dude your solid stop worrying about pr now and focus on your longevity. you will hit 47. thats not a question. you need to sustain 47. the reason you think he let off is because in reality that athlete is proably dealing with much more pain from previous injurys or just over training. he may BE faster but to run that fast cost his body more. Just be easy on yourself man. 50 is already fast you WILL pr if you keep it up dont hurt yourself trying to do it too early ! but good shit either way you are already an athlete that the world is keeping their eyes on

Love the feel of coming from behind in a 4x4. The extra adrenaline always had me split under 50 even though my solo 4s were mostly in the 52,53 range.

congrats man! I've been following you for about a month and this was really exciting to watch. I'm a lifelong distance runner who's decided to try sprinting for the first time. As a 33 year old with no background in sprinting, your videos have been a great source of knowledge and inspiration. keep crushing it!

That was a great 400 and 4x400 anchor leg. That was so great to watch and I can't wait for more content from your journey. That last chance meet is going to bring some good times. Just give it your all because that seems like it's bringing good results so far. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot man, your support through this whole process has been much appreciated. The end of season 1, as I think I am calling it, is coming up fast but I'll keep the content rolling after that. We definitely gave it our all at the end of the season and I am pumped to put out that video on Friday

It’s been a lot of fun following you. I’m a former swimmer-turned track athlete. I’m looking to break 50 in 2025, would love to do a podcast some time to talk about training, what you’ve found to work, not work, etc. let me know if this is something you’d be interested in.

simon how would your hand move if you dropped something and instinctively tried to catch it? that's what you need to do on hand off. slap your teammates hand with the baton they should feel the impact of the baton and close their hand naturally. but more important it should be a swift sprinting motion with your arm

Hi friend, I'm French so I don't understand everything you say in the videos (sorry). I would like to know, how many times per week do you train? I saw that you do a lot of speed sessions, but do you also work anaerobically?

that 4x400 was solid I think getting out that hard should be ur race strategy for the open 400
@SimonShawk5
@SimonShawk5 22 күн бұрын
Thank you! I agree, and in all honesty I TRY to run the open 400m like that. For some reason, when I am in competition, my block starts get completely messed up and I struggle to accelerate. I think I just need more practice and experience since this was my first season racing out of blocks and I only did it a "few" times between indoor and outdoor

Lucky for you I have them all documented on my channel under sub 48 project! Quick breakdown is speed work -> short distances long recovery, lactate work with varied distances and recoveries but usually 200s with short-ish rest or 300s with pretty long rest, slowly worked down to race pace over the year, and that's the simple version And then a lot of lifting and a bit of speed endurance like 80s, 120s, 150s I plan to make quite a few videos about 400 training in the future because I have been working as an assistant coach for my team and studying this stuff for years so maybe some of that will help you out too

The different collegiate divisions have very significantly different levels of performance. Lots of high schoolers could beat my times, for example, as you noticed, but that is because I am a D3 athlete. D3 has much looser recruiting standards and cannot offer athletic scholarships, so the athletes often are not elite. That contrasts with division 1, where the top athletes are often at the level of professional athletes before they even graduate. To be clear, though, there are some absolutely fantastic D3 athletes. It is just less common.

Based off relay split u should be running low 49 in open
@SimonShawk5
@SimonShawk5 Ай бұрын
I agree. Something about being in a race scenario really messez up my starts, probably because I don't have much experience using block starts in races and I get nervous/overthink them, so I assume that's why the gap between my splits and my open time is so big, because obviously I get a rolling start in the 4x4 and don't have to worry about the start on the same way

hey i’m a senior in hs and looking to run track in college, i talked to the track coach. bluffton a bit and i was wondering how you like the school?
@SimonShawk5
@SimonShawk5 22 күн бұрын
Hey! Cool to hear that you're interested in running collegiately. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I like Bluffton a lot. Like any school, it has its problems and frustrating quirks. And it is really unfortunate that we don't have an indoor facility, it makes training tough when it gets cold outside (although we just partnered with another university and so we may have access to their facilities next year). My experience was that the people at Bluffton are amazing and that made it worth it for me. Especially the coaches. I don't regret going here at all
