I finally conquered tretinoin in my anti aging skincare routine. How to use tretinoin to boost collagen. How I use tretinoin in my skincare routine.
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video we are talking about Tretinoin and how after many attempts I finally conquered tretinoin and have been able to create a tretinoin skincare routine without the sever side effects for the best anti ageing skincare routine.
Tretinoin is a high strength prescription only retinoid which has some amazing anti-ageing benefits for the skin. It has however some big side effects which you have to work your way through before you get to the tretinoin benefits at the other side. If your skin can tolerate tretinoin then using it consistently can increase the rate of cell turnover for smoother skin, fade hyperpigmentation and boost collagen to minimise fine lines and wrinkles.
Tretinoin is however one of the most sensitising ingredients in skincare and its not for everyone which is something I want to share with you in this video today. This is how to use tretinoin and tretinoin for beginners
There are a lot of other retinoids on the market so its worth considering some of the other to start your skincare journey.
I would love to know what your experience has been with tretinoin and any other retinols so let me know your tretinoin before and after stories
If you have enjoyed this series then please let me know by giving this video a thumbs up and a like which really does support me as a content creator.

Could you kindly specify the exact name of the tretinoin cream in the UK? Because when I asked for tretinoin from my GP they prescribed me a solution as opposed to an actual cream that was a combination of tretinoin and antibiotics which I've never even heard of.

I had the problem of irritation while using differin gel. Tried the sandwich method but still had it. So I stopped using differin. 3 weeks ago I gave it another shot and now I can even use it on my neck and chest acne with almost no irritation!!! My secret: I use the sandwich method BUT the base moisturizer is LRP Cicaplast Gel B5, let it sit for 20-30 Minutes, than apply differin gel and on top of that a layer of LRP Cicaplast Baume B5. I love that combination, my skin hasn‘t looked this good in years! 🎉 Love your videos ❤

I've been using Tretinoin 0.05 six nights a week for the past five years. It took me two or three prior tries before I was successful. The times I failed I was following the directions on the prescription, i.e. apply to a dry face and put moisturizer on afterward and use every other night. Then I started watching Dr. Dray who advised using moisturizer first, letting it dry and then applying Tretinoin. I also watched Angie of Hot and Flashy who advised going REAL SLOWLY, one night a week for the first month, two nights the second etc. I did work up to every night but found it was just too much so I backed off to six nights and that seems to be my sweet spot. I hope my experience can help someone else be successful with their Tretinoin journey.

For me, glycerin is a game changer. I add a drop of it to my toner and moisturizer before applying. My skin improved just in one day and now I can easily use tret every night and only buffer with ceramide toner. No irritation or peeling anymore, and my skin is so smooth the whole day.

You are my last bullet. After 2 years trying *ALL* the brands, %, frequencies, methods, etc,... my derm has told me that tret is not for me. My skin reacts producing mini pustules constantly. The antiaging results are otherwordly✨ but wth, living witj constant active inflammatory lesions is a pricr that I cannot psychologically afford😓. I' m glad you found the way🖤. Edit: I forgot to mention, Saint Derm is the actual man of my life😜. We met more than 20 years ago, he healed my acne after 6 unsuccessfull derms, removed my scars and has always solved all my issues🙌🏼

Great tips! I am back on tret after a 6-9 month break. I switched brands, and the new formula is too spicy to use without a petroleum based moisturizer around my eyes. Even though it's the same percentages I started with in the beginning, and I never had to do this before. I will keep that in mind as I go through this journey and switch from brand to brand/ provider to provider.

I’m sooo happy Tret is working for you. Even after 9 years of use I cannot use it every night, after 4 days I get redness particularly at the top of my cheek bones. Now I’m using every other day alternating with your Retinal oil. I also have two strengths of Tret, 0.025 and 0.05% and just let my skin tell me which one it wants 😂. On nights I use Tret I put A-Game 5 on my neck. Thank you for putting this important message out. More is not more, less is definitely more! love you❤xx (BTW your skin looks gorgeous as always!)

I smiled when you mentioned putting lip balm round the eyes, nose and lips because it is such a good tip and something I have done for years round my eyes. I have not tried tret because it is prescription…I think I will try your retinal oil though. I use an SPF lip balm round my eyes because every other SPF stings my eyes. Even mineral ones (the joys of blepharitis linked to rosacea) hurt my eyes, but a petroleum based SPF lip balm doesn’t migrate. As a bonus a lip balm round my eyes also blurs my lines.

I think using high quality Retinals like A313, the Ordinary's Retinal and Adapalene helped me transition recently to Tretenoin. I use the Elf Holy Hydration twenty minutes after applying and then Cereve lotion, or sometimes La Roche Posay Cica Baume and have had zero peeling. I am so happy with the glow and just started. I keep my skin very hydrated all day and lots of sunblock. I am 51 but people generally think im in my upper 30's. No wrinkles! I suffered cystic acne my whole life so think all that oil saved my skin as i aged. Afraid of what menopause will do to me, so jumped on the Tret bandwagon and am loving the results!

Hey! I'm a new subscriber that to happened to stumble across your content and I have been loving all the videos! Its very informative. I'm curious about your take on notion of Western vs Eastern skincare for anti-aging. When it comes to reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, do you think investing in mainstream retinol/ tretinoin products from brands like Paula’s Choice, COSRX and Some By Mi are more effective than going for Traditional Korean Hanbang options? Specifically, I'm wondering if splurging on premium panex ginseng brands like Sulwhasoo, Donginbi and The History of Whoo justifies the higher price for better results. What's your perspective on this 🙂?

Glad to hear you’ve conquered tretinoin! But I still don’t feel I’ve learned much about the way you use it. Do you do your full skincare routine with toners, and serums before your tret sandwich? Do you let everything dry before or apply as a usual skincare step? If you’re using tret or retinal every night when do you use the copper peptides? Are you using the regular tretinoin cream or a micro gel (slow release)?

The big problem people eat a lot of sugar and trans fat that aged the skin. Foods high in sugar or refined carbohydrates affect collagen fibers. This process is called gyration: the sugars attach to the collagen in the skin, causing it to harden and damage. I am 67 years old I also massage my face and I use good nutrition I have no wrinkles at all. And I use cheap skin care, collagen and vitamins, which is important for healthy skin that is not expensive shin care.

Here in the Netherlands we can't just go to a dermatologist. You have to get a refferal from your GP and he/she has to have a reason to send you to a derm. That reason will be heavy acne and not for anti aging. You don't get a refferal for that. I don't know if there are any Dutch people here with other experiences? Your skin looks amazing Rob!

I was only ever to use it 3x a week and NO OTHER retinoid without issues (I usually have extremely strong skin. I get frequent high % peels with no issue) and was never happy with my results. I’ve found daily adapalene gives ME better results than less frequent tret. But I have to wonder if it’s due to the issues we are focusing on. I’m 26 with hormonal acne and just a general anti aging effect without fibe lines and wrinkles. I don’t know you’re age (your skin screamslate 20’s!) but if your issues are different I wonder if that plays a part. Idk just my skin nerd brain always wanting issues😅 Also, I use the sandwich method with adapalene and TO new beta glucan moisturizer is THE BEST first layer. It sinks in completely which allows better absorption but over time strengthens and insanely hydrated your skin! Plus it’s sooo cheap I use it every night and every day as my morning moisturizer and it lasts around a month for less than 20$!

I started dermatica tret last year and was good then was so drying. I'm alternating now with allies retinal and seems ok. But i stopped the subscription cos the expiry date was ridiculous! I used it 2 ore 3 times a week now and it's basically expired cos apparently the shelf life is about 3 months. I mean wtf? I do like it as it has azelaic in it as well. I might have to look for another brand.

So I made so many mistakes with Tretinoin, firstly I bought the 0.1% which was way too high to start off with, i started using it every day and started purging and flaking like crazy. Finally figured out how to stop the flaking. Firstly I apply COSRX Sanil Mucin, then I apply Clinique moisturising lotion, then I apply the tiniest amount of retinoin, then I finish off with Egyptian Magic all purpose skin cream.

@@MadAboutSkin the dermologica one is way to expensive ahha but I’ve found it truly works wonders for those with grade 3-4 acne who are too sensitive for adapalene. I never recommend products that expensive but for a certain specific group (sensitive with severe acne) it really is 100% the best option

Omg I had a horrible experience with generic tretinoin. I tried for years to make it work and just could not tolerate it. Now I do have very dry sensitive skin and I have papulopustular rosacea which makes my skin even more sensitive. But I switched to a different dermatologist and she put me on ALTRENO and omg what a difference. I’ve been on it for 7 months and I’m on 5 times a week gradually increasing. No irritation at all. However before starting ALTRENO I had to get my skin condition under control 1st before moving onto tretinoin. So I highly recommend for people who have had a bad experience with generic Tretinoin to ask there derms about ALTRENO.

I can't find information that Altreno is also anti-aging. everywhere information only about acne. some blogger said 4 years ago that Altreno has not been studied as an anti-wrinkle agent, so it is only prescribed for acne, there is some other form of tretinoin in there, so maybe it doesn't have the effect of rejuvenating the skin like regular tretinoin. did you get a prescription for Altreno anti aging or anti acne?

@@netkotov3767 I actually had the same concern when I asked my derm about this medication because I wanted it for anti aging. she let me know that it’s the same tretinoin as the generic version it’s just encapsulated with hydrating and moisturizing ingredients to make it less irritating and more tolerable for those with sensitive skin. I also did my research on it and I found dr shereene idriss here on KZfaq talking about it. Just search her name with altreno and it should pop up

I started using tretinoin last march after just a few months of using the Ordinary's granactive retinoid. I started once or twice per week and peeled around my nose and under my eyes for the first 3-4 times and that was about it, after the first two weeks I was already using it 5 nights per week (the other 2 nights I use acids). My face skin is incredibly forgiving, which is remarkable considering that I have atopic dermatitis on the rest of my body in the winter and also my scalp is very irritable and flaky 😅🤷‍♂

I received a prescription for 0.05, but insurance won’t cover it-so with a coupon, it’s about $70. Before I make that investment, how does 0.05 dose match up to the highest dose over the counter retinol? I know you aren’t a doctor, but I trust all the time and research you’ve done on your own journey.

Unless something has changed very recently simple tretinoin is not even available in my country (Czech Republic), only in combination with antibiotics or some other medication/ingredient, and therefore only prescribed as a temporary treatment for severe acne. I used to be a bit upset about it but after 3 lasers (CO2 and erbium for acne scarring) my skin stopped tolerating adapalene that I'd used without a problem before so I really doubt it would tolerate tretinoin.
