like a 1970 F1 car and to me, in a land of mustangs, corvettes, and camaros, is way more cool. Keep that in mind. The v6 tuned is the way to go....bonkers car....3.8-4.0 not dumping it....to 100km/h time.... Sleeper cars. Also once you replace the coolant pipes with metal ones, super reliable.

A reminder of how poor Jaguars product planning, particularly in engines(drivetrains) has been over the last decade or so. They missed the whole hot petrol estate sector because estates were diesels for sales reps on the motorway. How lost they became in the shadow of Land Rover, and how their head start with the iPace became the abandonment of their electric product stream.

Great video as usual..on the Ingenium engine, prior to 2019 they ALL have timing chain issue.its more common on diesel as they sold more. I had a lovely XF but got rid of it as was advised the quality of the Ingenium engines is awful, timing chains, turbos, engine leaks (mine had 2 at it was 2017 plate)! Older jags and v6 or V8 all the way

Happy owner of a 2020 P300 here in the states. Yes, I drove and loved the V8 before pulling the trigger on the 4 banger. So why did I do it? A couple of reasons. One is that I really care more about steering feel and cornering more than acceleration. The P300 has plenty of pace as a daily driver. Any more would put my license in danger. And when I really want to play, I'll take the motorcycle. Second, I'm mature (old) enough that the snarly burble of the 8 just seems obnoxious. All in all, I love the car. It has, to date, been flawless.

4 bangers do belong in sports cars. They DON'T belong in Grand Touring cars. The issue with the F-Type (former 550hp R owner here) is that the car tried to shoot the gap between GT and sports car.

@r.mtn.7477 2 ай бұрын
Presumptuous semantics. In fact, the P300 F-Type behaves like a sports car because of its significantly lighter nose and model-specific suspension/steering tuning. As for it having "tried to shoot the gap...": In my opinion, it succeeded admirably, as I can attest from two years of ownership (2020 convertible) and the car's flawless performance. 295 lb.-ft. torque from 1500rpm is plenty of muscle for vigorous, everyday driving, especially if you're not obsessed with winning drag races or setting track records.

I drove the chequered flag 2 litre last week. Still a beautiful car and fast but im not a fan if the turbo and the fact that you have to keep it beyween 3-5m tpm to get any decent exhaust noise, which in turn kills fuel consumption, probably more than the v8. I reckon id drive the v8 more sensibly and get giddy with lower rev exhaust noises, rhus saving fuel too. The car feels a bit wrong if in honest. The v6 126, was designed like that due to the vehicle having passed its crash tests easily with the v8. The blocks the same size so therefore missing having to pay for crash tests on the v6. Massive massive cost saving for the business. I can’t see how it’s “unforgivable” what penalty is there really? The engine block is aluminium and it’s light.

Yeah, you are wrong. Lots of people think Jaguar is still living in the bad old British Leyland days, which is great for buying used - real automotive bargains to be had! I'm on my 4th Jaaaag and none of them has been unreliable or the money pit the doomsayers predict. It helps to find an independent you can trust and stay away from dealers for maintenance, of course. Keep on top of the maintenance and it'll serve you well, so long as you do your due diligence when buying. Fuel and tyres will be your main expense! 🙂

Mixed with high insurance and in the top end for stolen vehicles. Does the F Type fall into the same categories or are they bucking the trend for JLR vehicles. Or should I spend my money on a V8 Lexus instead? Would like your opinion as whatever I go for it’s going to be expensive.
