I'm no longer an owner operator but I don't regret it at all. It was really fun and I loved the freedom that it gave me. If you're thinking about becoming one don't let this discourage you from giving it a try.

Freedom is the way. Young man I have never seen your videos. This is the first one i see. As someone who was a owner operator for 7 years then had to go back to company for 8 months and back to owner operator. Trust me, fight for your freedom. It is worth every single minute of it. My truck blew up... so i was forced to get back to company. May not be profitable right now but the time will come and you better be well established as a owner operator is all about the relationships and how good of a sales man you are. Spot market is difficult right now try establishing some shipper relations. Rates may not be so different but when you have a contract then you can talk about growth. In the spot market this is very hard to accomplish.

What state do you live in......what region are you running...ect ect.....this matters 100% in trucking business......yes you have to work hard but smart......what your operating cost?....i cant really give any advice with knowing the details......but what i will say is quitting/pivoting is not the same as failing bro......

The point is not you failed, the point is the current market and conditions aren’t conducive for an owner operator to be successful. I left the industry 4 months ago because I was done operating at a loss nearly entirely 2023. I accepted a 6 figure logistics manager job which has me legit making my 6 figures, full benefits, home nightly and relatively stress free living now that I’m able to work on resetting my financial situation for myself and my family.

My biggest gripe with being an O/O was dealing with the scamming mechanics and brokers, and also the fuel cost. Other than that I enjoyed being an O/o but the hustle wasn’t worth it at the end of the day. Anyway, I sold my equipment and I feel so free and happy now. Do what’s best for you. Don’t feel guilty about walking away. Rather you’re a company driver or O/O, you’re still winning at the end of the day.

I started as an Owner Operator in May, and I have very little to show for the hard running for 2.5 months at a time, with 1 to 3 days off, because of break downs. I'm over 60k in repairs since getting the truck May 26 of this year. I have a no turn in lease purchase from Lone Mountain, so I'm stuck in it for 3.5 years. I made more money as a company driver operating on a 1099 tax form.

I don't understand why owner-operators are quitting. From my understanding, a true owner-operator can still net $3500-$4000 a week. Are you a lease driver? Are you with a company? Because, let me give you my numbers. If I gross $10,000, my fuel is about $2,000. My percentage is about $2,000. My truck-trailer insurance is like $2500. You know? So, it's a lot coming out on my end because I'm a lease driver. And I'm still holding on. But I'm seeing a lot of owner-operators folding. If I was an owner-op, my truck, my trailer, my plates, my name, I could retire doing this in this market.

Go with a union company pay hourly. People don't calculate all the benefits of company driver hourly. Sick pay vacation pay pension etc. Who cares you have to listen to something. You still have to listen as owner operators to your wallet meaning you still need to work. There is no shortcut to it. The problem with owner ops is there is no barrier of entry for anyone with 2 years experience to become owner ops. You can give any company driver 2 years they can become owner op too...making profit is another problem.

It's better to be a company driver just drive and don't worry about gas and maintenance bills let the bosses pay all bills

Why don’t you lease on with another company that has dedicated freight?

@NellWorld Try Scotlynn Commodities. They have a newer terminal out of Florida but you can reside anywhere. 2023 Pete 389, KW W990 and 2024 Peterbilt 579 available. Its mostly reefer work but still

You didn’t fail! Take your tractor and lease with JB Hunt , Land star or Shenidar, and pull a dry van for any of them. I always wonder why folks stress over flatbed trucking with all the stress to chain, tarp and strap in the winter, in the rain, snow and sun! , with all the risk of items flying off ur trailer and causing an accident, stopping every 50 to 100 miles to re secure loads, that stressful!! I drive for a mega carrier as an owner operator in the reefer division, the money is not bad, u can make more with your tractor leased out to any of the major carriers, they have the freight . Also u will have ur freedom to go home, choose your own loads etc , it’s better than been a full company driver! Good Luck!!

You're delusional. There’s no money to be made as an owner operator leased to one of the big companies. I worked up until last month with JB Hunt and never cleared more than $ 2,000 a week. Thank goodness never had trouble with my truck or I would've had to sell a kidney.
