On the last day of my suspenseful trip to Mombasa, I knew I had to go out strong. Locals had told me about a local liquor in the area called Mnazi, or palm wine. Trying new spirits in Africa had always led to fun experiences in the past like meeting my new wives or running from cannibals, so I was interested. Little did I know, I was walking into a trap, and it was only the most interesting man in Mombasa who could save me.

That guy "everybody knows me" I grew up with him he's so honest, he was so friendly at home, he grew up as an orphan since 8, he used to call me brother because my mum used to offer food and shelter to him and his sister (who her whereabouts still unknown). But i mean, you go to open market in an obviously rough place in a 3rd world country but in the safe tourist area.. it was probably really in sabs best interest to give them a $1. He spent like $10 not $50. Dude got him his drink. Bananas. Got him there and back safe. Made sure to take on the ppl trying to harass him. So many of these videos the guy they go with just kinda stands around and watches while others bother the person filming. This guy was running full defense. I think the issue ppl have is that they are looking at his actions through their own eyes and not his. If this was America and an American did that to him. Scam. It's a 3rd world country! He literally did a favor. It's easy to look down on him from our comfort. I just got fast food. I order my groceries pick up. I grew up without a lot of money and it wasn't a big deal even coming from that situation for me to go to school and become a systems engineer. Not needing to try and tour guide random tourists to make good money. I live in a place with law and order.i have a closet full of clothes. Heat. Ac. I live so comfortably i choose to take care of a pet. I buy the pet high quality food. It would be so easy living like that. In a place where living how i am isn't even middle class. And call him a scammer.

@@deenzmartin6695 maybe, the "scam" would only work on foreigners though, and in the end what did all this cost Tom, maybe $20 USD? Especially in Tom's case (or any vlogger) he earned exponentially more with this ~750,000 view video than whatever the guy scammed out of him. Plus whether he's a scammer or not it's useful to have a local with you telling some of the more annoying beggars to get lost (like the people from the bar who followed) and it can help avoid actual muggings/assaults as well. Someone like Tom who's not a big, strong looking guy, who presumably has no combat training, he benefits a lot from having a guy like Masdin around, even if Masdin is attempting low-level scams and expecting payment at the end.
