In this video I’m working on a 2016 Chevy impala with a 3.6 LFX V6 it was towed to my shop by a friend of mine and he told me he thought the starter was bad. It doesn’t turn out that the starter is bad it actually turns out that the engine is full of water so it is what’s called a Hydro locked. I’m gonna show you the steps and procedures you take in removing the water and in the situation the engine actually had bent valves but more than likely that won’t be the case and this is the first time out of about 20 of these that I’ve done that I’ve never been able to get the engine to run. So it is extremely uncommon that you will not be able to get yours to run either. It is important that you take the water out as quick as possible because we don’t want things to start rusting on the inside of the engine. It seems like people don’t realise the extent of damage that water can do to an engine. Do they think that it stops because it gets wet, and will just need some time to dry out? 😂

Omg I just got my car back from the dealer shop. One week ago. I had a a new reman transaxle placed in and just a couple of hours ago I was driving home in the rain and exited the highway and drove through a puddle that I didn’t see in a dark ramp. My car immediately slowed down after the huge splash of water. I was 7 min away from home and I had to pull over with my kids because it felt like my car couldn’t drive. I don’t know what to do or who to call for help.

Pull the spark plugs, cross your fingers and pucker your butt cheeks!!!!! Grab a ratchet and socket Put it on the harmonic balancer center crankshaft bolt ……. And pray like hell… I think I describe it pretty well in this video so you may want to give it another watch through. Sorry to hear that hopefully everything works out for you brother.

That's exactly what happened to my car today 2017 Chevy Impala 3.6 blew all the water out and it would only crank by hand a little bit back and forth like you just did it would not try to start whatsoever so I have whatever that's called trainee warranty to hopefully they cover 100% Ford new motor because I think event the rods or the valves no crank whatsoever

Hey Clay I guy in my neighborhood I met him last week he was on the side of the road with a flat so I stopped and got him home well two days ago he called stuck in a wash flooded his van its not locked up so I got all water out should be running today what is fair price to charge him

Well that was cool of you , I would say it depends on how much time you have into it he could’ve also had a locked up engine and if he would’ve took it anywhere they would’ve told him that he needed a new engine most mechanics will not remove water from Engines because they don’t want to be liable. Personally you probably saved him $3000 at the least I would guess so I wouldn’t think it would be unreasonable charge him three to $500

Sounds like you’ve got a little bit of water in it and need to let it dry out pop the hood. Let it sit in the sun Obviously I’m not there so there’s a possibility that you could have something else going on that I’m not aware of but over a text message and from your brief description it’s probably just soaked with water after you’ve let it sit for several hours try to start it and keep trying to start it for about 1520 minutes keeping it running and hopefully it will I’ll pass through luckily the engine is not locked up

I’m sorry Grace I don’t mean to sound like a jerk this is a text message… but your question is the name of the video. So you would have to watch the video. Personally I would have to assume you need to take it to a repair shop and have them take a look at it it’s probably not a good scenario but you won’t know unless you take it there…

@@sharpcarco thank you, for responding so quickly. I did watch the video, thank you so much for that, I even subscribed to it. I also sent it to my son (his car) for his friend to watch. He mentioned that there was water in air filter but not much, water in take and hose to turbo, no water sign on the oil stick. So he cleaned spark plugs. Now when he push to start it sounds as if it was spiting but won’t turn. He checked if gas was going through and it seems it’s not. Do you know if there is a kill switch for fuel pum? Thank you again

It’s possible but generally if you’re driving a vehicle through a mud puddle and water gets up into the intake Hydro locks the engine and sometimes Bends the valves, what do you want to do if you believe your engine is Hydro locked is remove the spark plugs. Then try to turn the vehicle over I’m very sorry to say I hope that works out for you I also should say if your engine is bad Insurance may cover it

Hey Clay, I accidentally drove my 97 accent threw a puddle of water and at 40 kilometers per hour, started shaking when I put my foot on the gas but still idle smoothly, after a few seconds it ran normally. Was it normal?

Well how’s it running now? That’s definitely not normal. The only thing that you would have to do is possibly change the oil and thank the Lord that it’s still running hopefully it just got a little bit of water up in there not a ton of water. It should be OK if it’s OK right now.

Hey my car was hydrolocked and I managed to get as much water out the cylinders as I could I replaced the spark plugs and changed the oil and oil filter I replaced the batter my engine turns over and crank but it won't start any suggestions on what it could be

Well I can’t tell you exactly what’s going on with your car but I can tell you if it’s turning over you’re very lucky obviously you need to check for a compression spark and fuel.

Because a mud puddle consist of mud and a water puddle consist of mostly water

There's something that you completely forgot if he got all that water into the air filter why not just replace the air filter then you you said it was a lot of water inside the chambers you blew them out you supposed to vacuum pump it out vacuum it out not blow it out vacuum that water out and then you didn't even mention the fuse box he probably blew a few fuses and that's why the car is acting the way it's doing and you can't tell whether car is locked up until you try to start it up to see if it even turns turns over and did you check the starter to make sure the starter is still all the wires disconnected nothing loose and then the alternator did it short out though it wouldn't stop the car from starting it would start up on the battery but the alternator could have been damaged to and short it out so a few other things could have been shorted out

Ok 👍 well I guess you forgot something…… I already knew the car wasn’t turning over because ………… the crank didn’t move…. Sometimes things are done for video reasons doesn’t necessarily mean that I skipped anything………
