Could you make a video of what lifts you do as a 400m sprinter? And how you program the lifts into your weekly schedule? I’m a 400 guy just like you and I went from 55.97 last year to 52.80 this year. I feel like I can go definitely go sub 50 if I train max velocity since my 200 is only a 24.28. Your videos are literally gems, and keep up the good work!!!

Hey Simon, would you say combining lifting with a speed day (lift after the sped workout of course) would be okay so long as it’s not sending too many mixed signals to the body? Like 3 30s max velocity followed by 3 sets of 3 cleans, squats & RDLs?

I've been following your journey and really appreciate your insight and wisdom backed advice! I'm a master runner and even at my old age I still have track goals - mainly for health reason but it's also very motivating to run my age or better in the 400. I'm over 60 and I've been able to do that but of course I want a little more, I want to break 60s for the 400. My first race of the season I hit 62.08. I'll use your guidelines as they sound right! Thank You again for taking the time to post and good luck with your post college chapter. May your find a great and rewarding job. Stick with your training as it's so important for your health and wellbeing, high intensity training and of course vo2 max training, your body, mind and spirit will thank you and reward you with good health. Thank you, your videos are very much appreciated!

A super important aspect that you failed to mention if you're going to train in the very intense manner you recommend is extensive warm up. This is especially true if you are an older athlete and in colder weather. Going all out without really good warm up will undoubtedly eventually lead to a muscle strain or, worse yet, ligament or tendon tear.

@@amblincork It depends on my goal for the workout. For a few reps of speed endurance, like 400/200/100, yes. For anaerobic endurance, 4-5 minutes at about 800m pace and vO2max for 1500-3k racing, 2 minutes each for 8-10 reps at mile pace.

You mentioned that your right arm stays straight in one of your previous videos; Is your right side not as relaxed as your left side? Is your lower arm too close to your hip? Or maybe your shoulder is supinating instead of just going back? Try to consult your coach or experiment to see the problem.

Man I wish I knew what I did differently 🤦🏻‍♂️ sometimes it's totally normal and sometimes it's horrible I think it has to do with intensity level, if I'm trying to be very aggressive and powerful it tends to straighten out and if I am being more relaxed and smooth it tends to bend more I definitely could carry more tension in my right side. I could also have a bad arch on my left foot, which is pretty likely based on past injuries. I'll experiment heavily over the summer and get it fixed up one way or another

My PR is 53.15 in the 400m and 24.28 in the 200m, so I definitely am focusing on improving max velocity this off-season. What would a weekly schedule look like for me in your opinion? @SimonShawk5
@SimonShawk5 25 күн бұрын
Yes, absolutely. I'd suggest true speed work, so 20-30m build up into 10-20m fly all-out with 6-10 minutes rest as your main focus, as well as acceleration work 1-2 times per week. And then, maybe one 400m specific workout each week, like 200m repeats or a broken 400. There are a lot of ways to structure things but with your starting point I think really emphasizing that speed work would be huge
